"Wait til Next Year!"
Thank you for doing and reporting that. I'll be interested in what happens in 1969, when MLB expands.
If you still get 108 players, I wonder if the effect on weak teams (presumably fewer draftees) will be significant. I would guess not, but I am not good at guessing. |

I started a league in 1903 as well and am playing through it at a slower pace. I'm up to 1908 with the NY Giants, a team blessed with some terrific talent - Honus Wagner, Mike Donlin, Jimmy Sebring, Tris Speaker... and a rotation that features Christy Mathewson, Mordecai Brown, Deacon Phillippe and Joe McGinnity.
I bought all the seasons in one go and it's all historical names that I can see. Each year I see the familiar names from the HoF getting drafted; Cobb, Johnson, Eddie Collins (who amusing is called Eddie Collins Sr even at the age of 18...) I'm planning to tank in 1913 to win the 'Ruth' draft pick I haven't spotted any major historical deviations, although Cy Young retired in 1906 with 'only' 385 wins. Obviously I'm locked in to a 140 game schedule, with no expansion (game limitation), so come 1962 etc, it will be interesting seeing how many real-life major-leaguer spend their career in the minors because of the fewers roster places available. What about subsequent drafts?
So let's say you start in 1903, buy all the subsequent seasons, and sim past MLB expansion in 1969.
I'm curious about how many rounds of amateur drafts there would be in 1970 and afterwards-- do we get the full number of available amateurs (even though there are still only 16 teams), or is that pool reduced. I.e., does the game make adjustments (perhaps by being coded to provide X available amateurs in the pool per team) or simply make available the next year's amateurs. |

I'm almost there, give me a day or two and I will let you know. I will do the same thing, start a new league and sim to the draft & compare the number of players available. |

I was further along than I thought. I completed the 1969 season and on 11/1/69 there were 140 players available for draft. I started a new game in 1969 and on 11/1/69 there 140 players available. So it seems the pool doesn't shrink. As a side note the Orioles beat the Pirates 4-2 in WS. The amazin' Mets finished 3rd 8.5 games back. |
