I don't understand the point of a hidden DH penalty as well. Since the DH is not in the field he should hit better?

Sorry man about the punctuation thing, there is also the thought that players become less focused as a DH. I have heard quotes from players who HATE being a DH - now I admit this goes back to the 80's since I disowned baseball after 1994, only recently ending the boycott.

In the best value DH thread there are links to research suggesting a 4-6% penalty in real life.
