Found something else interesting while I was digging through the MiLBMaster.csv (yeah, I finally figured it out -- I am slow at times). The player in that file with the ID brown-003ray (which you mention above is NOT the HoF'er but some other fellow) is listed with a birthplace of Alger, Ohio -- which just happens to be the birthplace of HoF'er Ray Brown! Coincidence, or error?

I have no idea.

One is black, one is white, one is 9 yrs older than the other. That is what I know. That is all I know. I see nothing. I hear nothing.

Ray Brown is not a particularly unusual name.

My guess is that the birthplace got added to the wrong record.

On another note, I can't seem to import any seasons for Spottswood Poles using either the ID on the NeLB csv (Poles049Spo - tried it with and without the capital letters) or his bb-ref ID (poles-000spo). I even tried his Seamheads ID (poles01spo) to no avail.

Tried again and still can't get him to import. I even tried to do an import list of all 15 of those seasons and came back with bupkis. Oddly, the game told me the import list succeeded even though it didn't . Will report that on the main bug board.

Are you importing from the minor league database? That is where he is at.

Yes, the box to include the minor league database is checked.

Still cannot figure this one out. I've been importing many players from the database, both minor leaguers and Negro leaguers (most recently Walter Ball), and no other player has given me this problem. I guess I'll wait and see if the next release fixes this.

Since there was a new release today, I tried again to import Spottswood Poles using ID Poles049Spo. I tried every way I could think of -- with and without the MiLB flag checked, real stats, neutralized stats...I even tried importing directly from the MiLB database. None of them worked. This is literally the only player that I can't get to import, and I'm out of ideas.

I just gave Mr. Poles a new ID and the game still will not import him.

Markus already has a bug report on this as it effects Rube Foster and many others as well.

There's a Robert "Roy" Poindexter and a Roy Poindexter on the 1927 Black Barons that are both pitchers with exactly the same stats, though they have completely different birthdates.

Not sure if this means anything, but I was able to import him from your v17 database using the ID polessp00.

been some issues with importing players with 049 in their ID - at least in the last few builds. it did work much earlier. This has been reported, but thus far, no resolution. The issue may be larger - dealing with certain eras and not just specific IDs ... work in progress.

In R, I made a list of possible duplicated Negro League players, with entries in the minor league database, where if you took the firstname-lastname it would match up with a nickname-lastname of another player, having the same debut and final year.

Some cases are judgement calls. For example, there is a Luis Arango (nickname Pedro) and a Pedro Arango who both played for 14 years on the same teams, but had wildly different heights and weights and different stats. I found Luis Arango on the b-r minor league site, Pedro Arango on the seamheads site. Maybe they were brothers who just followed each other around? Others, like a separate Bert "Nate" Hunter and a Nate Hunter, are obvious duplicates as they had identical stats.

If you have any questions let me know.

Luis Arango (Pedro) 1925-1939
Paul Arnold (Sonny) 1926-1936
Junius Bibbs (Rainey) 1933-1944
Ralph Cleage (Pete) 1924-1924
Alfred Cooper (Army) 1928-1932
Lafayette Dumas (Jim) 1940-1940
Arthur Henderson (Rats) 1923-1931
Mike Herrera (Paito) 1911-1928
Bert Hunter (Nate) 1931-1936
Norman Jackson (Jelly) 1934-1945
Stuart Jones (Slim) 1932-1938
Horacio Martinez (Rabbit) 1935-1947
Bob Miller (Ruby) 1923-1928
John Mungin (Bill) 1925-1927
Shin Norman (Billy) 1908-1911
Grady Orange (Dip) 1925-1931
Raymond Owens (Smoky) 1939-1942
Will Owens (Bill) 1924-1933
Robert Poindexter (Roy) 1924-1929 (already fixed)
Herman Roth (Bobby) 1923-1925
Juan Vargas (Tetelo) 1927-1944
Mathis Williams (Matt) 1923-1923
Percy Wilson (Pete) 1923-1924
Burnis Wright (Wild Bill) 1932-1945

I'd need to know the maybes from the for sures and the list as a spreadsheet would be a big help.

Over in the historical bug forum I am asked to undo combining Sam and Stan Gray who I was asked to combine about a year ago. It is a lot harder to undo a combination than to do one. Don't want to get this wrong 24 times at once.

Is there any way to get the real-life stats of Negro League players without starting a league? Even if I start a league with history, I only get the stats for players on Negro League rosters during that season.

No. You will get to see their whole careers on the real stats tab in the player editor.
