Cleveland Guardians/Spiders/Naps/Cuyahogas
I love the new name Cleveland Guardians, but I hate their logos. The script that looks exactly like the old name. The cheesy baseball with wings that looks way too thin, and also looks like an attempt to recreate "Major League"s mohawk baseball poster.
I wanted to see the actual statues used more. I've been using sfgiants58's logos for a while (on the ootp board here, and additional versions here) which have the side view. I have made several front view Cleveland concepts. there may be even sillier ideas to come *March 2024: Cuyahogas added Cleveland Guardians:

Cleveland Spiders
These use the statues but add spiders perhaps Cy Young never left in 1899 and the team was so popular that the bridge featured spider elements when it was built in the Art Deco period

Cleveland Spiders (Louise Bourgeois Edition)
In these versions, the spider a representation of the colossal spider sculpture Maman by postmodern artist Louise Bourgeois!
Includes a version where the statue is holding a spider, in reverence. I should probably make one where the statue is looming over the city skyline, it really is very large

I kept the Guardian's colors for all of these but I am open to suggestions and alternates with new color schemes. Haven't learned color yet (have barely learned enough to make these things)

Cleveland '01s / Cleveland Spider Guardians
Finally, if you just can't decide, and want to have both spiders and guardians on your Cleveland logo
this is actually where I started. I was using sfgiant's logo for so long that I started imagining what it would look like with a spider dangling off the nose. The side view of the statue is from this soccer team.

These are really great! Nice work with the textures!
I can never make a team called the Spiders not look like a Halloween sign, so bravo on those!

I spent too much time looking at spider clip art before I remembered that giant statue
Looking at clip art of an even worse animal today... but there are several additional joke team names to complete

Cleveland Guardians again
So the eight statues are each holding a mode of road transportation circa 1930s, and some nostalgic options. There's a stagecoach, a "pioneer/Conestoga" wagon, an old school car, an oil truck, a dump truck etc.
Here's some front view shots I found. It would be easier if I could find zoomed in and flat ones to get better scans of the vehicles. Here's the dump truck and stagecoach in the style of a knuckler/tx ranger logo. Might make more

Cleveland Cuyahogas
This is my latest attempt at a fictionalized Cleveland team, and I'm pretty happy with it, the Cleveland Cuyahogas.
1. the team is named after the river that runs through Cleveland 2. the name works for the 19th through 21th centuries - currently we only have the Colorado Rockies but there were previous location-location names like the Pittsburgh Alleghenies or Brooklyn Atlantics 3. the name is believed to come from an indigenous language, creating a connection to the longtime name of the team 4. the Cleveland Guardians play right next to the river and are named for a bridge that crosses it 5. everybody knows that this river is famous for having caught fire! 6. Cleveland's navy and red work pretty well to represent a river that is on fire The clip art lift bridge is meant to represent the "Iron Curtain" bridge at the mouth of the river. I did one with off-yellow/white and one with orange.

Years ago, I lived on the southern end of the Cuyahoga River. Nice to see it burning brightly! The river is also the subject of a Randy Newman song. |

Really like the work you've done on the Cleveland logos.
No exactly a local, but my wife had a wonderful job at the magnificent Cleveland Clinic in 1989. Cleveland is a wonderful city with about 40 lovely townships surrounding it... we lived in Mayfield Village for one year and then headed back south. On opening day in 1989, we held hands, cuddled up and snuggled up real, real close (to keep from freezing) at the old Cleveland Municipal Stadium. It was freezing cold... temp in the 30's, windy and freezing cold... must have been a wind chill factor of 10 degrees or worse. We like to froze to death... but we stayed for the whole game. EC got homesick for The South and went back home in 1990. Yep, my lovely lady gave up a great job at twice the money, just for me. Ain't love wonderful.
