Curious as to settings. Seems like you have players debut with their pro team. Any trades, either AI or historical? How about Adjust/Weaken settings, and Recalc? No rush...

-Yes, players debut with the team they debuted with.
-Trades are on IA, although I haven't seen many I will mention it if it is noteworthy.
-Recalc is based on real stats after each season.
-League strategies and financials are adjusted after each season.
-10/5 rule is on.
-Expansion happens as it did in real life

I sim everyday I get some time, for as long as I can

On December 1, 1964, Houston announced the name change from Colt .45s to Astros

The renamed "Astros" will move into their new domed stadium, the Astrodome, in 1965. The Reds make their 2nd straight trip the to World Series and will go against the Yankees, their 9th appearance in the last 12 seasons. The Reds dominate winning in 5 games. Jimmy Wynn is Series MVP with 10 hits, 2 of them HR's.

AL MVP and Cy Young
Indians Sam McDowell repeats as Cy Young and adds MVP to his credits. McDowell goes 19-7 with an ERA of 1.69 and 309 strikeouts.
AL ROY 19 year old Twins 2B Rod Carew .306/4/49/36 SB's

NL MVP and Cy Young
In a pitching dominated season the Dodgers Sandy Koufax duplicates McDowell's performance by repeating as Cy Young and winning the MVP. Koufax goes 19-3, ERA 1.48 and 321 K's.
NL ROY If the Dodgers didn't have enough pitching with Koufax and Drysdale winning the last 5 Cy Young Awards, LA's Don Sutton is the NL rookie of the year 16-9 ERA 2.43

New York Mets OF Bill Virdon hits for the cycle for the 2nd time in his career, both came with expansion teams Senators and the Mets.

The season sees 3 no-hitters
Baltimore's Mike Cuellar throws one against the Tigers 5/9/65
Sandy Koufax no no's the Astros 9/10/65 ( amazingly this no-hitter comes just 1 day after he threw a Perfect game in real life MLB 9/9/65)
And in the Astrodome Larry Dierker throws the first Perfect game in the Majors since 1922 against the Cardinals. 7/21/65

Koufax and McDowell both win pitching's Triple Crown (Wins-ERA-K's)

June 15, 1965 Willie Mays hits his 500th career Home Run

Harmon Killebrew is traded again in the off season, this time to the Inidans.

The Milwaukee Braves make the move to Atlanta for the 1966 season after 13 seasons in Milwaukee. Braves 3B Eddie Matthews will become the only Braves player to play in 3 different cities for the Braves, in Boston, Milwaukee and now Atlanta.

Hall of Fame Inductee Hal Newhouser played 20 seasons with Detroit. 7 All Star seasons and 2 MVP Awards in 1944-45 and a Cy Young in 1946. He pitched in 560 ML games with a career ERA of 3.11.

20 Years Review 1946-1965

I thought I would just give a review of the first 20 years of the sim history. A little about some of the games stars and the up and coming young players.

Two of the Biggest stars had to be Ted Williams and Mickey Mantle as they won 13 of the 20 MVP's in the AL.
Williams dominated the 40's and 50's with 15 All Star selections and 4 MVP Awards. He played 20 seasons with the Red Sox.

Mantle joined the Yankees in 1950 and only trails Babe Ruth as he currently has 590 career HR's at age 34. He has 9 MVP Awards and 15 All Star game appearances.

Only 3 players in the NL had won multiple MVP awards, Duke Snider (3), Ernie Banks (2) and Willie Mays (2).

Snider played all 17 seasons with the Dodgers and retired after the 1963 season with 481 HR's.

Mr. Cub Ernie Banks will begin his 14th season with he Cubs, ROY, 10 time AS and 6 Gold Gloves.

Willie Mays 14 AS selections in 15 seasons with the Giants. His 521 HR's rank him 5th All Time. He has also won 8 straight Gold Gloves (9 overall)5.

The Dodgers dominating the pitching stats as their pitchers won 10 of the 20 Cy Young Awards, including the last. With Koufax, Drysdale and now Sutton LA looks to be a dominate pitching force into the last 60's.

14 different pitchers have won the honor in the AL with nobody winning more than twice.

Here is a look at some of the accomplishments of some of the games biggest stars that are still active

Hank Aaron (31) 14 seasons with the Braves .318/418/1277
Brooks Robinson (28) 8 seasons with the Orioles .307/6 Gold Gloves
Carl Yastrzemski (26) 7 seasons with Boston .300/95/484 All Star (3)
Billy Williams (27) 8 seasons with the Cubs .307/198/710
Frank Robinson (30) 13 seasons with the Reds .309/391/1188
Harmon Killebrew (29) 4 seasons with Washington, 2 1/2 with Minnesota, 2 1/ with SF and just traded prior to the 1966 season to Cleveland .262/304/772 ROY and MVP
Al Kaline (31) 12 seasons with the Tigers .297/210/852 ROY 5 time AS
Sandy Koufax (30) 11 seasons with the Dodgers 157-61 ERA 2.18 Two 300+ strikeout seasons. Koufax retired in real life after the 1966 season, can't wait to see what happens the rest of his career'
Roberto Clemente (31) 11 seasons with the Dodgers (seems odd) .322/103/631 ROY, WS MVP and 3 Gold Gloves

The Reds win their 3rd straight NL title and again by a wide margin, 111-51 record 17 games better than the 2nd place Dodgers. The Red Sox return to the Series, the first time since 1946 (1st season of my sim).

And just like 1946 the Red Sox win it all as they defeat the Reds in 6 games. Rico Petrocelli is named Series MVP he has 10 hits, 2 HR's and drives in 12 runs which ties a World Series record.

AL MVP Boston's LF Carl Yastrzemski wins his 1st MVP at age 27. Yaz hits .342 with 33 HR's and 112 RBI's.
AL Cy Young Indians Sam McDowell continues his dominance over AL hitters winning his 3rd straight CY Young and he is only 24 years old. 18-7, ERA 2.09 and 237 K's
AL ROY White Sox 1B Gail Hopkins .288/5/39

NL MVP and NL Cy Young
It's pitching supreme again, this time its Reds pitcher Jim AMloney capturing both trophies. 19-7 ERA 1.99 and 245 K's. In his 5 full seasons with the Reds he has put up the following win totals 18-19-17-19-19.
NL ROY Gary Nolan another Reds ace 18-7 ERA 2.96

22 year old Jim Merritt of the Twins no-hits the Indians on July 4th. He is injured in his next start and misses the rest of the season.

Frank Robinson hits HR #400 at age 31

Mantle (598) and Mays (543) now sit 2-3 on All Time HR list

2 Hall of Fame Inductees and they are good ones.
Ted Williams one of the great hitters of our time enters the Hall with amazing stats.
20 Seasons, all with the Boston Red Sox
15-time All Star, 4 MVP's,
.342 lifetime average #8 All Time
2,954 hits #12 All time
527 Home Runs #5 All Time
1,831 RBI's #8 All Time
2033 BB's #2 All Time
1,859 runs scored #7 All Time
1.065 OPS #3 All Time

So what did the '65-'66 Dodgers lineup look like? I'm guess that unless AI trades happened, it's something like:

c - Roseboro
1b- Parker, Fairly
2b- Lefebvre
ss- Wills
3b- Hoak, Zimmer, McMullen, Tracewski? (or maybe T Davis)
of- gotta figure that it's pretty crowded, with Howard and Clemente starters, and T Davis (if not at 3b), W Davis, Demeter and Fairly/Parker scrapping for playing time.

Am I close?

I'm guessing the rotation was solid with Sandy, Big D, Stottlemyre, and with Sutton just arriving? And maybe Richert. If so, I'm surprised the Dodgers weren't a factor in your sim in either of those years...

Oh, and how did The Singer Throwing Machine end up on the Reds?

This season was so much more than the 2 League winners, the Boston Red Sox make a return trip to the World Series and are joined by the Pittsburgh Pirates, their first visit since they won the 1925 World Series. The Red Sox sweep the Bucs and record their 2nd straight Championship.

Why this season was more than the Boston-Pirates World Series you ask? The New York Yankees had not had a losing season since 1925, that comes to an end as they finish in 7th place going 76-86. Meanwhile in Los Angeles the Dodgers had not went through a losing season since 1944, that also ends as they finish the season in 6th place 75-87.

The New York Mets finished their 6th season, the first 5 were, well not very good. The loses the first 5 seasons were 119-117-112-105-114, all last places finishes, never closer than 47 games out. But, here come the Mets as they finish the 1967 season in 5th place 83-79.

AL MVP Rico Petrocelli gets Boston its 2nd MVP in a row hitting .283/38/112
AL Cy Young Sam McDowell continues his dominance, becoming the 1st pitcher to win the award 4 straight seasons 18-8 ERA 1.70 with 271 K's
AL ROY Baltimore OF Merv Rettenmund .241/11/49

NL MVP and Cy Young
For the 3rd straight season a pitcher wins both awards as the Cardinals Bob Gibson has one of the greatest performances in quite some time going 26-4 with a 1.37 ERA. The ERA was the lowest since Walter Johnson in 1918, the win total was the best since Bucky Walters in 1939.
NL ROY Pittsburgh CF Bobby Tolan .292/9/38 and 18 SB's

On May 2, 1967 Mickey Mantle becomes the 2nd player in history to record 600 Home Runs, he ends the season with 625. On September 3rd he gets his 3,000 Major League hit!!!

On 8/30/67 Sandy Koufax strikes out his 3,000th batter, he trails only Walter Johnson All Time.

The Cardinals trade C Tim McCarver to the Cubs for SP Jim Colburn and OF Johnny Callison

Last years AL ROY Rod Carew hits .343 in his 2nd season.

20 year old Nolan Ryan wins his first 4 Major League starts

There were an amazing 6 no-hitters in 1967.
35 year old Angels Lawrence Westervelt blanks Boston
The Twins 22 year old righty Dave Boswell no-hits Cleveland
Sam McDowell, Dean Chance and Gerry Arrigo all no-hit the California Angels
And Reds pitcher Bill Singer throws 2 no-hitters one on May 19 vs the Phillies and another one 30 days later against the Dodgers.

Stan Musial played 21 seasons, 19 of them for the Cardinals and he is elected to the 1967 Hall of Fame with the highest vote % in history as he receives 99.6% of the votes. 14 AS games, 2 MVP's and 1 Gold Glove and a .327 average. His 3,586 base hits, 10,962 AB's and 2,962 games played rank 2nd All Time behind Ty Cobb.

Hall of Famer Robin Roberts pitched 15 seasons for Philadelphia winning .223 games with a 3.11 ERA. 6 time All Star, 2 time Cy Young winner.

The Kansas City Athletics become the next team to move out West as Owner Charlie Finley moves the team to Oakland for the 1968 season.

No retire, players are start with the team that they started their career with but, their career ends when the sim ends it, not according to real life. I am watching the Koufax career closely myself as well as Mantle and a few others. Thanks for the feedback!

1969 Major League Baseball Expansion

I felt this was such a big moment in ML history that it needed its own thread.

The 1969 Major League Baseball expansion resulted in the establishment of expansion franchises in Kansas City and Seattle in the American League and in Montreal and San Diego in the National League of Major League Baseball. The Kansas City Royals, Montreal Expos, San Diego Padres, and Seattle Pilots will begin play in the 1969 Major League Baseball season.

One of the reasons for expansion was increasing pressure to maintain the sport as the US national pastime, particularly because of the increasing popularity of professional football.

As a result of expansion, the American and National Leagues reorganized. Each league was split into two divisions, forming the American League East, American League West, National League East, and National League West.

The order of the expansion draft picks went in the following order. Royals, Padres, Pilots then Expos.

Kansas City notable picks
9 Time AL MVP Mickey Mantle, Ron Fairly, Sparky Lyle, Eddie Matthews
Free agent signings
Johnny Roseboro

San Diego notable picks
1968 AL ROY Tony Horton, Reds Tommy Harper, Yankees Clete Boyer and Tom Tresh, Cubs Randy Hundley

Seattle's notables
Reds Jim Maloney, Milt Pappas, Tito Francona

Montreal's notables
Vada Pinson, Bill Mazeroski, Roger Maris, Johnny Romano

1969

In the first year of Divisional play the Red Sox, Twins, Pirates and Dodgers are division winners. The Pirates sweep the Dodgers holding LA to 5 runs in the series. The Twins win the first 3 games, but Boston comes back to win 3 straight before the Twins take it in 7.

For the Pirates, 3rd time is a charm as they defeat the Twins in 6 games, the Pirates were shutout in games 1 and 2, but took 4 straight to win their first Championship in 44 seasons. Pirates 1B Bob Bailey was named Series MVP.

AL MVP 23 year old Oakland RF Reggie Jackson .298/43/123
AL Cy Young Twins 25 yeard old lefty Rudy May 24-5 ERA 2.25
AL ROY Oakland LF Darrel Evans .344/23/98

NL MVP and Cy Young Award
New York Mets Tom Seaver went 19-7 with a 1.86 ERA and 260 strikeouts.
NL ROY Pirates 3B Richie Hebner .280/18/80

June 20th Expos trade Bill Mazeroski to the Royals.

4 No-Hitters
Padres Harry Coe no-hits the Cubs
The Padres are then no-hit twice, once by Pirates Bob Moose and also by LA's Mike Kekich
19 year old rookie Doug Bird who went 6-19 for the season blanks the Seattle Pilots

Oakland's Catfish Hunter goes 25-5, only the 2nd pitcher to win 25 games in 60 seasons.

A Year of Milestones
April 8, 1969 Willie Mays records hit #3,000
On May 11 Hank Aaron joins the 3,000 hit club and on June 6th hits Home Run #500
Sandy Koufax becomes baseballs All Time Strikeout Leader as he passes Walter Johnson and ends the seasons with 3.590

Boston's Wilbur Wood becomes the first closer to record over 30 saves in a season and finishes with 33.

On July 2nd Mickey Mantle is traded back to New York, but this time he is playing for the Mets. The Mets then deal him in the off season to the Angels.

Stadium and cash issues forced the sale of the Seattle Pilots, as the team finished 40-122 and a team headed by Bud Selig bought and moved them to Milwaukee to become the Brewers. The other AL expansion Royals finished 58-104. The Padres and Expos both finished last in their divisions. The Expos 57-105 and the Padres one game better at 58-104.

Yankee great Yogi Berra is inducted into the Hall of Fame. Yogi played 19 seasons in New York. An 11 time All Star, won 6 Championships with the Yankees and had 4 Gold Gloves. He holds post season records for games played 64, At Bats 245 and hits 66.

1970's

As we start the 70's the game is starting to change. New stars emerge, some great pitchers and some new sluggers will make their mark during the 70's. Also we will say goodbye to some of the all time greats of the game. Ok back to the game itself.

Boston wins the AL East and Oakland win the West as the A's get their first division title in just their 3rd season in Oakland. In the NL The Phillies win 20 of their final 28 games to get past the Cubs and Mets to win the East. The West was even more interesting as the Braves and Dodgers tie and the Braves win the one game playoff to capture the division title.

The Red Sox win the AL title in a series dominated by pitching as there were 4 shutouts in the 5 game series. In the NL the Phillies stayed hot and swept the Braves.

The Red Sox take their 4 World Series title in 5 seasons as the beat the Phillies in 6 games. The Phillies won games one and two by scores of 10-1 and 1-0, but Boston wins 4 straight as Tony Conigliaro is the Series MVP.

AL MVP and Cy Young Awards
Oakland's left-handed 21 year old Vida Blue has an outstanding season as he goes 25-4 with a 1.65 ERA and 286 strikeouts.
AL ROY Washington Senators SS Bill Madlock .279/14/80

NL MVP and Cy Young Awards
Mets pitcher Tom Seaver becomes the first player to win the MVP and CY Young Award twice in the same season. Tom Terrific almost duplicates his last season going 19-6 ERA 2.07.
NL ROY Astros CF Cesar Cedeno .314/25/113 with 54 SB's

Cleveland's Sam McDowell equals Sandy Koufax record of 18 strikeouts in a game. He also throws 1970's only no-hitter against the White Sox, the 2nd of his career.

On May 16th Willie Mays becomes the 3rd member of the 600 Home Run club joining Babe Ruth and Mickey Mantle. Mays ends the season with 622 career dingers.

Hoyt Wilhelm moves into 2nd place All Time behind Cy Young in games pitched with 804 and retires after 20 big league seasons at the age of 47.

Mickey Mantle ends the 1970 season tied with Ty Cobb in games played at 3,035.

No players inducted into the HOF.

Let's take a look at the financial side as we head into the 70's

Top 5 Team Payrolls
Oakland $4,074,035
Pittsburgh $3,970,549
Minnesota $3,883,610
Boston $3,540,115
Atlanta $3,437,078

Top 5 Highest Paid Players
Darrell Evans (OAK) $330,379
Richie Hebner (PIT) $310,285
Billy Williams (Cubs) $309,202
Johnny Bench (CIN) $308,361

The Yankees edge the Red Sox by 1 game to win the AL East. Much easier for Oakland as they win 109 games and the division by 18 games over Minnesota. The New York Mets after 3 straight 2nd place finishes finally get their first division title, as does the Houston Astros as they win the West Division.

The Yankees upset the favored A's as they win it in 5 games. And the Astros also upset the Mets also in 5 games dashing the hopes of a first all New York Series.

Yankee experience dominates the Astros as they win their 17th Championship in a 4 game sweep.

AL MVP Reggie Jackson wins his 2nd MVP in 3 seasons with 41 HR's, 105 RBI's and hit .315
AL Cy Young Vida Blue wins his 2nd straight with another outstanding season 21-3 ERA 1.90
AL ROY K Royals Steve Busby 10-13 ERA 2.79

NL MVP and Cy Young Awards
Another Mets pitcher, but not Seaver as Nolan Ryan wins both awards. The Ryan Express goes 25-6 with a 1.90 ERA and 323 strikeouts.
NL ROY Phillies 3b Mike Schmidt .237/34/94

2 Relatively unknowns toss no-hitters
Astros Roric Harrison no-hits the Braves and Montreal's Jim Willoughby blanks the Mets

On June 29th Dodgers future HOF'er Sandy Koufax notches his 4,000 strikeout. At age 35 strikes out 294 batters and now has 4,153 for his career. 1971 marked only the 2nd time with a 20 win season, Koufax had won 19 games 5 times. He has led the league in strikeouts 12 times.

September 18th #500 Home Run sailed over the fence for Cincinnati's Frank Robinson, he ended the season at 503. He becomes the 8th member of the 500 HR Club.

Willie Mays passes Ty Cobb and becomes the All Time Leader in Total Bases with 5,977.

Johnny Antonelli pitched 13 seasons or the Braves and his final 2 seasons for the expansion LA Angels. A 6 time All Sar he finished in the top 3 of Cy Young voting 3 times. He is our 1971 HOF inductee.
