Your 25 man roster

I was curious how most of you construct your roster. I normally have a total of 12 pitchers but was curious if any of you do 11 another or does that put too much work on your bullpen? I'm the Giants and have a good staff.

I think what Orcin was asking was what year are you referring to in history when you ask your question. The 25 man breakdown will vary throughout the eras. It will also vary throughout the season as to the needs of the team per the manager. There is no "right" answer.

I prefer having 2 long men out of the pen, so I prefer to carry 12 pitchers. But I have to have at least 1 utility guy that can play both the IF & OF.

5 SP
7 RP (I hate designating closers. Don't really believe in the closer role but unfortunately sinceI like playing GM only someone has to end up picked lol)

2 C
6 IF
5 OF

I'd say 90% of the time this is what I roll with. I prefer the 6th infielder to be someone who can ALSO play some outfield, although it's not like I'll keep an inferior player just because of that. Just like as much flexibility as I can get.

But depending on the way the schedule sets up and my depth at certain positions, I have no problem changing this up. I've gone 7 IF and 4 OF before. But in that case, the 7th IF HAS to be able to play some OF. I also have no problem cutting a bench player and going with an extra pen arm if I have an abundance of arms. Only problem there is finding enough innings for everyone, more than likely I'll look to trade a reliever if that happens.

Starting catcher
Backup catcher / starting 1B/DH (weak glove, strong bat catcher, preferably at 1st)
Platoon starting lefty 1B/DH, backup/platoon starting/pinch hitting righty 1B/DH
IF/IF/lefty platoon starter IF, righty backup/platoon starter IF. Enough positional flexibilty to cover any one of the starting IF going down.

OF/OF/lefty platoon starter OF, righty backup/platoon OF. Again so that any one injury lets the 3 others play all 3 positions.

Backup IF/OF needs to include one capable PR.

12 position players.

5 starters, 1 CL, 1-2 setup, 2-4 MR, 1-2 LR, 7 RP in total, closer included. One of the relievers is a possible spot starter.

12 pitchers

One utility slot: Either another C, an IF/OF to beef up when one is day to day/ short term injured, or a 13th pitcher, especially following a long bullpen outing. Or one dedicated, fast af PR if both everyone is healthy and BP is rested.

That means, 4/5 days my starting catcher is starting, 1/5 he is replaced by the bat first catcher while the backup 1B/DH slots into the lineup.

Bat of the bat first catcher with only occasional catching should be in the lineup 162 games, while I still use his catching ability.

1B/DH doesn't need much rest, but a backup 1B/DH is also a strong PH.

Other position platooning means my bench guys do something productive, while my starters get occasional rest. And if a starter goes down, a righty backup is on hand.
