Regular Season Opening Night

10/10

An overtime goal by PHI Sean Couturier was the difference maker as the PHI Flyers ruin the FLA Panthers opening night game by handing us a 3-4 loss in overtime @ the BB&T Center.
We do get a tough point however, as Roberto Luongo stopped 48 shots from the Flyers.
Down 1-3 going into the 3rd period, we get goals by Jagr (1) and Smith (1) to tie the game and force overtime.
We allowed 52 shots on goal.
Something has to be done about that.
Im pretty sure that Luongo was exhausted after this game.
But, he will have to step it up as we play these guys again in 2 days.
Next Game: FLA Panthers VS. PHI Flyers @ Wells-Fargo Arena.

The FLA Panthers play a much better defensive game against the PHI Flyers, but we come up short in a 1-0 loss @ Wells Fargo Center.
The only goal scored was by PHI Brayden Schenn in the 3rd period.
The Panthers were 0 for 5 on the power-play in this game as we couldn't find ways to score.
That was our downfall tonight, as we let a lot of penalty chances go by the boards.
Gonna have to make some changes in tactics.
Next Game: Tomorrow night: CAR Hurricanes @ PNC Arena.

The FLA Panthers get their first win of the season, as they take out the CAR Hurricanes 3-2 @ PNC Arena.
With :50 left in regulation, FLA Jaromir Jagr scores the go-ahead goal for the Panthers.
FLA Al Montoya gets his 1st win of the season, as he gave Luongo the night off.
Lots of penalties in this game.
A total of 15!
But we get our 1st win and our first 2 pts of the young year.
Next Game: 10/15/15 BB&T Center: BUF Sabres @ FLA Panthers

The FLA Panthers get their 2nd straight win, as they get past the BUF Sabres 3-2 @ BB&T Center.
FLA Luongo gets his 1st win of the year, and the Panthers get goals by Jagr, Bjugstad & McKenzie.
We got out to a 3-0 lead, but the Sabres got 2 goals back.
The good news was that they ran out of time.
Nice win at home.
Next Opponent: DAL Stars @ BB&T Center.

The FLA Panthers win their 3rd straight game, as they defeat the DAL Stars 5-4 in a shoot-out win.
FLA Jaromir Jagr was the 1st star, as he scored two goals tonight.
Second star was DAL Tyler Seguin who had 1 goal and 1 assist for his team.
FLA Jonathan Huberdeau got the 3rd star with two assists tonight.
The Panthers outscored the Stars in the shoot-out 3 to 2.
Very early in the season, but its nice to see the Panthers in 1st place in the Atlantic Division!
Next Game: PIT Penguins @ Consol Energy Center on October 20th.

I wasnt sure how we would come out against a good PIT Penguins team, but we sure showed them
The FLA Panthers get their 4th win on the young season with a 4-2 victory @ Consol Energy Center.
FLA Huberdeau was on fire as he scored a hat trick with an assist tonight.
He was the big star of the game.
FLA Luongo gets his 3rd win of the year as he is now started to settle down in the early part of the season.
The Panthers are off to a good start and we continue to hold 1st place in the Atlantic Division early.
Now lets see how we do against the reigning Stanley Cup Champions.
Next Game: CHI Blackhawks @ United Center on October 22.

This time, the FLA Panthers ran into the Stanley Cup Champion CHI Blackhawks.
The Blackhawks proved why they won it.
We had a 2-0 lead, but CHI Corey Crawford stoned us the rest of the way, and they scored 3 goals on FLA Luongo, to take a 3-2 win @ the United Center.
CHI Ryan Hartman gets the star of the game, as he had 1 goal and 1 assist.
The loss ends our 4 game winning streak, but i am proud of these guys for getting off to a good start.
We did put 33 shots on the board, so they are following my idea.
Shoot the puck!
Good things happen when you shoot the puck!
Next game: DAL Stars @ American Airlines Center on October 24.

We had a rematch against the DAL Stars tonight, and the last time we played them, we came away with two points.
This time, we came away with none, as we lost tonight 3-2 @ American Airlines Center.
FLA: Roberto Luongo takes his 2nd straight loss.
Nick Bjugstad gets two goals tonight and Jonathan Huberdeau picks up his 7th assist.
DAL: Tyler Seguin is the star of the game with one goal and one assist.
G Antti Niemi was injured in a collision with FLA Derek McKenzie and will be out for a while.
We played hard and lost hard, but now, we head back home for three games.
Next Game: October 27th--COL Avalanche @ BB&T Center.

After winning 3 games in a row, now we lose 3 in a row.
The FLA Panthers lose to the COL Avalanche 4-2 @ BB&T Center.
FLA: Another tough night for Luongo, who loses his 3rd straight game.
Reilly Smith does get two goals for the Cats tonight as he played very hard.
COL: Blake Comeau got the star of the game, as he got 1 goal and 1 assist.
Semyon Varlimov looked like Patrick Roy in the goal, as the Panthers had 26 shots on goal, but only netted 2.
We need to break out of this losing streak.
Next Game: BOS Bruins @ BB&T Center on 10/30.

Against the BOS Bruins, the FLA Panthers do get a point, but they lose the shoot-out.
The Bruins will take a 4-3 win over us @ the BB&T Center.
This loss is a little hard, because we had a 3-2 lead late in the 3rd period, but we couldn't hold the game.
FLA: Luongo gets the tie, but couldn't stop the shoot-out goals.
Nick Bjugstad picked up a goal and now has 5 on the young season.
The Panthers had 9 powerplays to BOS 1, and we could only get one goal on the night.
BOS: Louis Eriksson gets the first star tonight with 1 goal and 1 assist, including the late tying goal in the 3rd.
David Pastrnak also had a goal and an assist.
We should have had TWO points tonight instead of just one.
Next Game: (10/31) WAS Capitals @ BB&T Center.

Happy Halloween!!!
But the FLA Panthers were not scared of the WAS Capitals, as they demolished them 7-2 @ BB&T Center.
The 7 goals is the most goals scored for FLA in this young season.
FLA: Al Montoya gets his 2nd straight win in relief of Luongo, as he stopped 35 of 37 shots.
Nick Bjugstad is the 1st star tonight, as he got 2 goals and 2 assists, as the Panthers scored 4 out of 5 powerplay goals.
WAS: Alex Ovechkin did get a goal tonight in the loss for the Capitals.
The Panthers now embark on a three game road trip to the West Coast.

This Month in Hockey--NHL

As we enter the 2nd month of the Regular Season, the FLA Panthers find themselves in a fine position.
Tied for 3rd in the Atlantic Division, 4 points out of first, the Panthers got off to a great start, but then cooled down a little.
Bjugstad, Huberdeau and Jagr lead the team in goals, while Jokinen is in the top 3 for assists.
As for the rest of the NHL:
The DET Red Wings are in a familiar spot, 1st place in the Atlantic, with MTL, BOS and FLA behind them.
In the Metropolitan Division, damn i hate that name, the NY Rangers lead PIT and CLB early in the season.
SJ and VAN are tied for the Pacific Division.
The STL Blues not only lead the Central Division, but have the best record in the league early.

Player of the Month:
Sidney Crosby--PIT Penguins

Trash Can Game!
The FLA Panthers lose to the ANA Ducks, a team that has a worse record than we do, 6-1 @ Honda Center.
FLA: We stunk in this game!
ANA: Andrew Cogliano was the 1st star as he had 2 goals and 1 assist.
Next Game: SJ Sharks @ SAP Center (11/5)

Another tough loss as the FLA Panthers fall to the SJ Sharks 2-1 @ SAP Center.
FLA: Roberto Luongo stopped 39 of 41 shots.
SJ: Patrick Marleau was the star of the game as he had 1 goal and 1 assist tonight.
The Panthers, who got off to a good start, have now only accumulated 3 points out of the last 14 points of games available.
Not good.
