Week 11

Current Week: 3-3 (40-23 - GB, 1st (+11))
Next Week: 2 @ Ocean City Tourists, 3 vs Baltimore Barons
Power Ranking: 2 (-1)
Fan Interest: 71
Owners Mood: Ecstatic

Game 58
Norfolk 9, Lewes 6
Jose Matos (ND) didn't make it out of the first inning, giving up 5 runs on 5 hits. Jamie King came out of hte bullpen and shut down the Braves over 4.1 innings, allowing just 2 hits. Elmer Hawkins (1-1) took home the win with 2/3 of an inning in relief and Dalton Whitaker got the save (17). Julio Romero and Jesus Rivera each had 3 hits to pace the offense. Jesus Rivera went 3-5 with 4 RBI. Kent Davis went 2-5 with a triple and a HR (1), with 3 RBI's.

Game 59
Norfolk 1, Lewes 6
Karl Armstrong (7-3) took the loss as the offense went quiet. Armstrong went 6.2 innings allowing 7 hits and 6 runs. The only life in the offense was a solo-shot (12) by Roberto Perez. The Cavaliers only managed 4 hits.

Draft News: Lowell Haas and us agreed to terms and he will be joining our A team in Jacksonville.

Game 60
Norfolk 3, Chesapeake 14
Cooper Mananghaya (1-4) struggled through 5.2 innings, allowing 7 runs on 6 hits and 4 walks, before being removed with an injury. Essie Bookelman and Elmer Hawkins didn't fair much better giving up a combined 7 runs in 1.1 innings. The offense had 7 hits, all from different players. Kent Davis, Jose Rodriquez and Jacob Chaney had doubles.

Trades: The Cavaliers sent Pat Hall to the Washington Senators for starting pitcher Javier Uberuaga... The Cavaliers also sent Ron Alder to the Ellicot City Express for 2B/CF Derek Cambpell... The only way both trades would of been made if the GM's for the other team accepted the deals.

Game 61
Norfolk 4, Chesapeake 2
Jamie Davis (2-0) working as an emergency starter, threw 7 innings (73 pitches) giving up 4 hits and 1 run to take home the win. Dalton Whitaker threw the 9th for the save (18). Kent Davis and Mauro Candelaria lead the way. Davis went 3-5 and Candelaria went 4-5 with 3 RBI, including a HR (5). Pablo Fretias hit a solo-HR (13) and Gilberto Ramos added 2-hits.

Injury News: Cooper Managhaya had been diagnosed with a oblique strain and will be sidelined for 11 days. He has been played on the DL and new acquisition Javier Uberuaga will join the rotation.

Game 62
Norfolk 5, Chesapeake 3
Don Sweetapple (7-4) went 7.1 innings, allowing 10 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 11. Dalton Whitaker pitched the 9th for the save (19). Jose Escamilla led the team with 2 hits and Roberto Perez lead the team with 2-RBI, including a 2-run shot in the 1st (13). The victory was over ex-Cavaliers Tsuneo Sato.

Transactions: Derek Campbell was diagnosed with a strained hamstring and will be out 3-4 weeks. Campbell was injured during his last game with the Express yet wasn't put on the DL, so the trade went through. It could of been worse. I totally missed the injury, since "injured players can't be traded". Luckily for me he will only be out one month... In the mean time Mason Foster will be brought up to play the role of the utility man, and Jesus Rivera will get the starts at 2B.

Game 63
Norfolk 1, Chesapeake 6
Carlos Mateo (6-3) threw 6.2 innings, allowing 5 runs on 6 hits, to end an up and down week for the Cavlaiers. As the offense couldn't get anything going off of the Blue Crabs ace. Four hits by four different players. Kent Davis had the only extra-base hit, a double, driving in the lone Cavalier run.

Players of the Week:
Delaware: Pete MacCammon, Wilmington Iron Pigs, 12-27 5 HR's 12 RBI
MarVa: Bill Little, Washington Senators, 12-23, 2 HR's 5 RBI

Power Rankings:
1) Chesapeake Blue Crabs (121.3)
2) Norfolk Cavaliers (117.3)
3) Annapolis Admirals (109.3)
4) Wilmington Iron Pigs (108.7)
5) New Castle Colonials (102.1)

Notable Feats:
none

Notable Injuries:
Eric Burt, Milton Brewers, middle reliever tore his rotator cuff, and will be out for 13 months.

GM Thoughts/Notes: An up and down week for sure. The bullpen is showing their holes, the starters are continuing the throw the ball well, and our offense is slowing down. Last season our offense went to sleep for 2 months and it cost us a trip to the playoffs. Hopefully thats not going to happen again this year... We made some trades to help solidify our staff for the now and the future, as well as giving us a better defense. Ron Alder was the odd man out this season. We have speed up and down the lineup, so his speed wasn't needed as much as last year. Plus his .200 average and -3 ZR at first wasn't giving us what we needed. He should of been in the outfield, but we didn't have a place for him... I am looking forward to this week and I am looking forward to getting Campbell back from the DL. Just need to hang on a little longer and we will be back to full strength...

Game 64
Norfolk 9, Ocean City 1
Jose Matos (6-5) followed up a rough start with a solid one, going 7 innings, allowing 6 hits and 1 run, while striking out 6. The offense exploded for 17 hits. Jacob Chaney and Mauro Candelaria each had 3, Chaney hit a solo-HR (5). Kent Davis, Roberto Perez, Jose Rodriquez, Jesus Rivera and Gilberto Ramos each added 2-hits, wiht Ramos (3) and Rodriquez (11) adding HR's. Rodriquez also drove in 3-runs.

Game 65
Norfolk 7, Ocean City 5
Karl Armstrong (8-3) went 8 innings, allowing 6 hits and 5 runs, while striking out 10. Dalton Whitaker threw the 9th for the save (20). Kent Davis, continues hitting the ball all over the place, going 3-5. Roberto Perez and Mauro Candelaria each added 2 hits. Candelaria was HBP 2x as well. Jacob Chaney added 2-RBI.

Game 66
Baltimore 3, Norfolk 1
Javier Uberuaga (6-5) took the tough luck loss in his first start with the Cavaliers. Javier went 9 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits, striking out 6. The offense had 4 hits, 2 by Kent Davis, who scored the lone run.

Game 67
Baltimore 0, Norfolk 1 (12 Innings)
Don Sweetapple (ND) pitched a game to be remembered, going 10.1 innings of shutout ball, throwing 127 pitches, allowing just 5 htis and striking out 13. Dalton Whitaker pitched the final 1.2 for the win (5-1). The offense had 12 singles, with Roberto Perez knocking in the winning run in the 12th with his 4th hit. Pablo Freitas added 3 hits and Kent Davis added 2.

Records: Don Sweetapple set a Maryland Confernece record with 13 strikeouts in an extra-inning game.

Game 68
Baltimore 5, Norfolk 8
Carlos Mateo (7-3) went 7.1 innings allowing 3 runs (1 ER) on 4 hits. Dalton Whitaker got the final 2 outs for the save (21). The offense made the most of their 11 hits, with Kent Davis, Roberto Perez, Mauro Candelaria and Jose Escamilla each getting 2. Escamilla and Perez each added 2-RBI. Kent Davis stole his 27th base and Roberto Perez stole 2, giving him 27 on the season as well.

Players of the Week:
Delaware: Dax Peterson, Milford Clippers, 4-7, 2 HR, 6 RBI
MarVa: Coy Browning, Richmond Cardinals, 10-21, 1 HR, 2 RBI

Power Rankings:
1) Norfolk Cavaliers (120.5)
2) Chesapeake Blue Crabs (116.8)
3) Annapolis Admirals (113.2)
4) Lewes Braves (106.2)
5) Ocean City Tourists (99.6)

Notable Feats:
none

Notable Injuries:
Sergio Melendez the Wilmington Iron Pigs starting Catcher is out 10 months with a torn posterior cruciate ligament.
Stan Miller the Georgetown Sixteens starting CF will miss 3-4 weeks with a sprained ankle.

GM Thoughts/Notes: This was a great week for this team. The offense lost its power for a couple of game, but still did enough to get the win. Javier pitched well in his first start, which is a nice sign and Gilberto Ramos hit the ball pretty well this week, playing for the injured Derek Campbell... Sweetapple threw 10+ innings in a great pitching game, and Dalton Whitaker has made us forget Carlos Rodriquez. That was one deal I wasn't sure if it was going to bite us, but Whitaker has taken over admirably... Kent Davis continues to hit the ball and steal bases. Him and Roberto Perez make a formidable 1-2 punch... The first 3 months of the season are just about over, and the team has a nice lead. I think we will only get better when we get some of our guys back from the DL. We are going for the title, hopefully we can hold off Washington and Richmond...

June 2016 Month in Review

Players of the Month:
Delaware Conference:

Batter of the Month: Peter Peters, New Castle Colonials
DDIV Announces Best Batter Award: When Peter Peters stepped up to the plate in June, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Delaware Conference Batter of the Month award. The young New Castle right fielder posted a .412 batting average with 11 home runs, 21 RBIs and scored 22 runs. Peters also worked pitchers for 24 walks to post a .545 on-base percentage. For the year Peters is batting .355 with 30 home runs, 70 RBIs and 70 runs scored.

Peter has claimed every BOM this year so far, and at his current pace will be fighting for the leagues first triple crown and his second MVP award.

Pitcher of the Month: Rod Cantrell, New Castle Colonials
New Castle Starter Wins June's Pitcher Award: Veteran Rod Cantrell put together quite a successful stretch in June for the New Castle Colonials, earning himself the Delaware Conference Pitcher of the Month award. Cantrell racked up a 5-1 record in 6 starts, posting a 3.22 ERA over 44.2 innings and striking out 32. This year Cantrell has fanned 76 in 110 innings and collected a 10-4 record with a 4.34 ERA.

Rookie of the Month: Pedro Galvan, Dover Generals
Delaware Conference Names Rookie of Month: Pedro Galván earned June's Rookie of the Month honors in the Delaware Conference for last month's performance. The boyish Dover shortstop might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level. Galván hit .314 with 1 home run, 3 RBIs and 8 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award. In the current season, Galván has put up a .314 batting average with 16 hits, 1 home run, 3 runs batted in and scored 8 runs.

MarVa Conference:

Batter of the Month: Franciso Reyes, Ocean City Tourists
MVDIV Honors Reyes, #1 Batter in June: Francisco Reyes of the Ocean City Tourists swung a mean bat for the last 30 days and was acclaimed the MarVa Conference Batter of the Month for June. The 26-year-old first baseman slapped out a .337 batting average, 12 home runs, 26 RBIs, 26 runs scored and a .421 on-base percentage. Thus far this season Reyes has hit .327 with 24 home runs, 62 RBIs and scored 60 times.

Pitcher of the Month: Miguel Contreras, Ocean City Tourists
Ocean City Starter Selected Best Pitcher: No doubt about it!
Ocean City starter Miguel Contreras earned his MarVa Conference Pitcher of the Month award. He made that very clear as he mowed his way through league hitters in June. During the month Contreras chalked up a 4-1 record with a 2.23 ERA. The Tourists star made 6 starts and surrendered 32 hits in 44.1 innings. He struck out 43 and walked 5. This year Contreras has gone 9-2 with an ERA of 2.45 and has 115 strikeouts in 114 innings.

Rookie of the Month: Norbert Meyer, Baltimore Barons
MVDIV Selects Rookie Star of the Month: Norbert Meyer is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest MarVa Conference Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers. In June the Baltimore hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .287 average with 25 hits, 6 home runs and 13 RBIs. This year Meyer has hit 7 home runs and posted a .262 batting average.

Norbet knocked teammate Marcos Gomez from the ROM pedestal. Gomez had won the award the first two months.

Standings as for July 1st 2016

Not much change with the Southern Division as the Braves couldn't put any distance bewtween them and the Sixteens. The Sixteens aren't done yet... The Iron Pigs warmed up in June and pulled out ahead. The Colonials aren't going to pack it in yet, and based on the BOM and POM they are starting to warm up as well. They will need Cantrell to be on the top of his game the rest of the way if they want to catch the Iron Pigs... Chesapeake and Annapolis look to be in a nice battle this season. The Admirals are my favorite to win this division, they just have a stacked team. Sad to see the Tourists fade, they have always been one of my favorite teams. But some financial issues lead to some trades and now they just don't have the offense... The Cavaliers pulled ahead 5 more games. They are hoping to stay hot, last season after the all-star break they slowly fell apart. We will see what happens this season.

Norfolk Recap

Our pitching isn't as strong as it has been in the past, but I think that will change with the trades we made this past month. Just odd seeing our staff not in the top 2 in Runs Against and ERA's. We are creeping up the ladder and with Matos and Uberuaga in the rotation now I figure by August we will be back to where we belong... We added another arm to our pen, and I think spreading out the workload seems to be helping out. I'd still like to see someone in the pen step it out. If it wasn't for Whitaker who konws where they will be. I jsut want to see a sub 4 ERA by next month... Four guys in the starting lineup hitting above .300?? We havne't had a .300 hitter for a full season, and right it looks like we will have at least 2. Rodriquez and Freitas would be big surprises if they end up north of .300. Mauro Candelaria has been raking over the past month, getting his average to the mid .250's. I like to see that... I am looking forward to July and hopefully we can pull away from our competition. The bullpen is pitching better, the team is hitting, we will get Derek Campbell back. Should be a solid month. Let just hope we can keep it up.

Week 13

Current Week: 3-3 (47-27 - GB, 1st (+12))
Next Week: 2 vs Newark Millers, 4 @ Washington Senators
Power Ranking: 1
Fan Interest: 71
Owners Mood: Ecstatic

Game 69
Norfolk 12, Georgetown 5
Jose Matos (7-5) went 8 strong innings, giving up 3 hits and 2 runs to bring home the win. Mauro Candelaria lead the offense going 3-4 with 4 RBI. Of the 13 hits, the Cav's had only 1 XB hit, a Kent Davis double. Pablo Freitas went 2-4 with 2 runs and 2 SB.

Game 70
Norfolk 3, Georgetown 4
Karl Armstrong (8-4) went all 8, but took the loss as the offense couldn't get anything going. Armstrong went 8, giving up 4 runs (3 ER) on 5 hits. The offense was lead by Jose Escamilla who went 2-4 with a double and an RBI. Pablo Freitas and Jose Rodriquez each added a hit and an RBI.

Game 71
Ellicott City 4, Norfolk 3
Javier Uberuagao (6-6) took the loss with a solid start. Javier went 7 innings, allowing 7 hits and 4 runs, the issue was the 3-HR's he gave up. The offense had 14 hits, left 8 on, and once again was powerless, only getting 1 XB hit. Kent Davis went 4-5 and Mauro Candelaria went 3-4 to lead the offense. Jose Rodriquez and Jesus Rivera each added 2 hits. Pablo Freitas had the only XB hit a double in the 1st.

(End of June)

Game 72
Ellicott City 0, Norfolk 9
Don Sweetapple (8-4) is in the zone, throwing a complete game 3 hitter, striking out 12. Giving him 25 K's in his last 2 starts. The offense once again had double digit hits and only 1 XB (a Jesus Rivera double in the first). Kent Davis had 3 hits and scored 3 times. Roberto Perez, Jose Rodriquez and Gilberto Ramos each had 2 hits. Rodriquez and Rivera drove in 3 each.

Transactions: Cooper Mananghaya was activated from the DL and assigned to AAA Yokohama. He threw 5.2 shut-out innings, getting the win in his return. He will stay in AAA for a little while longer, due to the aquisition of Javier Uberuaga.

Game 73
Ellicott City 4, Norfolk 6
Carlos Mateo (8-3) threw well for 6.2 innings, giving up 9 hits and 4 runs. Dalton Whitaker pitched the 9th for the save (22). Glad to report we actually had some XB hits today. Mason Foster lead the offense with a 2-3 day with 2 runs and 2 RBI. Foster added his first ML HR (1). Pablo Freitas also added 2-hits and a HR (13).

Game 74
Ellicott City 5, Norfolk 4 (11 Innings)
Jose Matos (ND) went 6.1 innings, allowing 6 hits and 3 runs. Jamie King (1-1) took the loss going 4.1 innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits, he gave up a 2-run blast in the top of the 11th. The offense only managed 6 hits, one by 6 different players. Th eonly extra base hit was a double by Jose Rodriquez.

Players of the Week:
Delaware: Andy Kohl, Dover Generals, 12-21, 2 HR's, 8 RBI, 7 Runs
MarVa: Francisco Reyes, Ocean City Tourists, 9-25, 5 HR's, 11 RBI

Power Rankings:
1) Norfolk Cavaliers (115.3)
2) Chesapeake Blue Crabs (112.9)
3) Annapolis Admirals (109.5)
4) Lewes Braves (106.2)
5) Wilmington Iron Pigs (103.2)

Notable Feats:
John Bowles, Baltimore Barons, went 4-4 hitting or the cycle, he becomes the 4th player ever in DelMarVa League history to do so.

Notable Injuries:
none

GM Thoughts/Notes: For some reason this team has all of a sudden turned into a singles team. I need to look back at the stats, but it seems like XB hits have been few and far between lately. We have too much pop with our 2-4 hits to only hit 1 or 2 HR's a week... Sweetapple is a man on a mission. Makes me think he is pitching for a contract. If he does chose to stay another year in Norfolk, I will do what it takes to get him an extension. I have decided not to trade him, unless we tank in July and August, but right now I am playing for a Championship... Kent Davis is just on fire this year. At his current pace he will break the league record for hits in a season. Seems like 2-3 times a week he puts together a multi-hit game... I don't foresee any trades happening in July, so this will be the first full month with our "new" rotation. I am looking forward to see what they have.

Jesus Rivera hit a 3-run HR (3). Julio Romero added 3 hits and Kent Davis 2.

Game 80
Norfolk 4, Washington 5 (14 Innings)
Karl Armstrong (ND) took a tough ND, as the offense just couldn't get runs for him. He went 7 innings, allowing 7 hits and 3 runs before leaving the game. Jame King (1-2) pitched 3.2 innings, allowing 2 runs in the bottom of the 14th after the Cav's took the lead in the top. Transactions: Derek Campbell was actived from the 15-day DL and played on the active roster. Mason Foster was sent down to AAA to make room for Derek. Derek will be inserted in the line up and will play SS, moving Jose Escamilla to 3B and Mauro Candelaria to 1B.

Players of the Week:
Delaware: Andy Kohl, Dover Generals, 11-24, 2 HR's, 6 RBI
MarVa: Totoya Ogawa, Chesapeake Blue Crabs, 8-21, 4 HR's, 12 RBI

Power Rankings:
1) Norfolk Cavaliers (115.3)
2) Chesapeake Blue Crabs (112.9)
3) Annapolis Admirals (109.5)
4) Lewes Braves (106.2)
5) Wilmington Iron Pigs (103.2)

Notable Feats/News:
Ocean City Tourists traded for MR Jack Clow (3-3 7 SV 1.88 ERA) and Miguel Ruiz (.340-5-21) in 2 seperate deals this week, they seem to be gearing up for a run for the division title.
The Newark Millers fired their manager Francisco Otero after their 33-46 start. This was Otero's second year with the Millers, last year they finished 86-76 2nd place in their division.

Notable Injuries:
Morris Sinclair, Lewes Braves, starting 2B will miss 6 weeks with a concussion.
Brent Wagner, Annapolis Admirals, closer will miss 2 months with a hamstring strain.

GM Thoughts/Notes: The starting pitching is looking good, the offense isn't plugging along, the defense is solid, and the bullpen continues to struggle... I am not sure I will make any moves with the bullpen, but I have shopped a around a couple guys. Just not much in return. One thing I like my relievers to have is control. I will have to dig a little deeper. If anyone I'd like to move Essie Bookelman for a youngster and save 2 million. We will see, the deadline is creeping up on us... We are moving in to the last week before the all-star game, then the heat of the summer. Hopefully we can stay strong as last season this is when we started to fall apart. This may be a big year for Norfolk All-Stars, we have a lot of guys who deserve a roster spot it will be interesting to see who makes it... I found it interesting to see the Ocean City Tourists make a couple of big deals, IMO they stole Clow and Ruiz. Its nice to see they aren't throwing in the towel... I am looking forward to this final week and the All-Star game, as we move into the 1/2 way point. Up by 12 games we are in a pretty good position to hold on. As long as we can keep away from the injury bug we should be set.

Javier Uberuaga (7-7) pitched an 8 inning complete game, giving up 5 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 9. The offense left 8 runners stranded. Kent Davis had 3 hits and 2 SB's, while Derek Campbell and Jesus Rivera each went 2-4.

Game 82
Norfolk 9, Ellicot City 1
Don Sweetapple (10-4) continued to be in the zone, going all 9 innings, giving up just 1 run, on 4 hits. The offense exploded for 17 hits, with Roberto Perez and Juan Rodriquez each getting 3. Rodriquez added 3-RBI. Mauro Candelaria, Derek Campbell, Jaun Rivera and Jose Escamilla each added 2 hits, as every starter had at least one hit. Roberto Perez (15) and Jacob Chaney (6) each homered and Juan Rodriquez hit 2 (13).

Game 83
Richmond 1, Norfolk 6
Carlos Mateo (9-4) threw 8 innings of 1 hit ball, the only hit was a HR for the lone Cardinals run. The offense was lead by Pablo Freitas, who went 2-4 with a solo-HR (16) and Jacob Chaney who went 2-3 with a HR (7) and 4 RBI.

Game 84
Richmond 0, Norfolk 4
Jose Matos (9-5) pitched the 3rd complete game for the Cav's this week, allwoing just 2 singles over 9 innings, while striking out 6. The offense was lead by Jesus Rivera who went 2-4 with a triple and a HR (4) and Derek Campbell who went 2-4 with a HR (9).

Injury News: Yasutoki Ine, who was playing down in AAA, strained his oblique and will miss the next 6 weeks.

Game 85
Richmond 7, Norfolk 5
Karl Armstrong (9-5) got roughed up over 4.1 innings, allowing 7 hits and 6 runs to take the loss. The offense was lead by Mauro Candelaria who went 4-5 and Roberto Perez who went 3-4 with a HR (16). Jose Rodriquez and Derek Campbell each added 2 hits.

Game 86
Richmond 5, Norfolk 10
Javier Uberuaga (ND) went 5.1 innings allowing 4 runs on 8 hits leaving in the top of the 6th in a tie game. Jamie King (2-2) threw 2 innings, giving up 1 run and Dalton Whitaker pitched the final 1.2 for the save (27) striking out 4. Red hot Jose Rodriquez lead the offense with a 4-6 day, hitting 2 HRs (15), driving in 6 and scoring 3 times. Pablo Freitas went 3-4 with 3 RBI and Jacob Chaney added 2 hits.

** All-Star Break **

Players of the Week:
Delaware: Abdul-Hafiz Abdul-Majid, Newark Millers, 10-19 2 HR, 10 RBI
MarVa: Jose Rodriquez, Norfolk Cavaliers, 10-20 4 HR, 9 RBI

Power Rankings:
1) Norfolk Cavaliers (118.0)
2) Annapolis Admirals (113.9)
3) Chesapeake Blue Crabs (109.8)
4) Wilmington Iron Pigs (101.6)
5) Lewes Braves (98.4)

Notable Feats/News:
Steve williams has now hit in 20 straight games. This is the 15th hitting streak in the DBL, Williams has had 3 of them, including the longest at 43 games.
Billy Moore, Milford Clippers, became the first player in the DBL to reach 500 RBI's. Doing it in style, going 5-5 with a HR and 5 RBI. He has 80 more then next closest player.

Notable Injuries:
George Waller, Baltimore Barons, middle-infielder went down with a bone spur in his elbow. He will be out 3-4 weeks.

GM Thoughts/Notes: Derek Campbell came back in a fury, hitting .360 in his first week with the Cavs. He had 9 hits, a double and a HR, while scoring 2 times and knocking in 3... Don Sweetapple's scoreless streak ended at 35.2, he is just in a zone right now, winning 5 of his last 6 starts. He seems to have a strech of 10 games each season where he is just a beast... We go into the All-Star break with a nice lead of the Senators who seem to be warming up a little bit. We will reset our rotation and face Washington in hopes to expand our lead. They ran us down last year and I don't want them to again this year... The starting pitching was wonderful this week. They seem to be in their stride... I am ready to get the 2nd half rolling...

DelMarVa Baseball League - Official Announcement

DelMarVa Baseball League - Official Announcement
The All-Star break is a time of celebration and today we would like to celebrate growth in the DelMarVa Baseball League. Starting in 2017 we are going to welcome 4 new teams, one in each Division.

Joining the Delaware Conference are the Seaford Blue Jays and the Christiana Bluehens. The Blue Jays will be assigned to the Southern Division and hte Bluehens to the Northern.

Over in the MarVa Conference, the Salisbury Ports and Virginia Beach Surfdawgs will be coming aboard. The Ports will join the Western Division and the Surfdawgs will be joining the Eastern Division.

There will be an expansion draft following the season. Good luck to the new franchises!

(I am going to try to expand, never done it on my own before only with League evolution. If I screw things up I may end up just pushing it back a year...)

The new teams logos.
Yes I noticed they all have blue. I may end up changing the Ports colors, but for time being here they are...

A Look Back

This off-season and season has seen a flurry of trades and now that its the All-Star Break I thought we should look back and all the players we parted with and see how they are doing...

Off-Season Deals:
For Cooper Mananghaya and Jamie King
Brian Cline, New Castle Colonials
74 Games / .316-14-35 (All-Star)
Steven Wilson, New Castle Colonials (#17)
8 Games / .300-2-5 (Major League Debut 07/08/2016)

Cline has enjoyed playing full-time as as Jose Rodriquez, seems that both of these guys were due to break out, and if they were still together in Norfolk (NFK) they would be sharing time... I am surprised to see Steven Wilson reach the majors so quickly, he was called up from AA. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the year pans out for him.

For Luis Deleon (#7) and Eisse Bookelman
Carlos Rodriquez, Lewes Braves
25 Games / 1-3 4.45 11 Saves
Esteban Sandoval, Lewes Braves
46 Games / .231-3-12 (Major League Debut 04/26/2016)

Carlos was costing us too much and Dalton Whitaker has made us forget him and his salary. Rodriquez did miss a month with an injury, but he seems to be throwing the ball well in his return... Sandoval was a throw in and I am very surprised to see him in the majors.

For Pat Hall and Kent Davis
Tony Soto, Baltimore Barons
80 Games / .309-10-44 (All-Star)
Elliot Bean, Baltimore Barons
28 Games / 1-2 5.50 3 Saves
Jeremy Jones, Baltimore Barons (#68)
87 Games / .291-6-40 (A)
Gabriel Santos, Baltimore Barons (#14)
2 Games / 1-1 9.82 (AA)
17 Games / 5-5 4.02 (A)

We gave up too much with this deal, but Kent Davis is going to be around a few years and he could be one of the leagues premier contact hitters. Soto is an All-Star and from the looks of it he has stepped up his defense. Santos and Jones were keys to deal, and they should have promising careers.

For Ivan Pineda
Edgar Matsuda, Annapolis Admirals
9 games / 0-0 4.42
Fillippio Morone, Annapolis Admirals (#134)
25 Games / .263-0-9 (Major League Debut 04/09/2016)

This was a steal. Pineda struggled at the beginning of the season, but has done well since. Matsuda just didn't fit in with my philosophy. Seeing Morone in the majors boggles my mind. I am pretty sure he wouldn't of ever made the roster in NFK. Glad to see him get his cup of coffee.

For Adrian Otero and Dan Nelson (#146)
Chistopher Shopland, Baltimore Barons
54 Games / .239-1-14

Shopland never became the 'star' we envisioned, and he hasn't done much with Baltimore. He has been up and down with AAA this season as he has struggled at the big league level. Otero has been hurt most of the seasons, but this was a great deal for us.

For Jose Escamilla
Jose Villa, Annapolis Admirals
17 Games / 10-5 3.38 (All-Star)

The fact that Jose Villa changed from MR to starter and is now an All-Star shocks me. He has struggled the past 2 months and I have feeling he won't be in the rotation by seasons end. This one will be an interesting one to revisit. Escamilla has been solid for us in the IF, and has put up adequate numbers. I would make this trade 10 out of 10 times.

For Cody Johnson and Derek Carter (#150)
Joe Payne, Annapolis Admirals
80 Games / .290-7-25
Scott Smith, Annapolis Admirals
19 Games / 4-1 3.55

Joe Payne has been great for the Admirals, he is back to putting up numbers he put up with us 2 years ago. The change of scenery has been great for him. Scott Smith has done well out of the pen and we are happy he is healthy. This trade was made more for roster space than anything and its worked out well for both of us, probably a little better for the Admirals as Johnson has struggled hitting the ball this season.

** In Season Trades **

For Jose Matos
Tsuneo Sato, Chesapeake Blue Crabs
8 Games / 2-4 4.80 (9 Games / 3-3 5.16 w/ NFK)
Tomas Reyes, Chesapeake Blue Crabs
30 Games / .257-0-14 (14 games / .289-0-2 w/ NFK)
Will McNeal, Chesapeake Blue Crabs
18 Games / 1-1 5.14 1 Save (20 Games / 4-1 3.46 1 Save w/ NFK(AAA))
Joseph Kearse, Chesapeake Blue Crabs (#17)
42 Games / .223-2-26 (A) (47 Games / .269-6-27 w/ NFK(A))

This was a great deal for us. We got rid of some deadweight and some big money deals. Sato was fading, Reyes was paid too much McNeal wasn't going to make the big w/ us and we felt that Kearse was overrated. If Kearse develops into a superstar then this trade might turn out on the negative side, but that is a big 'if'. Yes we drafted him twice, but our new scout isn't as fond as him as our old one. Matos, Mateo and Sweetapple may carry us to the title, that is how good our rotation is now.

For Derek Campbell
Ron Alder, Ellicott City Express
27 Games / .274-0-17 (52 Games / .204-4-10 w/ NFK)

Campbell has finally joined the team and he is hitting the ball, making us forget about Ron Alder. He had a career year in 2015 and we felt he was on the downward spiral. Getting a prospect for him fills 2 goals (youth and money). Alder wasn't happy in NFK, so moving felt like the right thing to do. With Perez and Davis stealing bases left and right this season, it makes losing his speed that much easier.

For Javier Uberuaga
Pat Hall, Washington Senators
26 Games / .238-3-11 (7 Games / .200-1-4 w/ NFK)

Getting Javier for Hall makes the Soto trade look better. (Hall came over in the deal.) Hall has a bright future, but didn't have fit into our plans this year. Plus with the likely hood of losing Sweetapple we needed to think about the pitching of our future. We got that with Javier.

2016 All-Star Game

The 2016 All-Star game was hosted by the Baltimore Barons as the MarVa Conference was the home team... The game started out poorly for the MarVa Conf as the Delaware Conference jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning, scoring 2 unearned runs off of Don Sweetapple on Don's fielding miscue. After 2 innings the MarVa conference fight back making it a 3-1 game, but a 3-run HR by Joaquin Torres in the 4th took the wind out of the MarVa sails, and the Delaware Conference took home an easy All-Star game victory 8-3.

W: Larry Cooper
L: Don Sweetapple
HR: Joaquin Torres
MVP: Joaqin Torres (2-4 HR 3 RBI R)

Cavaliers All-Stars (* denotes starter):
*Roberto Perez 0-3
*Kent Davis 0-3 1 K (last years game MVP)
Pablo Fretias 0-1
Jose Rodriqeuz 0-1

*Don Sweetapple 2 innings 4 hits 3 runs (1 ER) 2 K's
Jose Matos 1 inning 1 hit 1 K (7 pitches 5 strikes)
Carlos Mateo 1 innings 1 hit 1 K (7 pitches 6 strikes)
Dalton Whitaker 1/3 inning 1 K

Mauro Candelaria lead the offense with the game winning 2-run HR (6) in the 8th. The Cav's only manage 3 hits on the day.

Game 89
Washington 7, Norfolk 5 (14 Innings)

Players of the Week:
Delaware: Andy Kohl, Dover Generals, 6-13, 3 HR's, 5 RBI and 5 Runs
MarVa: Lorenzo Nieto, Richmond Cardinals, 9-19, 1 HR, 5 RBI

Power Rankings:
1) Norfolk Cavaliers (121.0)
2) Annapolis Admirals (118.0)
3) Wilmington Iron Pigs (106.0)
4) Chesapeake Blue Crabs (102.0)
5) Lewes Braves (99.0)

Notable Feats/News:
n/a

Notable Injuries:
Anthony Cunningham, Dover Generals, one of the games best hitters will miss the rest of the season, with a broken knee-cap. It will be at least 8-months before Anthony can return to baseball activities. Fro the seasons Anthony is hitting .335-16-53.

GM Thoughts/Notes: It was a short week, but an effective one, as we sent a message to the team trying to chase us down. We are better than you, and we extended our lead to 15 games. We probably should of swept them, but this team just has some issues with extra inning games... We are coming to the 2nd half healthy and ready to take the division. With 72 games left, and a 15 game lead we are feeling confident...

Questions for the 2nd Half:
1) Can Jose Rodriquez keep it up? He is having a career year.
2) Can we stay healthy? The last two seasons injuries hurt us in the 2nd half. Will this year be different?
3) Will the bullpen get it together?

Time to move on to the 2nd half, and show everyone what we are made of.

Trade

As the trade deadline looms I made one final trade in hopes to better the bullpen. I sent Essie Bookleman to the Chesapeake Blue Crabs in return for Will Rose. Rose will be moved into the set-up role and Elmer Hawkins will be moved to middle relief. Hawkins has been struggling this season, so hopefully taking the set-up pressure off of him will help us out.

This trade was made for 3 reasons, 1) Essie wasn't happy and his performance was showing 2) Will gives us another lefty in the pen, so now we have two and 3) hopefully, it will give the pen a boost. They have been our weakest link this season so hopefully this will help.

Financially this is a wash, Will makes a little more money, but we are receiving 1 million to off-set that. They both could be free agents by seasons end, so this may be a short term rental.

Earlier in the day Will Rose was traded to Chesapeake from the Milton Brewers.

This "should" be our last trade before the deadline.

Official Press Release:
Norfolk, Chesapeake Trade Players: The Cavaliers and Blue Crabs have been engaged in a little wheeling and dealing. They have just concluded a trade with 29-year-old reliever Eisse Bookelman going to Chesapeake in exchange for 29-year-old reliever Will Rose and $1,000,000 in cash.

For the season Bookelman is 1-and-1 with no saves and a 4.50 ERA. He has given up 29 hits in 32 innings with 23 strikeouts.

To date in the season, Rose is 4-3 with 44 relief appearances and no saves. He has held opposing batters to a .276 average, pitched 48 innings, struck out 37 and walked 32 while recording a 5.81 ERA.

Week 17

Current Week: 5-1 (63-31 - GB, 1st (+18))
Next Week: 2 vs Milton Brewers, 4 @ Richmond Cardinals
Power Ranking: 1
Fan Interest: 73 (+1)
Owners Mood: Ecstatic

Game 91
Norfolk 4, Baltimore 1
Jose Matos (10-5) was in full control going 7.1 innings, allowing just 3 hits and one 1 run. Dalton Whitaker pitched a perfect 9th for the save (31). The offence was held to 7 hits, with Jacob Chaney leading the way with 2. Derek Campbell hit a solo-HR in the 6th (10).

Injury News: Derek Campbell will be out 1-2 weeks after getting hit by a pitch. He will be place on the 15-day DL. To fill his roster spot we have recalled Mason Foster. Foster's role will be backup infielder. Jose Escamilla will move back to SS from 3B, Roberto Perez will move from DH to 3B and Cody Johnson and Gilberto Ramos will share time at DH.

Game 92
Norfolk 8, Baltimore 0
Karl Armstrong (10-5) pitched 8.2 innings of shut-out ball, allowing 6 hits before handing the ball over to Will Rose to finish off the game. The offense had 12 hits, including 2 each by Kent Davis, Roberto Perez, Gilberto Ramos and Jacob Chaney.

Game 93
Norfolk 4, Annapolis 5
Javier Uberuaga (7-8) was a tough luck loser going 6.2 innings, allowing 10 hits and 5 runs. The offense just couldn't score enough runs, was lead by Jose Rodriquez 2-3 with a 2 RBI and a HR (16) and Roberto Perez 1-3 2 runs and a HR (18). Pablo Freitas and Jacob Chaney each added 2 hits.

Game 94
Norfolk 7, Annapolis 1
Don Sweetapple (11-4) pitched a great game going 9 innings, allowing 6 hits and 1 run. Jacob Chaney had 2 hits for the 4th straight game, including a 2-run HR (8). Kent Davis added 2 hits and 3 RBI and Julio Romero had a pinch-hit 2-rbi single.

Game 95
Norfolk 3, Annapolis 1
Carlos Mateo (11-4) went 5.2 innings, giving up 4 hits, 0 runs while striking out 8. Dalton Whitaker pitched the 9th for the save (32). Jose Rodriquez hit a 3-run HR (17) and Kent Davis added 2 hits.

Game 96
Norfolk 6, Annapolis 2
Jose Matos (11-5) went 5.2 innings, giving up 3 hits and 2 runs before handing the ball over to Jamie King who went the pitched shut-out ball for final 3.1 for the save (1). Jose Rodriqeuz lead the way going 2-3 with a HR (18) and 4 RBI. Kent Davis Jose Escamilla and Cody Johnson each added 2 hits. Cody hit his first career HR (1) and drove in 2.

Players of the Week:
Delaware: Stan Miller, Georgetown Sixteens, 11-23 4 HR's 10 RBI
MarVa: Roberto Villalobos, Ocean City Tourists, 11-22 2 HR's 7 RBI

Power Rankings:
1) Norfolk Cavaliers (127.1)
2) Chesapeake Blue Crabs (108.9)
3) Wilmington Iron Pigs (108.0)
4) Annapolis Admirals (105.8)
5) Lewes Braves (98.5)

Notable Feats/News:
Steve Williams, Annapolis Admirals, hitting streak ens at 24
Cody Patton, Georgetown Sixteens, extends his hitting streak to 20

Notable Injuries:
Jorge Gutierrez, Annapolis Admirals, starting shortshop out for 4 weeks with a fractured hand.
Abraham Thomas, Washington Senators, one of the games premier hitts, has suffered some recent set-backs, but should rejoin the Senators in 1-2 weeks.

GM Thoughts/Notes: Not much to be said about this week. The team just put everything together and looked great... Cody Johnson picked up Derek Campbell and hopefully he can keep it up one more week. Having Campbell makes us a better team that is for sure, but responding to an injury like that makes life easier... Will Rose had 3 perfect outings over 2 innings. So far so good, but we will see what the rest of the season brings. I do like having to lefties in the pen though... We now head into August with a sizable lead over Washington, but we won't be letting up. Feels good to be playing solid-ball... Jose Rodriquez came out of the all-star break on fire, but Pablo Freitas and Mauro Candelaria are now slumping. I need those two guys to hit the ball if we want to succeed.

Thanks. I may hit you up for it later. I don't currently have any all-star games in my leagues, but I may have them in the future for a dynasty.

July 2016 Recap

Players of the Month:
Delaware Conference:

Batter of the Month: Peter Peters, New Castle Colonials
Peter Peters Selected July's Best Batter: When Peter Peters stepped up to the plate in July, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Delaware Conference Batter of the Month award. The young New Castle right fielder posted a .372 batting average with 8 home runs, 27 RBIs and scored 25 runs. Peters also worked pitchers for 21 walks to post a .495 on-base percentage. Peters is currently batting .359 with 38 home runs and 97 RBIs.

Peter just can't be stopped. He is well on his way to winning his 2nd MCVP award, and possible the first ever triple crown. He has been on fire all season long. Just have to hope he can keep it up as his team fades from playoff contention.

Pitcher of the Month: Marcos Estrada, Wilmington Iron Pigs
Best Pitcher Picked by Delaware Conference: Veteran Marcos Estrada put together quite a successful stretch in July for the Wilmington Iron Pigs, earning himself the Delaware Conference Pitcher of the Month award. Estrada racked up a 4-0 record in 5 starts, posting a 2.00 ERA over 36 innings and striking out 42. In 20 starts this season Estrada has rung up a 11-5 record and a 3.31 ERA.

I tried to swing a deal for Estrada a few weeks back, giving them Sweetapple (plus more) but we couldn't the money to work right, and they were shy giving away Estrada. He is under team control 1 more season. It worked out, because I would have over paid for him. Sometimes you just get caught up in the moment.

Rookie of the Month: Pedro Galvan, Dover Generals
Delaware Conference Names Rookie of Month: A veritable toddler to the Delaware Conference, Pedro Galván just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for July. Over the past month the 22-year-old shortstop for Dover hit .317 with 33 hits, no home runs and 9 runs batted in. He also logged 11 walks and compiled a .385 on-base percentage. This season Galván has delivered 49 hits in 155 at-bats for a .316 average with 1 home run. He is getting on base at a .371 clip and his totals also include 12 RBIs and 25 runs scored. This year Galván has played in 36 games.

MarVa Conference:

Batter of the Month: Totoya Ogawa, Chesapeake Blue Crabs
Ogawa Cops MVDIV Batter of the Month Honors: Nobody was better with the bat in July! Totoya Ogawa caught everyone's attention with some hot hitting and today he came away with the Batter of the Month award. Chesapeake's first baseman put together a solid month with a .326 batting average, 10 home runs, 23 RBIs and 22 runs scored. Ogawa is hitting .277 in 2016 with 68 RBIs and 26 home runs.

Pitcher of the Month: Don Sweetapple, Norfolk Cavaliers
July's Best MVDIV Hurler is Sweetapple: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Don Sweetapple still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in July. The 31-year-old starter for Norfolk was named MarVa Conference Pitcher of the Month earlier today. He collected 4 wins and no losses with 38 strikeouts in his 5 starts, putting up a fine 1.06 ERA in 42.1 innings of work. So far this season Sweetapple has 11 wins and 4 losses and a 2.41 ERA.

In what might be his swan song season with the Cavaliers, Sweetapple may be having his best season yet. I hope he takes his player option and stays one more year, but the amount of money other teams have thrown around for tier 1 starters it'd be hard to see him staying. He is the anchor of this staff for four years now.

Rookie of the Month: Maros Gomez, Baltimore Barons
MVDIV Selects Rookie of the Month: In July, budding star Marcos Gómez had quite a month as he smashed up the MarVa Conference and stashed away the Rookie of the Month award in his trophy case. During the month he hit .339 with 3 doubles, no triples and 2 home runs. Gómez also scored 14 times and drove in 8 runs. In 94 games this season Gómez has batted at a .309 pace with 124 hits and 10 home runs.

Standings as for August 1st 2016

The Sixteen have been busy making trades and it looks like it might of paid off, as they are starting to inch closer to Lewes. The Brewers are trying to hold on tight, but I don't know. This month will be big for the Sixteens and Brewers... You have to give props to the Iron Pigs, they just have a fine tuned organization. Increased their lead by 5 games and they seem to be the class of the division. With Marcos Estrada on the bump every 5 days, they are just too much... The Admirals and Blue Crabs will be in a summer fight, going to be a big month for both teams. The Tourists made some trades and I really thought they were going to move up, they really need one more pitcher. Miguel Contreras is 12-2, everyone else has a losing record. Losing Miguel Bravo (#5 SP) might be a blessing for them... Not sure what to say about my Cavaliers. Increased our lead by 5 games. This is the month that concerns me most, need to remain healthy!!

Norfolk Recap

We made some trades to solidify our rotation and it looks like it has paid off, we are back being #1 in runs against and starters ERA, now we just need to hope that Will Rose will help solidify the pen. But I do like where this team is in regards to pitching... Dalton Whitaker has been amazing... Offensively we are struggling outside of our top 4. I do need Mauro Candelaria to hit better, but maybe I am just too optimistic about his talent... Our defense is the best in the league, so there really isn't anything to complain about. I am debating to keep Perez at 3B and Escamilla at SS when Campbell comes off the DL and just leave him the DH. We will see Escamilla is having a gold glove type of season at SS.

We have been really consistent all season, with a great July:
April 12-9 .571
May 17-8 .680
June 16-9 .640
July 18-7 .720

Jose Matos is 8-0 in 10 Starts with a 2.59 ERA since he came over, making the loss of Sato and Reyes seem long forgotten. Javier Uberuaga is 1-4 in 7 starts with a 4.29 ERA. He has had some bad luck thats for sure. But I will take the way he has pitched in the loss of Sun Ho.

Off to July! I am ready for some summer fun...

Players of the Week:
Delaware: Ramon Torres, Wilmington Iron Pigs, 11-22 1 HR, 2 RBI
MarVa: Cliff Jones, Washington Senators, 10-22 0 HR, 8 RBI, 6 Runs.

Power Rankings:
1) Norfolk Cavaliers (128.0)
2) Annapolis Admirals (113.4)
3) Wilmington Iron Pigs (106.1)
4) Lewes Braves (103.6)
5) Chesapeake Blue Crabs (103.1)

Notable Feats/News:
Cliff Jones, Washington Senators, extended his hit streak to 24 games, tied for the longest of the season.

Notable Injuries:
Edgar Matsuda, Annapolis Admirals, received bad news today, being diagnosed with shoulder inflammation and will miss 6-7 months.
Tsuneo Sato, Chesapeake Blue Crabs, recived news that his season is over. Diagnosed with shoudler inflammation he will miss 5-6 months

** maybe its a good thing I just resigned my trainer Francisco Gonzalez to 5-year extension. Both these guys were with the Cavliers earler this season or last.

GM Thoughts/Notes: Not much to say this week, the team is playing at a high level and seem to be enjoying winning games... Defense Deff is up to .720, which is awesome. The bullpen ERA is holding steady at #3 which isn't too bad, but could be better... Problem with blow-out games are the closer doesn't get used enough. Whitaker only got in one game this week... Sweetapple, Mateo, Matos and Armstrong have become a pretty formidable 1-4... Derek Campbell will be rejoining the team after a stint on the 15-day DL.

Week 19

Current Week: 5-1 (73-35 - GB, 1st (+22))
Next Week: 2 vs Washington Senators, 3 @ Ellicott City Express
Power Ranking: 1
Fan Interest: 74
Owners Mood: Ecstatic

Game 103
Norfolk 1, New Castle 5
Javier Uberuaga (8-9) didn't pitch bad, but the offense wasn't able to give him enough runs. Javier went 7 innings, giving up 9 hits and 5 runs. The offense was pretty quiet today, getting 4 hits, by 2 Jose Rodriquez.

Game 104
Norfolk 5, New Castle 1
Don Sweetapple (13-4) went 8 strong innings, giving up 7 hits and 1 run. Dalton Whitaker pitched a perfet 9th to get some work in. Mauro Candelaria lead the offense going 3-4 with 2 RBI. Roberto Perez and Jacob Chaney each had 2 hits.

Transactions News: Derek Campbell was activated from DL, Mason Foster was sent down to AAA. Campbell will take over the DH roles for games w/ a DH in place of Cody Johnson and take over SS detail for Jose Escamilla for games w/o a DH.

Game 105
Chesapeake 4, Norfolk 5
Carlos Mateo (ND) went 6 innings, giving up 6 hits and 3 runs before giving way to Will Rose. Will (5-3) went 3 innings giving up 2 hits and 1 run. Jose Escamilla went 1-3 with a 3-run HR (4). Kent Davis added 2 hits.

Game 106

Game 107
Chesapeake 4, Norfolk 13
Karl Armstrong (13-5) gave the Cavaliers 3 starters with 13 wins, going 7.1 innings, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits. The offense banged out 15 hits, lead by Kent Davis going 3-5 and Roberto Perez going 3-5 scoring 4 times. Derek Campbell hit another HR (12), a 3-run shot, Mauro Candelaria, Jose Escamilla and Jacob Chaney each had 2 hits. Jose Rodriquez hit a 2-run HR (22).

Game 108
Chesapeake 0, Norfolk 9

The offense was lead by Mauro Candelaria going 3-5 with a double anda triple with 3 RBI. Derek Campbell stayed hot in his return going 2-5 with a HR (13). Roberto Perez added 2 hits. Pablo Freitas and Jose Rodriquez each scored a 2 runs.

Players of the Week:
Delaware: Vince Moy, Milford Clippers, 9-16 3 HRs, 5 Runs, 7 RBI
MarVa: Virgil White, Richmond Cardinals, 10-20 4 HR, 12 RBI, 7 Runs

Power Rankings:
1) Norfolk Cavaliers (132.7)
2) Annapolis Admirals (114.3)
3) Wilmington Iron Pigs (110.0)
4) Lewes Braves (108.7)
5) Dover Generals (96.3)

Notable Feats/News:
Cliff Jones, Washington Senators, hit streak came to an end at 26 games. The longest of this season.

Notable Injuries:
none

GM Thoughts/Notes: The offense has been coming together, not one player carrying the team, but a blend of players. The offense is now 3rd in Runs scored and 2nd in batting average and OBPCT... The starters are ready for the post-season its a shame we have 54 games left. The team is firing on all cylinders... The pitching is now #1 in runs against, #1 in Starters ERA and we finally moved up to #2 in bullpen ERA! I am guessing this has a lot to do with lack of work. The staters have just been going nice and deep into games... The Cav's have the best record in the League by 8 games... Jose Matos is now 10-0 since joining the Cavaliers.

Week 20

Current Week: 4-1 (77-36 - GB, 1st (+24))
Next Week: 2 vs Dover Generals, 4 vs Annapolis Admirals
Power Ranking: 1
Fan Interest: 75 (+1)
Owners Mood: Ecstatic

Game 109
Washington 2, Norfolk 4 (11 Innings)
Don Sweetapple (ND) pitched 8 solid innings, giving up 1 run on 5 hits to continue his hot streak, but Dalton Whitaker blew the save (3) in the 9th to send it to extra. Will Rose (6-3) pitched a perfect 11th to claim the win. The offense was led by Mauro Candelaria and Derek Campbell each with two hits, but the hero was Jose Escamilla hitting a 2-run walk-off HR in the 11th (5).

Game 110
Washington 1, Norfolk 4
Carlos Mateo (12-5) went 8 innings, giving up 3 hits and 1 run to get the win, and Dalton Whitaker redeemed himself pitching the a scoreless 9th for the save (35). The offense was lead by Kent Davis, Mauro Candelaria and Jose Escamilla each with 2 hits. Escamilla had 2 doubles.

Game 111
Ellicott City 0, Norfolk 4
Jose Matos (14-5) went 7 shut-out innings, giving up 3 hits, before handing the ball over to Will Rose who threw the final 2 innings. The offense was lead by Jose Rodriquez with 3-hits and Pablo Freitas with 2 hits, including a 2-run blast (19). Jacob Chaney also added 2 hits.

Game 112
Ellicott City 4, Norfolk 1
Karl Armstrong (13-6) was a tough luck loser going 7.1 innings allowing 3 runs, only 1 ER, thanks to a couple of errors, on 4 hits. Ron Harris pitched the final 2/3 giving up an unearned run. Mauro Candelaria lead the offense stroking 2 of the teams 5 hits. Derek Camplbell and Pat Shelton each added doubles.

Injury News: Jose Escamilla, our gold glove caliber short-stop, was removed from the game after a collision. He will be out 2-weeks with a sprainted ankle. Derek Campbell will be moved from DH to SS and Gilberto Ramos will take over the DH role.

Game 113
Ellicott City 3, Norfolk 7
Javier Uberuaga (10-9) went 7 innings giving up 10 hits and 2 runs to take home the win, as Ron Harris and Dalton Whitaker pitched the final 2 innings. Pablo Freitas lead the offense going 3-5 with 2 runs and 2 RBI, including his 20th HR and 23rd stolen base. Mauro Candelaria, Derek Campbell and Gilberto Ramos each added 2 hits. Derek Campbell (14) and Jesus Rivera (6) each added solo-HRs.

Players of the Week:
Delaware: Steven Wilson, New Castle Colonials, 10-16 2 HR's 9 RBI
MarVa: Bill Little, Washington Senators, 6-11 3 HR's, 7 RBI

Power Rankings:
1) Norfolk Cavaliers (131.7)
2) Lewes Braves (112.5)
3) Wilmington Iron Pigs (110.1)
4) Annapolis Admirals (105.7)
5) Dover Generals (95.0)

Notable Feats/News:
none

Notable Injuries:
none

GM Thoughts/Notes: We are running away with the division now, but I wouldn't consider us "champs" just yet. Still a lot of ball left, but we have handled our division opponents pretty easily... Injuries are what scare me, as long as we can stay healthy we should be able to make a run at the title... Again not much to talk about, Derek Campbell is hitting the ball great since his return, Mauro Candelaria is warming up, Javier U has looked good in his past few starts and Jose Matos has been pretty dominant. Hard to see a weakness right now.
