if the wanderers are gonna merge with the habs, have the Americans go to Philly. with the added bonus that they are the reigning champions, so it will bring in even more people to the philly arena. (I don't know if it's gonna be the spectrum or another arena.)

1936-1937 Season Review

The Americans and St. Louis won their divisions but third place Pittsburgh made it to the final beating the Americans. Pittsburgh won it's first cup in it's third year back in the league.

New names led the league in goals (Thielen - Det), assists (Kitchener - Rangers (ha-ha)), and points (Mangone - Americans).

Scholz traded to the Amerks before the end of the season crossed the 1,000 point barrier with his new team. The first player ever to do so.

Pittsburgh continue to lead the league in attendance with Toronto and the Wanderers at the bottom.

Bootleg Bill couldn't pay off his debts and repurchases the Amerks. No bidders have yet come forward. As a league we can't fold a team that has played in the last two finals winning one. The NHL will continue to operate them for now.

No word out of Montreal. The owners primary team the Wanderers is last in attendance. The Canadiens have the history. Will they try and flip the better team and keep their original team? We'll have to watch and wait and decide if we need to intervene.

1937-1938 Season Review

The Rangers and Chicago won their divisions but Detroit and Boston made the final with Boston claiming their third cup!

R. Jones of Chicago led in goals and points and Moell Lindgren of the Rangers led in assists.

Chicago’s Todd O’Branagan won his 5th defenceman of the year award at 28 years old scoring 56 points (a record for D-men) and finishing at +20 in 48 games.

Defenceman Gabriel Bourdages of Boston wins rookie of the year tying the rookie points record at 48.

Montreal ownership has announced their intention to merge the 2 Montreal teams under the Wanderes name, as that was their original team and suspending the Canadiens franchise. Stafford Smythe of Toronto is strongly urging the League to step in a preserve the Canadiens name instead due to their Stanley Cup history. Which side do we back? Should we be active in seeking buyers for whichever franchise becomes dormant? Cleveland interests were seeking to buy the Canadiens previously.

The Amerks issues continue on. We’re going to keep operating them in New York for now. We have Montreal to deal with. Can you imagine operating with only 8 teams? Or 6?

James E. Norris Red wings Owner now owns Chicago Stadium as of last year. We’re also pretty sure he’s been loaning the Bruins Owners money. Does he think NHL stands for Norris House League?

The International-American Hockey League has begun as a merger between the old IHL and the Canadian-American Hockey League.

Tropical Hockey League? Rumour has it scouts are making the rounds in Manitoba and NW Ontario recruiting for a semi-pro league based out of Miami? Can you imagine, hockey in Miami?

1938-1939 Season Review

Decisions were made and seasons were played before all the advice was in.

Ultimately Stafford Smythe of Toronto was instrumental in saving the Canadiens (oh how Montreal fans must hate this piece of history). He and other advisers persuaded us that the Habs Stanley Cup history meant they must be preserved. The Wanderers are technically a suspended franchise.

With 9 teams left we went back to one division. The Americans led the way and won their second Cup! On a side note the Rangers only have won.

The Amerks have won two out of the last 4 cups so we can't suspend them even though no buyer has come forward.

Wylie (Pittsburgh) led in goals, Saville (Amerks) led in points and Boston’s Duncan O’FIenella led in points. Saville also won MVP and Defenceman of the year with a 57 point season.

The Amerks Christensen led in most major goalie categories and won goalie of the year.

1939-1940 Season in Review

Pittsburgh finishes first overall but in an all New York final the Rangers top the Amerks leaving both New York teams with 2 cups each.

The depression has ended but World War II has started, at least for Canada. Still attendance remains low across the league and several league owners are having capitalization problems. The Canadiens were sold again too the Canadian Arena Company. The NHL still owns the Americans with no buyers coming forward for a top franchise. Now there are rumours that MSG corp the owners of the Rangers are in financial trouble. Out in St. Louis travel costs and lack of money are impacting the Eagles ownership.

Detroit's Sivak led in goals and points while Hutton of the Amerks led in assists.

1940-1941 Season in Review

The Rangers and Amerks finished #1 and #2 in the Standings but it was Montreal defeating Pittsburgh in the Stanley Cup final.

Boston's Lou Ray led the league in goals and points with Pittsburgh D-man Richard Sheppard leading in assists. Sheppard also won his 2nd consecutive defenceman of the year.

William Scholz retired at the end of last season as the NHL all time leader in points (1,119) and assists (810).

In New York news James E. Norris has purchased a minority interest in Madison Square Garden (but he holds the largest interest) while we've received a bid for the Americans franchise as the same time. It looks like Norris is trying to take control of the New York market - all withing league rules since he isn't the bidder on the Americans. He may push the Rangers out of MSG.

St. Louis continues to suffer under the cost of travel, poorly financed ownership and the general economics of the time.

1941-1942 Season Review

The US has now entered WWII after Pearl Harbor. Greater strain is now being placed on franchises as owners finances are being tested and more and more fans and players are headed overseas to fight. The Rangers, Montreal, Pittsburgh and St. Louis have suggested suspending the NHL until the war is done due to financial and player recruitment issues.

We wonder if the league may have to contract to 8 or even 6 teams? We prefer an even number.

The New York situation is at a crossroads. MSG is controlled by Norris who appears to be giving the new Americans owners preferential treatment.

St. Louis is still in trouble despite ok attendance and Pittsburgh has dropped near the bottom of the league

The Americans finished first overall and won their third cup.

The Americans Mangone led in assists and points while Czarnoczan of Toronto lead in goals.

Americans d-man Harry White set a new +/- record at +55 and won defencemen of the year.

Sell the Americans franchise. The team then moves to Washington DC.

The league will contract 6 teams: San Fransisco, Los Angeles, Minnesota, Cleveland, Seattle, and Vancouver.

The Pittsburgh Yellow Jackets still exist. St Louis Eagles renamed the Blues.

1942-1943 Season in review
The New York Rangers have suspended operations after Norris took over Madison Square Garden and favoured the Americans.

The Americans topped the standings but Montreal beat Toronto in the Cup final.

Shutron (STL) led in goals, Lubkey (PIT) led in assists and Gal (PIT) led in points.

St. Louis and Pittsburgh continue to be troublespots as their owners are under-capitalized. We’re down to 8 teams do we let these two franchises suspend operations dropping the league to 6 teams?

The St. Louis Eagles cease operations.

A new team in Philidelphia takes its place.

Pittsburgh continues operations as the Pittsburgh Yellow Jackets, but the former owner sells the team to a Pittsburgh-based owner.

The New York Americans become the Rangers.

St. Louis continues, Pittsburgh moves to Philly.

I like that idea about the Amerks becoming the Rangers.

1943-1944 Season Review

Chicago who have never won a Cup finished first overall.

The Americans win their 4th Cup in the last 9 years.

Jalo of Chicago leads the league in goals and points while D-man Dedov of St. Louis leads in assists.

Dedov wins defenceman of the year.

Chicago's Buicko wins goalie of the year.

St. Louis's turmoils may be over as it is rumoured a certain beverage company, attracted by the team logo, may make an offer on the team.

Still no interest in Pittsburgh, next year may be their last year unless a miracle happens.

1944-1945 Season Review

The War is over in Europe, hopefully the Pacific war will end soon!

Chicago finished first overall again and finally won their first Cup!

Jalo again led in goals and points and Pittsburgh's Lubkey led in assists.

Buicko won his 2nd straight goalie of the year.

American's Heath Mangone won his 4th straight MVP.

A certain beverage company did take over the St. Louis Eagles.

A certain condiment company appears interested in Pittsburgh.

It appears James E Norris is seeking control of the NHL. A front man (Tobin) just purchased the Blackhawks, Norris owns Detroit outright, controls Madison Square Gardens and the Americans indirectly and the Boston franchise still owes him money. The Canadian teams are solid, St. Louis is now out of his reach and we need to get Pittsburgh solid ownership to split the NHL 50/50. Imagine if we had only 6 teams? Norris would control the whole league.

After solidifying Pittsburgh we need to loosen Norris's hold on the league.

Norris sells MSG and the Americans. Boston Bruins fold, replaced by another Boston team.
Something I don’t get: If how the season went does not reflect the what we recommened for you to change the league, then where do you get these opinions from?

Some recommendations from the posters here are followed - for example preserving Pittsburgh and possibly selling to a local buyer (Heinz) was at your (nomalee.exe) suggestion. I was prepared to reduce the league back down to 6 teams but others seemed to want a bigger league.

Some are from history (Norris effectively controlling the league at this point) and some are from my own ideas (Norris stepping in to preserve the Americans instead of the Rangers - simply because the Americans had more cups at that point).
