Yep, that's true, but the stuff bonus won't be applied if he starts a game.

Be sure to make the changes needed in pitch counts and so forth.

Try it now while the league is over for the night, move a starter to the start rotation, check and note the ratings as a sp. Now change the position of the sp to reliever and the increased reliever changes will stay.

I've been experimenting with occasional opener pitchers in P416.
Results are interesting.to say the least.

Yeah, the ratings will change on the card but they won't be applied within the sim if the pitcher starts games.

Openers/followers, that's different again.

Please elaborate. There's too much intrigue in that statement to leave us hanging.

Take Randy Jonson, 97, HAS01, SP, Arizona Diamond Backs 2001.
Starting pitcher stuff: 122
Reliever stuff: 128
Make sure player is set to RP while the card is listed in starting rotation.
In strategy settings set pitch limit to say 20-25????
Adjust after first opener start if needed.
You should allow for your opener to pitch the first couple of innings.
Again, adjust as needed.

You need to have good bullpen, and let them share the work.

How do you narrow down which guys to use in the bullpen? I got rid of my lefty specialist because no point in a roster spot for 15 innings/year. But the rest of bullpen is actually pretty great. They all have a K/9 above 10, ERA below 3.8, FIP below 4 (and most below 3), and ERA+ well above 124 each. However, only 3 of them have STA above 39, so obviously I want to keep those guys, but how do I narrow down the rest? I honestly have stared at my bullpen for hours and can't decide which ones should go. They are all so crucial to my 2nd-place record right now.

What do you guys do to slim your bullpen down to less than 6

Can't help you there. I'm still running a 7-man pen, though only a 4-man rotation.

We're 71-62, 6 games below Pythag but 3 games up in our division. Our pitching is first overall in pretty much everything, except walks (3rd - 387) and strikeouts (13th - 925). Our offense is last in runs scored, though 4th in BA and 8th in hits. But we're 13th in walks and so are pretty reliant on good BABIP to get runners around the bases.

EDIT: I gave up on my Otis Nixon experiment mid-season, going back to Paul Waner.

With 10 games left, the Sidewinders have a 33% chance of making the diamond league playoffs. Carried by pitching and defense, we've definitely got a shot. Phil Niekro worked out, and while Wilbur Wood has been eh..., we lead the league in hits allowed and opponents batting average despite being 4th in defensive efficiency (Jose Altuve didn't hit enough to make up for his lousy D, so he's back to just DH/PH duties). Good luck to anyone else left in the chase!

As for cycling relief pitchers out, either I have a guy who I know is definite upgrade, or I just wait for them to hit a cold patch. I'd rather delay implementing a strategy if I'm winning mid season, usually feels like you're rolling the dice because your new acquisition could have a cold start, vs. the performance you're already seeing.

Got knocked out 3-2 in the Division Series to the eventual champions. We allowed 560 runs this season while scoring 690 but still definitely need an offensive upgrade or two to be competitive if we make it back to perfect one of these days.

Pulled a few golds in my packs but nothing that will upgrade the team.
