Johan Velez, CF

Velez retires at age 35 as the most complete and dominant position player ever to lace up the cleats. Unfortunately, he follows the trend of many of the greats of this game - came into the league as a dominant force, had a historic peak, and dropped off a cliff immediately in his 30s. From his age 21 to 31 seasons, he averaged 6.8 WAR. Then in his age 32-35 seasons, he averaged 0.65. Nevertheless, his Rookie of the Year, 6 MVP awards, gold glove, 11 all-star appearances, 7 silver sluggers, and two World Series speak for themselves. He was drafted 4th overall in 1921 out of Denmark High School in Wisconsin.

Career Stats: 9646 PA, 2359 H, 115 HR, 313 SB, .380 wOBA, 130 wRC+, 124.1 ZR, 77.1 WAR, 64.0 JAWS

Kerry Law, 3B

Law was a consistent 3B for the Blue Jays and Dodgers for 15 seasons, averaging 3-5 WAR for a decade and a half. He never really did pick up 3B defensively and could have possibly been better as a DH. He was drafted 3rd overall out of Buford High School in 1916. Law went to three all-star games, won four silver sluggers, and was on two World Series championship teams.

Career Stats: 8852 PA, 2215 H, 110 HR, .369 wOBA, 123 wRC+, -99.6 ZR, 39.3 WAR, 33.3 JAWS

Ryder Froehling, RF

Froehling was also selected 4th overall but in 1914 and out of Volcano Vista High School in New Mexico. He retires with the 12th most hits in MLB history and 8th most HR. His defense was quite poor for his entire career and he was never selected for any major awards.

Career Stats: 9535 PA, 2495 H, 169 HR, .345 wOBA, 109 wRC+, -184.3 ZR, 11.8 WAR, 11.8 JAWS

1939 College Playoffs

After losing in the championship game last year, the Texas Tech Red Raiders win their second championship this year. Annual punching bag Villanova had a rare good playoff run.
