Who should I vote for in my league's 1978 AL Cy Young race? I've got 5 of the best pitchers in Rangers history on the same team. Fergie Jenkins and Nolan Ryan have won 1 Cy, and Bert Blyleven has won 2 Cy's. One of Bert's was undeserved, so I kind of want someone else to win.

Blyleven was tops for WAR in the league, Ryan was tops for strikeouts, Perry/Matlack were tops for wins, and Perry was tops for innings pitched. Some doob on the Twins named Dave Goltz was tops for ERA, but he wasn't that far ahead of Perry and we don't care about him.

Any of the first 3

Perry is a bit behind in both performance and in volume.
Ryan is there in performance, but short in volume

Did you mean Jenkins was behind in performance and volume? Perry had the most innings pitched in the league.

I voted for Gaylord Perry, and the AI voters seemed to agree (or at least were influenced enough by me) and he won. I was happy because he hadn't won a Cy Young yet in my universe, and he won it at a mere 40 years old!

Now Matlack is the only one without a Cy (he was screwed a couple times on the Mets in the NL). The voters don't seem to like him... he wasn't even in the running this time. Judging by his stats, he seemed to get a bit unlucky with sequencing.

Sorry for hijacking this topic, but I figure I didn't want to start a new thread, and my query was very related.

For some reason I would go with Dan Nielson

Easy decision for me ... Perry

it may give a precise answer, but it's only moderately accurate, lol. i'd trust ootp's overall before i trust WAR, lol.
Pooping on WAR doesn't seem very hygienic.
