Where should I expand the MLB?

Basically what the title asks. I'm planning on expanding the MLB by X number of teams and am just looking for suggestions as to how many and which cities.

You could go one in each league and expand to four divisions of four teams. Portland, Montreal, Brooklyn or Carolina (what's the big metro area there, Charlotte?).

Four divisions gives you an option to abolish interleague play and/or wildcards. Or you can have two wildcards and give the top two seeds byes in the playoffs a la NFL.

Portland, Charlotte, and Nashville come to mind. Montreal, Winnipeg, and Vancouver are all good possibilities if you want the MLB to expand into Canada a bit more.

I was thinking about maybe putting a team in Mexico too. Put the MLB on the entire continent.

I usually do a team in Charlotte (call them Carolina) and either Las Vegas or bring back the Expos in Montreal. I also have thought to put a team in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Maybe Buffalo? Yes I'm still bitter about Miami getting our team in the early 90s. They can't even fill a stadium.

Here's a copy of a post I made back for OOTP 13. Hope you find it helpful.

----------

Looking to expand your MLB league or shift some existing franchise to new locales? Want some ideas on potential candidate cities? Then read on.

Below is a list of U.S. metropolitan statistical areas and a 2010 market size rating. This value isn't just based on population; rather, it also factors in per capita income. It represents the total amount of income earned within that metropolitan area, and thus the potential pool of money a real-life baseball club would have to draw from. The ratings are scaled such that a value of 100 equals the smallest major league market in that year. The source data comes from the BEA estimates for 2010 and use the most recent metropolitan statistical area definitions.

Note that this market size rating does not take into account the nearness of other major league cities, the relative popularity of baseball within that area, or other similar factors. It's strictly a simple economic rating of the pool of money in that area from which a club could earn its revenue.

Here are the 25 metropolitan statistical areas that are home to the 29 U.S.-based major league clubs:

Code:
                                                     2010

So, i've decided on a 6 team expansion, one team in each division

AL East: San Juan, PR
AL Central: Mexico City, Mexico
AL West: Las Vegas, NV

NL East: Charlotte, NC
NL Central: Nashville, TN
NL West: Vancouver, BC

Now..... that being said I come to the issue of Tampa Bay and Oakland. Should one move? Both? Or should they get new stadiums in their current locals? If they should move any suggestions on location shift?

A note about San Juan, PR: while the metropolitan statistical area has a large population (about 2.5 million) its per capita income is rather low compared to U.S. areas. If I recall correctly, in the market rating system I am using, the San Juan area would have a rating of just 62.

Someone mentioned Buffalo earlier. It has slipped in position over the years. In 1969 it would have been rated a 94, the closest it got to the major league minimum of 100 over the 1969-2010 time period. By 2010 its rating was 65.
