CNN: Bonds was a habitual, knowing steroid abuser.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...x.html?cnn=yes

Quote:
Beginning in 1998 with injections in his buttocks of Winstrol, a powerful steroid, Barry Bonds took a wide array of performance-enhancing drugs over at least five seasons in a massive doping regimen that grew more sophisticated as the years went on, according to Game of Shadows, a book written by two San Francisco Chronicle reporters at the forefront of reporting on the BALCO steroid distribution scandal.
Quote:
For instance, the authors write that by 2001, when Bonds broke Mark McGwire's single-season home-run record (70) by belting 73, Bonds was using two designer steroids referred to as the Cream and the Clear, as well as insulin, human growth hormone, testosterone decanoate (a fast-acting steroid known as Mexican beans) and trenbolone, a steroid created to improve the muscle quality of cattle.
Quote:
According to the book, Bonds gulped as many as 20 pills at a time and was so deeply reliant on his regimen that he ordered Anderson to start "cycles" -- a prescribed period of steroid use lasting about three weeks -- even when he was not due to begin one. Steroid users typically stop usage for a week or two periodically to allow the body to continue to produce natural testosterone; otherwise, such production diminishes or ceases with the continued introduction of synthetic forms of the muscle-building hormone.

Bonds called for the re-starting of cycles when he felt his energy and power start to drop. If Anderson told Bonds he was not due for another cycle, the authors write, Bonds would tell him, "F--- off, I'll do it myself.''

They're also reporters. Why wouldn't we believe them? Let's face it, we've all been expecting and waiting for this report/book for years now.

If this is true, he has to retire, like, now. Talk about having the worst offenses revealed.

Fair enough, but that's less important than whether or not what they're saying is true. If it is, then, well, Barry is screwed. If it's not, then the authors are screwed.

Or they'll pass it off as a memoir and get away with libel.

That is, if Barry is really clean

Considering they're SF Chronicle Reporters who spent 15 months researching and writing this, I'm gonna guess they didn't make it up. We'll have to read the book for specifics, but we'll know soon enough if this is legit.

Seems like their sources are a bunch of legally-obtained documents and depositions about the BALCO case and MLB and steroids in general.

dola.

ah:

"The authors compiled the information over a two-year investigation that included, but was not limited to, court documents, affidavits filed by BALCO investigators, confidential memoranda of federal agents (including statements made to them by athletes and trainers), grand jury testimony, audiotapes and interviews with more than 200 sources."

Wouldn't it be something if the Giants just cut him?

My question is this:

Why did this not come out BEFORE we was sent to break Ruth and Aaron? Sounds to me like people are trying to keep old records intact.

On the other hand (as I have to play Devil's Advocate) if you look at Bonds ten years ago or more when he was with the Pirates, he was thin, and small, and was not nearly the size he is now. What does that tell you?

Frankly, no one will ever know as long as he is not seen for drug testing.

Draw your own conclusions. I am not for or against the possibility that he did drugs because I think there needs to be more evidence.

Well, I've withheld judgement up to now, but this seems pretty damning.

Betcha there's a clause they could blanket steroid use under, and void his contract.

dola,

I wonder what it would take for the Giants fans to finally reject this guy. I mean, if this is true, is this not enough? If he hits #714 and 715 at home, are his fans still going to cheer him?
