non-roster invitee question
I have set up an 1871 league, done several preseason trades, tinkered with the active roster, put long term top prospects in AA, and reached opening day.
I just got an error message that my active roster has one non-roster invitee but I do not know what that means or how to fix it. I do not follow real world baseball much at all. One active player's name is all capital letters I traded for him). Five active players are not on 40-man list, and their transaction options do not include putting them there -- I guess because the list is full. I tried to take a marginal player off the 40-man list but it looks as if I would have to waive him to do that. Any suggestions? Thank you. |

In a 1871 league 40-man rosters and ST invites seem overdone. Didn't teams have 12-15 man rosters mostly?
No criticism intended.

Go to the transactions tab for your team. Select the 25 man roster. At the bottom of the page is a legend defining the symbols. I think an * means a player is on the 25 man. Find the player without an * an put them on the 40 man roster.
A non roster invite is a new option on OOTP. It means players that are not on the 40 man roster can be at ST. In real life this happens, in OOTP it did not until 16? maybe 15, I cannot remember. It is a relatively new option. Good luck, Tom

Thanks, Tom. I have five players on the active roster who are not on the 40-man Secondary Roster (no asterisks). None of my players on opening day seem to be movable out of or onto the 40-man roster -- when I right click and get "transaction" options, all I get are waive, designate, etc., nothing about the Secondary.
The error message says that all players on the active roster who are not on the 40-man secondary have to be demoted now -- but I would rather put them ON the Secondary. I do not want to demote them only to have to promote five not-ready players who are currently on the 40-man roster. Last edited by McGuiser; 11-24-2015 at 06:52 PM. Reason: add second paragraph |

You are not getting the option because the 40 man is full. You will need to remove players by waiving them and/or waive and designate for assignment.

No! Wait!
Does this mean I can actually lose the five that I waive, or waive and reassign? (Not sure of the difference) Arrrrgh! No loopholes, no workarounds?

You can lose them, there is the ultimate workaround... commissioner mode.
Within current baseball rules you are stuck.

Here is the workaround I selected
Not wanting to lose the five active roster players who were not on the 40-man roster, I traded away my five least promising 40-man roster players, who were in the minors. The players I got in return, of course, were not added to my 40-man roster. That allowed me to add the five problematic active roster players to the 40-man list.
Having the ability to "force trade," I could have simply undone the five trades, but chose not to. |
