Is that the new one (for use from 2010 onwards or last year's schedule)?

I'm thinking of allowing a file to be read to automatically make changes to the playoffs in the editor - I can't do it directly to the game in play as Markus still forces a save when you quit or load a new game.

I've been updating the GUI bit by bit - new version is available. Instead of just a simple one-liner for each game you get the RHE for both teams and on hovering over LineScore it pops up the line-score (as can be seen from the attached - what a galling way for the Sox to lose the World Series - up 6-0 at the stretch and losing in the 14th)

Doesn't seem to be fond of the setup with 8 teams per league making the playoffs in a 36-team major league. It worked fine when I only had 4 teams from each, but doubling it to attempt to create a setup with byes wasn't favorable.

Your utility works great, but I came across a bug, one that is not really a problem using the utility, but more cosmetic I guess you could say.

I expanded the World Series from a best of seven series to a best of nine, and then shrank it back to best of seven (to mimic history).

The utility recognizes the best of seven format by highlighting the big 7 in the upper right corner, but it displays nine games. I just edit the first seven, ignoring the last two and all works well.

Not sure if it is a bug with the utility or OOTP is still scheduling the nine games somewhere but they are"Deactivated", because they never show up in the in game schedule, only in your utility.

Did you change the World Series back to 7 games just before the World Series started? If so, the game will still have had 9 games scheduled in the file, but OOTP will just count out the number it needs - my utility just shows all the games in the file that are generated for that - should be easy to fix that.

What's the structure you've got and how do you want the playoffs to go? I'll have a go at mimicking it and give you instructions on how to do so.

Well I've since restructured the league, but it still freezes up on me and crashes when I try to delete a series and it didn't when I started.

Right now, I have two leagues of 14 teams each and the top 4 qualify in each league. I was just going to delete the 1 v 4 series giving #1 a bye and kicking #4 out of the playoffs and have 2 and 3 duke it out to play #1 for the LCS title.

But it crashes and says something about a breakpoint error or something. Like I said, when I first started using it with the 36-team setup it was fine, but I never made any alterations to the league since I didn't know what I wanted and when I decided to do it, it won't seem to work for me.

The more I think about it, the more I think it is OOTP itself that is creating the problem. I do all league changes during the off-season, and it has been reverted to the best of seven format now for a few seasons. I had it set to both the default seven game series and custom playoffs (so I could have a 3-3-1 format) and both ways still created these two ghost games.

I am hard pressed to really complain or even call it a bug as it does not impare functionality of the utility in any way, but thought I should just bring it up.

OK, I'll give that a try and see what's happening.

Yearly request :)

Hi Tony,

I was just wondering if you think you will have time this year to update the playoff utility for ootp 12? I think it's the best ootp program and will heavily factor in on my decision to purchase this year. I understand if you will be too busy but I have to make my annual pitch

thanks!

Don't know yet... Until I see what changes have been made to the database structures I can't give a definitive answer.

And maybe Markus may put in customisable playoffs at some point (can but hope!)

I think the link in the original post may be out of date.

Download Playoff Editor | Observations On The Plate (OOTP)

for the download and I'll update the initial post in a bit

I've added a quick tutorial on how to do a no-wildcard + bye in an MLB setup

Any chance this mod will survive into v12? I found this to be an absolutely must have in my book to correct the post season.

Unlikely. The effort involved in deciphering the dat files is a lot and to be brutally honest I don't have the time (nor the money to afford more time), so it'll have to wait until Markus programs it into OOTP. Written a bit about this here
