Players signing ridiculous contract once the season has started

Hey guys,

One thing I've noticed after 3 or 4 seasons is that free agents signs for ridiculously high amount once the season has started.

For exemple player A wanted a 5 years deal at around 8M during free agency.. He'd go unsigned for the whole off season but once the regular season starts he'll sign a 8 year deal worth like 30M per season ? Doesn't make too much sense to me. I've seen it happened at least to 3 or 4 players every season.

Has that happened to anyone else ?

Thank you.

Can you post this player who asked for 5 years @ $8 million, then signed for 8 years @ $30 million?

The player I'm talking about is George Springer. He was coming off a 92 Wrc+ season so it's not like he had a huge year either. His 8M per season demand made much more sense..

Now this one is the worst I've experienced but every years there's generally 3 or 4 relievers who make it through the off season without signing a contract. By the end of the free agency they are willing to sign for relatively cheap ( which make sense since the season is about to start ), but once it's April they'll sign a contract for like 12M. Happened to Betances this year. I don't remember exactly how much he was asking for during free agency but it was around 4M if I remember correctly. On April 1st he ended up signing a one year deal for 12M.

Thank you.

I don't find anything wrong with a one-year deal for $12 million. There is money lying around and the AI should deploy it significantly. Unspent money does not carry over.

Yeah like I said the 12M contracts are not that bad it's just unrealistic in the sense that they could have signed the player for half the price during the off season period.

I think what you are seeing is sometimes the demands drop off on the main screen and when you negotiate it is actually in the middle of an ongoing bidding war.
