Earned Run Error?

This happens frequently. It's not this exact situation, but there are frequent unearned runs counted as earned runs, and vice versa.

One out, bases empty.

B2 - walk

B3:
B2 steals 2nd.
B3 reaches on error (E6, ground ball to 6), B2 scores on the error.

B4 - Fly out

B5 - ground out

That's an unearned run. Even if you assume B2 would have advanced to third on the 63 ground out, the fly out would have ended the inning without a run.

Does the game count that as an earned run?

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

I only know it counted it as an earned run in one game. I have seen other instances of the game miscounting an ER as UR or vice versa.

I would formally post that as a bug then.

From the sequence provided, the OP is correct that the run should not be counted as earned. What is happening, though, is that the game makes the earned/unearned distinction at the time the run is scored. The game does not go back and reconstruct the inning afterward to change earned to unearned or vice versa based on later outcomes. I think this is due to the database structure (it has to know NOW what the outcome was and can't change it later), but I could be wrong.

Actually, it does, now. Before if a runner advanced to third on a bad throw and scored on a WP it would be unearned even if the next hitter hit a HR. Now, you will see 2 ER added to the pitcher's total when the solo HR is hit, in that situation.

Marcus was able to correct the vast vast majority of ER/UR errors that were plentiful pre-patch v13. There are still some that happen, but nowhere near as many as before he addressed this.

I am not saying that the OP did not see a ER scoring error here, or at other times. I am saying that they are much less frequent than before. If the OP is using v13 without the final patch, he will see more incorrect ER scorings than in v 14.
