Firing Head Coach?

PtG. I'm in the preseason. I went to fire my head coach but the option for ACTIONS in his menu is grayed out? Are you not able to fire your head coach when acting as GM only?

You can, but I believe that you can only do so at certain periods, where he's been performing badly or the owner thinks it would be justified to fire him. The owner won't let you fire the coach anytime for any reason.

At least I'm pretty sure that how I saw Jeff or Sebastian explain this somewhere

Okay. Cant find any reference to that looking through the manual.. It just stays that coaches etc can be fired for many invalid reasons citing the Ftorek firing at the hands of Lou back in the 2000's.

Currently, I have the expectation of being part of the playoff race. I'm 4-9-0, I'm third from the bottom of the conference, and I've been outscored 18-5 in the last three games, yet I'm not able to part ways with Hynes.

That's an interesting idea. But I would recommend a tool tip or something explaining "Owner will not allow coach to be fired at this time" or something like that. Just so we know what's going on.

Also if we've just started a career we should be able to fire the coach. Often the new boss wants to bring in his own guy.

Agreed..

Its currently December 23. My Devils are 13-17-3 with the 5th worst record in the league. Expectation is still "Playoff Race" and my Job Security is still like 90%. Harris has a patience of 9.

Still can't fire Hynes.

Also I find it interesting that my Offensive Preference is listed as "Very Defensive" yet for my coaching stats I have an Offensive Skills rating of 13, and a Defensive Skills rating of 5...

Made it to February 1. I'm now 19-28-4 but Josh Harris is calling this season a "great success." I still cant fire Hynes. I'm starting to wonder if this is some sort of bug. Is that a possibility?

Okay so it seems to be a bug. I started another save and here is what I found:

1. Initially, when I would "right click" on Hynes it would take me to his profile page. Once I right clicked on one of my assistants, and THEN on Hynes, I got the "Release Head Coach" option. When I clicked it though, it told me that Harris said that Hynes could not be fired.

2. I went back to my other save (28-39-5) and the option is now there as well, in the same manner, with the same result.

I dont know if anyone else has experienced it, but like I said, I havent reproduced it since those two occasions. Now I'm just trying to figure out how bad I need to be to be able to fire my coach.

Often times when a team hires a new GM, that new GM usually brings in his own staff inc coach (housecleaning). In theory when you start PtG and take control of a team, you're a new GM that is just hired to the organization and thus within the first week or so you should have the option to bring in your own staff inc head coach w/o the owner intervening.
