how do you use Force Lineup Spot

how do you use Force Lineup Spot

I would like a player to come in a play first base vs L or R in the 8th inning of every game. Is that possible?

I set Force Start/use position at first.
Force Lineup Spot vs LHP as 8th

That didn't do anything. I now figure that 8th is line up spot.
Not sure how it forces a start

You can't do that, probably since nobody does that IRL. The closest you can do is set them as a defensive substitution and then use the defensive substitutions settings at the bottom of the global strategy page.

Thanks that is what I do.
Well I would just want to do it for training purposes.
And potentially helping with resting players.
Ensuring players get some playing time.

If there is a blowout and I am losing.. I should be able to let me starters go cry in the lockerroom.

If you're worried about your starters getting tired, you can set a backup to play every 5th or so game - that provides plenty of rest for the starters. DH excepted, because the DH doesn't get tired, so he will play more. However, as the OOTP guys have mentioned, the player in the DH slot get a small performance penalty to make up for this.

Letting players train in the last couple innings of a blowout, win or lose, is actually a really good idea. Not sure how difficult that would be to implement, though.

I've noticed (anecdotally) that having a backup catcher come in as a defensive replacement helps maintain and manage the tiredness of that difficult position. having this happen under even more circumstances could be advantageous.

I tried it ages ago. It seems that the AI ignores your defensive sub settings if the replacement is too inferior defensively.
