Getting historic rookies in subsequent years
This post offers a tentative answer to a couple of lingering questions from a discussion labeled "Hammering Hank..."
That thread was about some conditions possibly affecting our ability to get real players in the amateur draft if we play beyond one season.
Bottom line: apparently all is OK if you have bought the subsequent season at any time before the top prospects are announced (i.e. before about Oct. 1 in the inaugural season, and presumably by early spring thereafter).
I started the 1969 season, changing all the league names and cities. I bought the 1970 season before opening day. Around October 1, I hit "finish the week" and got a brief message about the program doing something with a database -- sorry, I wasn't paying much attention to the wording -- and then in the mail came the list of top prospects.
For as long as I continue this team, I plan to buy the subsequent season before Dec. 31 of each year.
