Request 26 T, 2 SL, 4 D (1980s MLB) shorter season
I'm looking for help on a short schedule for classic 1980s baseball - 26 Teams - 2 subleagues, one league of 14 teams with 2 divisions of 7 teams and one league of 12 teams with 2 divisions of 6 teams. (no interleague)
But as I said I'm trying to come up with something shorter than 162 games. I think 64 games could work: NL - 40 in division (8 x 5 opponents) + 24 other division (4 x 56 opponents) AL - 36 in division (6 x 6 opponents) + 28 other division (7 x 4 opponents) but not sure how to set it up. Doesn't have to be 64, but something around the 40-80 total would be great. |

Figuring not, but want an All-Star Break?
That 64 could work with at least almost all 3-game and 4-game series but with only like 3 offdays (ignoring a possible All-Star Break) across nearly 10 weeks. That is not many, but maybe for a short schedule is not much concern. At least that might be preferable to... How tied are you to playing each team in a division the same number of times? I was tinkering around with 62 games with...

All-Star Break of 3 days would be nice, but not essential.
I don't mind only 3 or 4 off days as it's a shorter schedule. I would prefer to playing the same number of games with each team in the division, but if it's not doable, that's ok. Would doing some 2 game series help at all? |

I have the 64 games with your per-opponent numbers pretty well settled. Some number of 2-game series - more on the NL side. All-Star Break about three-quarters way through. Pretty much every team has one doubleheader - that seems like a throwback to the 26-team MLB days.
