Major League Legends project

I have begun work on a new project of the greatest players from each franchise. There is a QS like this available in OOTP but there are some significant issues with it, such as no Ernie Banks on the Cubs, and the players are not translated to the same environment.

The project I am working on uses the Davenport Translations so that players from different eras are translated into a standard modern league environment. I am basing batters on their best 5000 AB in their career and pitchers on their best 5000 BF. Teams will generally have 18 position players and 12 pitchers on their roster. Every rating has to be custom entered into the game editor so this project will take quite a while to complete. I have currently finished 4 teams. In addition to the 30 MLB franchises, there will also be a Negro League team and a Pioneers team of significant players from the 1800's. Cap Anson for instance will be on the Pioneers instead of the Cubs since his finished playing before 1901.

Here are the rosters for the teams I have finished:

K. Kelly
R. Connor
D. Brouthers
B. Ewing
B. McPhee

It takes quite a while to create the ratings for each player. The translates statistics will make it possible to play these teams against each other in any season. The statistics were translated into a standard environment of something like 1 HR/9ip, 9 H/9ip, 3 BB/9 ip, 6 K, 9ip. This is similar to 1986 or 1993. However, with OOTP you should be able to then take these teams and put them into any season in history because the LTM's will balance the statistics to any season you want. This provides many opportunities for playing this multiple times as the best teams in the league playing in a 1993 environment won't necessarily be the best if you put them in 1921.

This file, if I finish it, is only designed for playing a single season. It might be neat for an online league. There are 32 teams of 30 players planned for this, but that will still provide enough players if you want to add a few teams and hold an inaugural draft. There are enough players for 36 teams with 26 players per team including 10-11 pitchers (so you can have 4 SP's and 6 RP's per team, or even 40 teams with 24 players per team including 9-10 pitchers (so you can even take this into an earlier era and have 4 SP's and 5 RP's per team).

Man that is one SCARY team!!! King Kelly is my favorite player of the 19th century. and should be fun to manage. This team COULD steamroll everyone else.

Kudos on undertaking such a demanding project. I am mystified as to why Mr. Cub is NOT on the Franchise Greats. I noticed some other glaring omissions in that QS and quickly abandoned it. Come on Markus, Lukas, and company, please do your research - or hire me.

I had on my team at one time were Deacon White, Ed Delahnaty, George Davis, and Clarkson.

Beatles, I agree about the QS that comes with the game has significant problems with the roster selections. Another issue is that the players were not translated to the same environment. Your input is of course welcome with regards to the rosters. I may miss someone, but I'm being as thorough as possible. I am limiting teams to 30 players because if you go more than that you will have players who will never be used. I'm basically taking the top 2 players at each position for a franchise for these rosters. Players can only be featured on one team. Every player in the Hall of Fame should be on some team. There are also some players on teams that you might not expect. Bobby Bonds is on the Angels because he is not gonna make it onto the Giants roster and he is a good enough player that he should be on some team.

One of the reasons I am posting the rosters is for anyone to comment on the selections. I'm open to debate. I'm trying to get some RP's on these teams so that they aren't filled with SP's. For RP's I'm tending to take a team's top 2 pitchers in saves and then I look at Games Pitched as well as a couple other categories because the RP's won't generally appear in the top 12 in pitching WAR for a team.

As for the 1800's team, I am going to use their career translated stats to try to nerf them a bit because otherwise they will steamroll and I don't want that to happen. If they are still too strong another option is to move them into the strongest division for competitive balance in the game.

Wow, this looks amazing. Especially since it has a Negro League team. Is it still being worked on?
