Here are a couple I think would be good:
Bob Costas - he geniuinely cares for the game. George W. Bush - as much as I disagree with his politics, I think he would make a solid commissioner.

^ Good call on George Will, LL. Another guy whose politics are very different from my own, but a smart, deliberate guy who loves the game. His being a Cubs fan helps too.

Very Nice! Actually I've never been in that area but I LOVE the Northern League and couldn't pass up an opportunity to take a related team.

As for future commish candidates, I gotta agree with jgross. Bush would make a great comissioner. He knows the game, he loves the game, and the weight of being an ex-president would be wonderful for his chances of getting things done while in office. While he was running the Rangers, he proved himself adept in all the PR areas where Bud has proven himself inept. He'll still be reasonably young when he leaves office, he had interest in the job before, and it'd certainly be a job which wouldn't be an embarassment to the legacy of a president. So it's not a completely ridiculous idea. -Spielman |

1. Costas
2. Costas 3. Will 4. Costas 5. Curt Smith -- I mean, if Will, why not Smith...though I'd give Will the nod, only by a short margin. (and like JGross, these are both guys whose national politics are not my own, but whose 'baseball politics' are on the button) 4. Herzog

Neither Will or Costas- both would try to much to influence it in their own perverse ways, be it Costas' definition of more fan friendlyness or Will's somewhat archaic views on society in general, especially regarding baseball. I think Sandy Alderson is probably the best choice- a good, intelligent guy (Beane's mentor and predecessor in Oakland) with significant baseball experience.

I wouldn't mind Costas or Alderson.... but I really like the idea of Will. Don't agree with his politics much, but I think he'd be perfect for the game.
