Are Storylines Era Dependent?

I'm running a historical fictional league (historical teams, fictional players) beginning with the National Association in 1872. I'm considering turning storylines on but don't want to see stories not relevant to the time period.

Has storylines been adjusted to reflect the appropriate era (s)?

Thanks!

Some storylines have years associated with them (ie, your team won't be shooting a commercial until after the 50s, I think), but I know we don't do a perfect job of it.

nope. i once had some kid tell walt dropo that his batting stance had changed over the years at a batting camp seminar. he then produced a device called an "eye phone" the size of a deck of playing cards and showed tiny moving pictures. we decided it was witchcraft and ran the demonchild out of town

tho as i think about it, this may have happened in ootp 15 and since been fixed.

The bottom line is the capability is there. It's possible some storylines were created without the appropriate "tag" to say "only use this after this year."

Nope. It is still there. I just saw it in a 1904 league.

Most storylines that are clearly tied to a particular era are tagged so that they won't be triggered until that era. So, as Matt mentioned, you shouldn't be getting storylines about players appearing in TV commercials until the advent of television in the 1950s, at the earliest. I think there has been a conscious effort recently to eliminate anachronistic storylines.

There are, however, a bunch of storylines that don't have era-tags but that are still not very appropriate for earlier eras. For instance, I was playing an 1871 league recently and a storyline appeared saying that a player had been injured while circuit training. Players undoubtedly got injured while training in the 1870s, but I'm pretty confident they weren't involved in circuit training. So those sorts of anachronisms still slip in once in a while. Whether you want to turn on storylines for historical leagues depends on your willingness to tolerate these slight errors.

Does OOTP still include time-traveling supermodels at no extra charge? Nothing like seeing Rogers Hornsby marry Kate Upton in 1927...

That storyline (like the one about the player crashing his sports car) has a "minimum year" tag, but the game sometimes ignores that tag. I'm not sure why. It's very frustrating.

We need to write era appropriate versions of those storylines really. Maybe he could marry Tallulah Bankhead instead!

I am not opposed to writing some pre-1960s storylines.

Hopefully only if your league is set for random debut?

Well considering the comments, I think I may leave storylines off with my historical league until the 1950's. I would get annoyed seeing my 19th century player getting injured while circuit training.

That's it...somebody set all the supermodels to random debut! That would explain it.
