GM Can not initiate trades
I was wondering if anyone can help me out with an issue I'm having on a new online league I started with a friend.
We're both new to the game, so I'm thinking one of us is missing something simple, but I'm acting as commissioner so I'm starting with the assumption that it's on my end. We're two weeks into the season, and when my friend tries to make a trade he is told he is not the commissioner and not authorized to trade. On my end I have already checked the option box for "Enable trading". Is there something else I need to do? Obviously all human owners should be able to initiate a trade without the help of the commissioner right? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks. |

Human owners cannot and should not be able to initiate trades.
If you set this league up and made yourself Commish, then only you can process trades. Sims are only run on the Commish's computer, therefore it makes sense that only the Commish can action trades. Otherwise files won't match up during imports and you'll have more problems. Enable Trading only means that trading is possible in your league. If you disable it, then there will be no trading at all in your league. |

Thanks for the information Bluenoser.
As a newcomer to the game I'm not sure how the online version works. I understand what you're saying about files not matching up. But I guess I'm just a little surprised to find out that my friend can't make a trade with a non-human team and have that data simply be reflected in his export, which I would then import before simming any games. It's not a big deal, just a bit of a surprise because as far as competing against one another goes he's always got to tip his hand to me in regards to what kind of deals he's working on. Thanks again for getting back to me though. Last edited by Cheddarhead; 05-22-2012 at 07:12 PM. |

Think of the Commish file as the Master, if that helps you to understand it any better.
I'm not sure how he's tipping his hand since you won't know anything until the trade is complete. Online leagues work like that, a couple of owners will have discussions, come to an agreement, then post their trade to the forum where the Commish will action it. The Commish has no advantage because he knows nothing about the deal until the owners have reached an agreement and informed the rest of the league by posting it to the league forum. |

Not sure what your free time is like, but you might consider joining one of the many online leagues available. It would give you some good insight into the workings of them and would be a gold mine of information.
You could also talk to one of the Commish's and just sort of follow along to see what goes on if you don't have the time to join one. The learning experience would be well worth it and I'm pretty sure your enjoyment of the game would increase as well. |
