"Garbage Time"

It'd be neat to have a team strategy section in which you could tell the AI when the game is out of hand (like +7 runs in either direction) to sit or use certain players. It'd be nice to have an additional safeguard for injury-prone guys or just getting bench players more playing time.

It's a great idea in principle but in practical terms an AL team generally carries 5 SP 8 RP (maybe 7). So 25-13=12 position players and 12-9=3 bench players maybe 4 max of which one is the backup catcher that you don't use too early. So that leaves 2 or 3 bench players that if you use them up may leave you with no PH or PR during or after that 8 run 7th inning.

NL teams have 4 bench players rarely 5. Again you keep the backup C on the bench and at least one other to PH for a pitcher late during a comeback.

Bench players are most often used to give a regular player a day off or as part of a platoon. If they are in a platoon they should get plenty of PT

Then how about a "protect this guy from injuries" checkbox or something so that your stars don't get hurt in blow-outs? It's probably more relevant for historical games in which the balance of your team is more like 10 pitchers and 15 hitters.

that doesn't cover needlessly playing in a route. this is about being proactive, not reactive. avoiding potential bad thigns when % dictate it is a needless risk. i like to call it smarter player management. ties in with pitch counts and avoiding pitchign fatigued etc.

this is a great idea, and the ai already does this to some extent - routs increase likelihood of subs, if not mistaken? at the very least it could be pasted into poriton of logic that deals with 7+ runs that already exists (or whatever team strat page has for the largest run differential)

you'd just need another "depth chart" like for PR or PH or defensive sub. does not neccesailry need to be depth charts nor an actual list, maybe in player strategies or team strategies etc.

checkbox for:
players to rest in routs
players to use in routs

simple inserts in already existing logic with these qualifications/requirments for that logic to be called on. existing fucntions for sub/removal etc... very little to implement such a thing.

individual strategy screen.. much more barren. and this is per player stuff, not team stuff.

i mentioned the overall strat to show it's already "in the game" as far as the heavy lifting.. it's an easy augment to the existing logic for routs, like you see on the ocerall strat screen for 7+ (4+?) runs at various innings or w/e the value is.

if it's only 4+, might need a little exra "else"-oversimplifying of course. a route can be measured by runs/outs left to play.. and when above a particular ratio, qualifies as a rout. can pick those threshold baed on % chance of comign back etc etc.
