Page 4 Recap...
Welcome to the Dog Park, the home of the Hiram College Terriers. If you're new to my dynasty we're a F2P team and all acquisitions are made through pack openings. While being a pack only team can be frustrating at times, I was fortunate enough to make a few lucky card pulls when the team was in the entry pool. This has helped us to compete quite early as we've completed 6 seasons and already have 2 World Series wins. The only losing season was our very first one in the iron league. There are 3 Terriers that have been consistently fantastic for us.... SP Chris Sale 99- Chris has been a beast. He already has 1 Cy Young award, 3 All Stars, 5 Gold Gloves, and threw a no hitter. He almost had a second no hitter, but a 66 minute rain delay forced him out of the game. C Gabby Hartnett 90- Gabby's already accumulated 4 All Stars, 4 Gold Gloves, and 2 Silver Sluggers. Typically he bats clean up for the team. 3b Justin Turner 96- He's got 4 All Stars, 3 Silver Sluggers, and has 1 playoff MVP award. Here's the updated Terriers roster at the halfway point of our first season in the Silver leagues.... Starters: 99 Chris Sale 85 Lance McCullers Jr 85 Zack Wheeler 81 Charlie Morton 79 Ernie Broglio Bullpen: 84 Dave Righetti 79 Mychal Givens 78 Jimmy Sherfy 76 Seranthony Dominguez 76 Tanner Scott 74 Mark Melancon 72 Andrew Vazquez Lineup: C 90 Gabby Hartnett 1b 69 Wes Parker 2b 84 Sal Bando 3b 96 Justin Turner SS 66 Luis Aparicio LF 68 Jo Jo Moore CF 68 Ichiro Suzuki RF 66 Alex Johnson DH 69 Rod Carew Bench: C 70 Thurman Munson 2b 69 Eddie Mayo (platooning at first) 2b 59 Ildemaro Vargas (utility IF) RF 72 Max Kepler Currently we're the worst team in the league and unless things turn around quickly, we're going straight back to bronze with our tails tucked between our legs. I'm actually quite shocked and embarrassed by how unprepared the team was for silver league play. That's on me. Last edited by gemini615; 05-23-2019 at 04:33 PM. |

Heading into September all we have to do is play .500 ball and we'll be in the clear to stay in silver. The lesson learned is the Terriers can't bury themselves in April, May, and June. The holes we jumped in were meant for gnawed up bones.....not Terriers.

We were able to climb out of our bone hole so the Terriers will be staying in Silver for another season. The final record was 74-88 which was bad enough for 5th worst in the league but good enough to not get relegated. Considering how we started the season....I'll take it. No potential adoptions are planned before next season.

Nothing much to report from the Dog Park at the all star break. The Terriers sit at 47-50 but are only 4 games back of the division leader. Gabby Hartnett was the loudest barker and is being shipped off to the All Star festivities. Alex Johnson now has a 29 rating in RF, so by season's end he should be in the mid to upper thirties. I pulled a 82 Rhys Hoskins 1b card from a pack, but he's still sitting on my reserve roster and will probably be put up for adoption. I like my platoon at 1b between Eddie Mayo and Wes Parker, and since Hoskins is another one of those homerun or stikeout players, I'm not too worried about it. The only worry I have is Gabby Hartnett knocking over a trash can at the all star game and running around the infield with an old shoe in his mouth playing keep away. Let's hope he doesn't embarrass our ballclub with silly shenanigans like that.

The Terriers finished 77-85 after their second season in the silver leagues. I think it's pretty clear the competition has caught up to our lovable mutts and unless I can score some lucky pack openings, we're probably going to be here for awhile. This is one of the downfalls of being a F2P pack only team but one that I embrace. Everytime I rip a pack from this point forward......it's a big deal.

I dream of pulling some high end historicals! That would be wonderful. But you're right, 5 iron and 1 bronze dud are the norm around these parts lol

As I was walking through the Dog Park late last night, I noticed a paper bag half buried near the on deck circle. Inside was 1000 points from gold glove and silver slugger awards. Apparently one of the Terriers was trying to bury it but got sidetracked.
Regardless, I opened a pack and had some pretty decent pulls.... Schumacher will be my number 4 starter and pushes Zack Wheeler to the bullpen. Posey ( who is an 85 now....yay) will split time at first. Granny Hamner will be adopted soon, I just need to figure out what to do with him. Nothing is a huge upgrade but it's nice to finally pull more than 5 irons and a bronze bum. (Not to mention 2 cool historical cards) Adopted: SP Hal Schumacher 82 1b Buster Posey 85 To the Pound: 2b Ron Hunt 67 RP Seranthony Dominguez 67 |

Hamner is decent, but might not be so hot at silver. He can't field worth a damn though, so a DH role might be his best spot IMO

After an 8 game winning streak, the Terriers are leading the pack. I'm going to enjoy this screenshot because I'm not sure it'll last.
Newcomer Hal Schumacher is playing like someone promised him a jumbo-sized bone to gnaw on after the season. Newcomer Buster Posey seems like he'd rather be chasing squirrels up trees than focusing on first base. Such is life at the Dog Park. |

It's no surprise that Gabby Hartnett made the All-star team again....
It's a huge surprise that Charlie Morton threw a no-hitter!!! Go Charlie!!! Last edited by gemini615; 06-07-2019 at 05:23 PM. |

It's coming down to the wire in an extremely tight NC League. The Terriers have a good chance to make the playoffs for the first time in Silver but we still have 2 tough games against Poughkeepsie, 7 against Richview, and 4 against Washington.
I'm crossing my fingers, ordering a giant pretzel, and hoping rear-end sniffing doesn't become more important than baseball for the Terriers in the final 13 games. Last edited by gemini615; 06-08-2019 at 07:20 PM. |

The Terriers went 6-7 down the stretch and lost the division title to Poughkeepsie. Luckily we still made it into the playoffs as a wildcard team with an 89-73 record.
In the wildcard game, Charlie Morton's fantastic pitching and homeruns from Thurman Munson and Wes Parker got us past the Freeland Hobos 11-2. Next up the South Evanston EvilBagels. |

Hiram College fell to South Evanston in the Division Series 3 games to 1. Overall it was a good season, our first winning record and playoff appearance in silver. I'm not convinced that we were ready for the gold league just yet, so I'm not exactly heartbroken over the playoff loss. I blew all my points on 6 player packs, but got nothing, so no upgrades are on the way unless we score some awards or get some points for a good end of season score.

It's a brand new season for Hiram College in the silver leagues and what better way to start than have our ace Chris Sale regain his perfect 100 status. Apparently his shiny new bling gold dog collar convinced the league office to give him back the top rating. None of the other "live" Terriers moved more than a point in any direction.

The Terriers have gone 4-11 so far in July and are 45-50 on the season. Hopefully we stop getting distracted every time we see a tail or a shadow, because we're still close enough to make a run.
Sal Bando has been slumping the last 3 seasons so Granny Hamner has taken over second base for the remainder of the season. Chris Sale and Justin Turner have made the all-star team once again. Jo-Jo Moore was snubbed despite batting .313 with 11HR and 64RBIs. The league office said some nonsense about fleas and ticks. Bunch of hogwash if you ask me. |

I've mentioned this before, but I think the silver level is where the Hiram College Terriers have the most even playing field with the way the roster is currently constructed. We've been "kinda-sorta" around .500 all 4 seasons the team has been in silver. Playoffs are definitely not out of the question as long as the RNG gods pick us for any given season. But for now, I'm just going to fill water bowls, keep pulling pups from packs, and hope nobody gets frustrated enough to bite me.

Britt Burns (76) spent a handful of my initial seasons "In the Doghouse" for his horrific pitching displays. However, with the collection missions introduced today I sent him up for adoption with a 5000 price tag and he was quickly snagged to my surprise. It was the best contribution Britt ever made for the Terriers rotting on my reserve roster.
Unfortunately, the best card I pulled was a silver Mike Clevenger. Where are those historic golds and diamonds when I need them? I could use an outfielder real bad. |

27-27 is quite mediocre, however, the whole division appears to be in the same boat. So far my top dogs have shown up to play ball (Sale, Hartnett, Turner, Moore, Hamner) so hopefully the other pups follow suit and we can turn this season into something successful.

I was getting ready to pack it in for the night, but after one last check, Tanner Scott threw a 1500 point Hi Def Inning out of the bullpen. I also noticed Buster Posey has done nothing for my team and I called the warden on him. They took him away for a quick 1,000. With those points I decided to buy a couple packs for chuckles and pulled a 96 Manny Machado. While I'm not thrilled with another "live" card, he's immediately training up at first base against righties. If there's one thing the Terriers lack, it's power, and Machado has it.
Wes Parker will continue platooning at first against lefties. Milk bones for everyone if we make the playoffs! |
