Edgardo Alfonzo: .450 (9 for 20), 1 HR, 5 RBI in last 5 games Tim Wallach: .545 (12 for 22), 2 HR, 10 RBI in last 7 games WHO SUCKS? This entire division. When I'm the only one over .500, and only by two games, your division is desperate. Notes: We had a 9 game losing streak during today's simming, and that resulted in the firing of former manager The Manager. Ever since Some Guy became the interim boss, the team has gone 6-4. The Manager lost the locker room, and now I assume he's lost somewhere in the Nevada desert. Oh well, I guess the House always wins. That said, I'm not sure we'll be hanging onto the division lead too much longer. The teams behind us are better than we are. All we've managed to do is not suck completely over the first two months of the season, but it's gonna take more than not sucking completely to win this division, and I don't have the points to invest to make general competency an option. Just have to hope that Alfonzo takes to 3rd base and the pitching can work itself out. If those two things happen, then maybe we've got a fighting chance. CURRENT COIN COUNT: 653 |

The New York Patriots - A Free To Play Project
Wow. I must have skipped the dynasty reports for way too long. Very awesome report and detail.
I really liked the report card and grade section. Also, anyone that makes me learn more about the various players gets a big thumps up!!! Thank you for all your effort.

I know I am very late to your vote about keeping your acquisitions narrowed vs. much broader.
I had to do a quick query of the teams and cards available and I think you could play this for a long time and grow to a good Perfect league team with the given cards in the game. It looks viable since there are some great High End cards or players that provide strong defense (Andruw Jones, Beltran, Ashburn, ...) plus plenty of players for the leagues along the way.

I thank you for the comments, but my goal is not to get to Perfect. I have found that people in general become more ruthless that high in the pyramid. I'm actually hoping to settle in as a consistent promotion-challenging side in silver, occasionally being able to compete well in gold before inevitably getting relegated back. I know my limitations as far as roster management and player acquisition since I'm not going to spend any money. I'll never be able to afford the 90+ rated players, plus I'm not pulling any packs on this team either, having realized that I've wasted over 10,000 points on them and gotten nothing. Those points could have gone towards a key upgrade or two, and I'm still very bitter about that. |

Okay, I've had enough of this failure. 34-36 as of this posting and clinging to a 2 game lead. Riding yet another 5 game losing streak. I'm putting out a call for help here. What do my readers do when they're in that mode of helplessness watching the team lose with no end in sight and no points to make any kind of impactful panic buy?
What can I do to keep my hopes high, other than constantly make changes that do not help at all to help my cause? Or is it time to just cut my losses, go on autopilot until next week, and hope I get relegated back to Iron where I can actually gain some points again? You're going to take a few lumps being F2P. I know you've been reading about my Terriers, as well as the Cleveland Legends, Waffletown Syrups, Westish, and Hawthorne......it just happens. It happens to all of us. We have down years out of the blue. One year you're good, the next you struggle. My advice to you is to embrace it, blog about it, and when things start clicking....enjoy it. We'll all enjoy it with you

This whole embrace failure thing is going to be hard to do. Always had a very hard time with it in other games. Usually I always have an ace up my sleeve, but not here...and that just bugs me to no end. However, I'll make the effort. The old "Win or Die" habit of mine dies very hard Guess there's nothing else I can do about it though, except mail it in and hope for a weaker league next Monday, and hope that we don't somehow win the division with 78-82 wins, then fluke a series win in the divisional round, guaranteeing promotion to Silver by complete accident Last edited by Magus978; 05-01-2019 at 10:25 PM. |

Luis Castillo: .476 (10 for 21), 2 HR, 5 RBI in last 6 games WHO SUCKS? Every-****ing-body else Notes: It is time to admit failure now that we are not leading the division. We do not deserve to be in bronze with all these losing streaks of 4+ games. I hate to talk up doom and gloom because I will never be completely accepting of failure, but that seems to be all we're doing right now. Specialists in failure. At this point I am flinging stuff at the wall hoping something sticks. What we have here, ladies and gentlemen, is a broken team. A broken team that cannot be fixed because the points are not coming fast enough to do it. With previous pack investments bringing nothing big to the table, ripping a pack or two out of desperation is completely out of the question. Therefore, the only move that can be made is no move whatsoever. All is lost for this week. At least in regular OOTP, I could make a trade or fire the manager to try and force a change of fortunes. I can't do that here. I am at the mercy of the randomizer, and all I'm doing is suffering while everyone else around me pulls high-value diamonds and perfects. This, my friends, is true eternal baseball disappointment. You are living it through me. In the coming days, I will have a re-think of my long-term strategy, and decide if I am to stay the course with NL East players, or abandon it for another theme. Regardless of what I decide to do, there will be a pretty significant sell-off at the end of the season to raise funds. The Pafko and Murphy signings just have not worked out, and I feel it's time to move on from both of them unless they decide they want to pick it up. Welcome to hell. Population, the New York Patriots. Feel my pain. Imagine steam coming out of my ears as I rack my brain to find some way to get this team back on track, knowing the process is utterly futile. After a night to sleep on it, I have narrowed things down to three options.
1. Keep the theme as is, hope for a massive slump to get into the relegation places back to Iron and maybe "git gud" at investing in proper players with the increased points flow to come next week. 2. Broaden the theme and turn the team into a full-fledged Senior Circuit squad, making all teams that have ever been in the National League eligible, thus giving me a bigger pool of players to choose from and still maintaining a theme that even a blithering idiot like me can win with. 3. Scrap the theme entirely and allow all non-LIVE and Future Legend cards to qualify. (I'd prefer not to do this one. We'll call this the nuclear option.) Now, the criteria for #2 would be interesting, because the Brewers are now in the NL and the Astros are now in the AL. I have outlined the qualifying teams. For some, the years of player qualification is also listed. No years around them indicate that all players from the franchise history are eligible for use. TEAMS ELIGIBLE UNDER THE GUIDELINES OF PROPOSAL #2 Arizona Diamondbacks Atlanta Braves Brooklyn Dodgers (1890-1957) Chicago Cubs Cincinnati Reds Colorado Rockies Florida Marlins (1993-2011) Houston Astros (1962-2012) Los Angeles Dodgers (1958-2018) Miami Marlins (2012-2018) Milwaukee Brewers (1998-2018) Montreal Expos (1969-2004) New York Giants (1900-1957) New York Mets Philadelphia Phillies Pittsburgh Pirates San Diego Padres San Francisco Giants (1958-2018) St. Louis Cardinals Washington Nationals (2005-2018) Input is allowed (and encouraged) on this matter. Keep in mind that I want to get back to looking like a competent baseball team as soon as possible. Competent being 85-90 win potential. Last edited by Magus978; 05-02-2019 at 12:40 PM. |

BRONZE LEAGUE .240 DAY 4 - THE "IT'S ALL OVER" REPORT

The other 23 guys Notes: It's almost refreshing knowing I don't have to log in until 1 AM EST each day. What's not refreshing is that we're one hot streak away from potentially getting back in the division race, and we're also 5.5 clear of one of the two relegation spots. I call this limbo, because we're not good enough to really get hot and make a run at the division, but we're also not bad enough to assure relegation, and such by staying in bronze another season, we're stunting our points output. This, my friends, is a no-win situation. A situation that I, quite frankly, have zero interest in watching play out. I personally have already checked out until Sunday, and I hope for my sake, the players do so too so that we can be relegated and play in a league that we can actually get some points in. Also, Luis Castillo got a trip to the All Star game, but nobody wants to hear about that. He didn't want to go, but the league threatened to fine us all of our points if he didn't, so he had no choice. CURRENT COIN COUNT: 1,473 Last edited by Magus978; 05-03-2019 at 01:55 AM. |

BRONZE LEAGUE .240 DAY 5 - THE PLUG & PLAY AND PRAY FOR RELEGATION REPORT

In a season that has been an absolute nightmare, there have been a few bright spots. In this post, we will highlight them.
BURLEIGH BAFFLES ASHEBORO FOR PATRIOTS FIRST NO-HITTER April 14, 2024 In an early season OurLeague clash between two relegation battlers, Burleigh Grimes made history by tossing the New York Patriots' first no-hitter. Striking out 6 and walking 3, Grimes put up zero after zero all day, with Asheboro hitters having absolutely no answers for the crafty righty. LUIS CASTILLO IS NEW YORK'S SOLE ALL-STAR Luis Castillo's been the one constant in the offense this season, and his efforts were rewarded for it with a trip to the All-Star Game. Hitting .311 with 2 HR and 42 RBI as of September 1st, Castillo has been one of the very few bright spots in the Patriots lineup, one that had a pretty significant early season overhaul with the signings of Dale Murphy & Edgardo Alfonzo which have not worked out. That's it. Yeah, it's been that bad. Hard to have highlights when there's nothing but failure going on. |

BRONZE LEAGUE .240 DAY 6 - THE WE CAN'T DO ANYTHING RIGHT REPORT
Record: 14-14 Overall Record: 74-88 Final Position: 26th in league, 8 games ahead of both relegated teams TRANSACTIONS More packs of eternal disappointment, yet my second and third teams get diamonds and perfects. WHY DO THIS TO ME, OOTP GODS? 2024 HITTING STATS C - Gary Carter (.214, 8 HR, 33 RBI) C - Randy Hundley (.264, 7 HR, 41 RBI) 1B - Mark Grace (.264, 5 HR, 30 RBI) 1B - Gregg Jefferies (.240, 6 HR, 24 RBI) 2B - Edgardo Alfonzo (.283, 16 HR, 53 RBI) 2B - Jose Reyes (.242, 7 HR, 44 RBI) 3B - Aramis Ramirez (0/4) 3B - Tim Wallach (.262, 14 HR, 50 RBI) 3B - Luis Castillo (.291, 3 HR, 45 RBI) SS - Don Kessinger (.255, 4 HR, 29 RBI) LF - Dale Murphy (.244, 23 HR, 49 RBI) LF - Enos Slaughter (.280, 5 HR, 27 RBI) CF - Aaron Rowand (.254, 13 HR, 54 RBI) RF - Timo Perez (.171, 0 HR, 7 RBI) RF - Paul Waner (.283, 10 HR, 61 RBI) RF - Brad Wilkerson (.211, 8 HR, 21 RBI) DH - Andy Pafko (.248, 38 HR, 109 RBI) 2024 PITCHING STATS SP - Rick Reed (13-13, 4.44) SP - Doug Drabek (3-12, 5.05) SP - Burleigh Grimes (12-12, 4.22) SP - Joaquin Andujar (12-11, 3.89) SP - Josh Johnson (6-7, 4.72, 1 sv) SP - Ron Darling (4-3, 5.02) SP - Burt Hooton (2-3, 3.94) SP - Livan Hernandez (1-4, 7.42) RP - Jeff Lahti (6-4, 3.05, 3 sv) RP - Greg McMichael (4-3, 3.84, 1 sv) RP - Jeff Reardon (1-2, 6.43) RP - Bruce Sutter (6-6, 6.43) RP - Terry Leach (1-2, 3.90, 1 sv) CL - Gene Garber (3-6, 2.97, 36 sv) 2B - Edgardo Alfonzo (0-0, 2.45) Italics indicate player is no longer with club Notes: Not only could we not win games consistently, we couldn't even lose them when we needed to most. As a result, we are cursed with a fate worse than early promotion. We are doomed to stay in bronze for another season, and with no points, there's no help on the horizon. This essentially means we are screwed. I am stuck with a broken team for next season, and there's literally nothing I can do about it. My bitterness only increases when I log into my other teams, use the points they get to rip packs and end up pulling great things like an 89 Hank Aaron, 90 Hunter Greene, and worst of all on my third account, 100 Jacob deGrom. None of which would have qualified under the current rules of the team, but all would have netted a good amount of points for use in the auction house. Disgusted is not the word I would use to sum up this team. No, the word I'd use to sum up the state of this team, both short-term and long-term, is very vulgar and cannot be said on these forums...so I will not use it. Just imagine me saying it though, and maybe you'll feel a tiny bit of the anger I feel. CURRENT COIN COUNT: 403 |

A TEAM HISTORY
To make sure Sunday doesn't go without a post even though we're not doing anything, I thought I would treat all of you to a statistical history of the New York Patriots franchise. Most of these categories will only involve current Patriots players, because I can't be bothered to dig up stats for players who have already left the club. THIS POST WILL BE UPDATED AFTER EACH SEASON TEAM RECORDS BY YEAR 2022 (Iron) - 89-73, 2nd in division (lost in wildcard round) 2023 (Iron) - 108-54, division champions (lost in division series) PROMOTED TO BRONZE 2024 (Bronze) - 74-88, 4th in division (the less said, the better) Total: 271-215 (.558), 0-4 in postseason BATTING AVERAGE Jose Reyes - .298 Mark Grace - .296 Paul Waner - .290 Edgardo Alfonzo - .283 Luis Castillo - .277 Aaron Rowand - .270 HOME RUNS Aaron Rowand - 55 Jeff Conine - 39 Andy Pafko - 38 Gary Carter - 37 Mark Grace - 26 Paul Waner - 25 Dale Murphy - 23 Edgardo Alfonzo - 16 Jose Reyes - 16 Luis Castillo - 15 Von Hayes - 15 Randy Hundley - 15 RUNS BATTED IN Aaron Rowand - 198 Mark Grace - 149 Luis Castillo - 138 Jeff Conine - 138 Paul Waner - 137 Jose Reyes - 127 Gary Carter - 112 Andy Pafko - 109 STOLEN BASES Jose Reyes - 82 Luis Castillo - 46 Gregg Jefferies - 21 Don Kessinger - 13 Dale Murphy - 8 Timo Perez - 7 WINS Rick Reed - 51 Doug Drabek - 23 Greg McMichael - 16 Joaquin Andujar - 14 Burleigh Grimes - 14 Bruce Sutter - 13 Terry Leach - 11 Jeff Lahti - 9 SAVES Kent Tekulve - 57 Gene Garber - 36 Terry Leach - 8 EARNED RUN AVERAGE (Minimum 25 starts or 50 relief appearances to qualify Terry Leach - 2.48 Kent Tekulve - 2.84 Jeff Lahti - 2.88 Gene Garber - 2.97 Rick Reed - 3.66 Joaquin Andujar - 3.69 Burleigh Grimes - 3.85 Greg McMichael - 4.02 Doug Drabek - 4.07 Bruce Sutter - 4.12 Jeff Reardon - 5.00 Italics indicate player is no longer with the club Last edited by Magus978; 05-06-2019 at 12:18 AM. |

A brief analysis of Bronze league .257 shows that once again we will be absolutely up against it. We just don't have the talent to compete with most of these teams, and we just don't have the points needed to invest properly. This will be yet another long season, and if anything, we are hoping that it ends in relegation. Going back down to Iron would allow us to retool and get the points needed for a rebuild.
2025 STARTING LINEUP 1. 3B - Luis Castillo 2. 2B - Edgardo Alfonzo 3. DH - Andy Pafko 4. LF - Dale Murphy 5. RF - Paul Waner 6. 1B - Mark Grace 7. CF - Aaron Rowand 8. C - Randy Hundley 9. SS - Don Kessinger PITCHING STAFF 1. Burleigh Grimes 2. Doug Drabek 3. Josh Johnson 4. Rick Reed 5. BRONZE LEAGUE .257 DAY 1 - THE RIGHT ON TARGET REPORT
Record: 12-14 Position: Last place in NC East, 21st in league, 3.5 games ahead of Queens County Reavers for the final relegation spot TRANSACTIONS There was a pack. There was also disappointment of the eternal baseball variety. HITTING STATS C - Gary Carter (.243, 2 HR, 6 RBI) C - Randy Hundley (.284, 1 HR, 5 RBI) 1B - Mark Grace (.310, 2 HR, 8 RBI) 2B - Edgardo Alfonzo (.289, 3 HR, 15 RBI) 2B - Jose Reyes (.227, 0 HR, 1 RBI) 3B - Luis Castillo (.383, 1 HR, 11 RBI) 3B - Tim Wallach (.240, 5 HR, 10 RBI) SS - Don Kessinger (.247, 0 HR, 4 RBI) LF - Dale Murphy (.267, 9 HR, 23 RBI) LF - Enos Slaughter (.273, 2 HR, 5 RBI) CF - Aaron Rowand (.241, 2 HR, 12 RBI) RF - Paul Waner (.263, 1 HR, 9 RBI) RF - Brad Wilkerson (.138, 1 HR, 5 RBI) DH - Andy Pafko (.295, 7 HR, 21 RBI) PITCHING STATS SP - Burleigh Grimes (0-3, 10.47) SP - Doug Drabek (3-1, 3.45) SP - Josh Johnson (3-1, 3.56) SP - Rick Reed (1-3, 6.19) SP - Joaquin Andujar (2-3, 2.70) RP - Terry Leach (0-0, 4.50) RP - Greg McMichael (0-0, 2.84) RP - Brue Sutter (1-0, 3.21, 1 sv) RP - Jeff Reardon (1-1, 3.46) RP - Jeff Lahti (1-0, 4.61) CL - Gene Garber (0-2, 6.75, 3 sv) WHAT'S HOT? The fried foods at the concession stand WHO REALLY SUCKS? Burleigh Grimes: 0-3, 11.07 ERA in last 4 starts (20.1 IP) Notes: As we can all see, the problem is immediately visible. We're decent enough to not suck completely, but at the same time, being decent enough will only keep us in this tier and not allow us to get any points. We need to be bad enough to finish 29th in the league. However, I am encouraged to see that Dale Murphy and Andy Pafko are pulling their weight and not falling into last season's traps. May their flirtation with above average performance continue. CURRENT COIN COUNT: 358 |

In order to liven things up and expand the player pool, I have decided to sign another executive order. This time, the order will now allow ALL National League players. This means the theme has officially changed to a Senior Circuit team.
Normal service resumes after 1 AM EST. Last edited by Magus978; 05-07-2019 at 11:06 PM. |
