Expansion with random MLB debut

I'm looking for feedback on this. My historical league is in 1980 right now with 26 teams. I am going to follow the historical expansion pattern (two in '93 and two in '98) to get to 30 and probably play that through 2019 and possibly 2020.

After that, I'd like to go immediately from 30 to 36 teams. The plan is to have 2 leagues with 3 6-team divisions, where teams play their division foes 18 times, the other 12 league foes 6 times and there is no interleague play.

With all of that said, would switching to random MLB debut before the 6-team expansion give me a draft that could sufficiently populate the 6 extra teams? I would really prefer not to roll out incremental expansion to get from 30 to 36 if I don't have to do that.

Question. You said this is a historical league that's currently in 1980 right now. When did you start this league? Did you use the historical wizard when creating it and did you import mlb history when setting it up?

I started in 1969. I used the historical wizard, but I did not import the complete history. I wanted to pretend MLB came into existence in 1969 with the introduction of divisional play.
