Anyone else experience way too many inside the park home runs?

I swear I see one almost every game and sometimes by very slow hitters. In my mind, I just imagine they hit a dinger, but it always irritates me and breaks immersion.

I use modern day settings.

Anyone else notice this?

I play modern sims and rarely see one. Sounds like something is off in your settings.

I think this is hard-coded in to the game based on era. There is no setting/modifier for these.

I play the same - modern settings but started in 1901.

I am now up to 1932 and the Inside the park home runs are occurring far less than the first two decades and this should continually reduce to real world output. It is a shame there is no setting to control this aspect.

It could be. I dont have the patience to research the data like you did for the scouting. (kudos).

It is a long weekend here maybe I will.

I play out every game for my team in a league that began in 2017. I see probably 5-10 of them per year, which I think is too many. I believe the average for the entire league in real life is under 15 per year.

I do not see that many inside-the-park home runs but do think the percentage of slow guys who get them seems high.

I play both modern and current, and have never noticed there to be to many in current. I never kept stats to verify, just going from what I notice watching the games. I have noticed there are more, in the early 1900s and have always liked this about the games. Never did play early 1900s with current settings, but have thought about trying it. I would not be happy if many of the additional home runs that result, ended up being inside the park homers.

After seeing Tom Prince as well as Prince Fielder hit an Inside the Park home run, I have come to the conclusion that anyone can hit one, regardless of speed.

Prince Fielder could run, though. He had seven steals one season, which is a lot for a guy with his build.

I personally have seen 4 inside the park homeruns by my team in about a month of playing. I haven't changed any settings...maybe it's just an anomaly.

I finally went back and did a quick review of the stats on this.

I started in 1901 but with modern stats. Fictional players.

For stats & AI page: historical year started at 2019 and modifiers are all set to default settings.

To review the inside the park home runs (IHR). I looked at one month of play (May) every decade. And looked at the same team (Cubs) and counted all the home runs hit in the games for that month.

May 1901: TOTAL 23 HR (5 IHR) (22%)
May 1911: TOTAL 46 HR (7 IHR) (15%)
May 1921: TOTAL 61 HR (7 IHR) (12%)
May 1931: TOTAL 36 HR (0 IHR) (0%)
May 1941: TOTAL 43 HR (1 IHR (0%)

Settings are irrelevant for inside the park homeruns, it's hard coded to the year you play in, so if you play in 1901 when there were a good amount of inside the park home runs then a good amount of your homeruns will be inside the park regardless of if your using modern settings or not

I used to post an annual post asking Markus to fix Inside the Park homers. I did a search and here's one of them. Here's another longer one with quite a bit more information.

I'm not sure what ever came of that, but I think Markus used the information in those threads to do some fixes, probably the hard-coding by year.

But what would be preferable is either a simple modifier by league or (even better) by park. You'd have the usual home run park factor, but also an associated ISTP factor. In modern baseball the default ISTP factor would be something like 0.5%. In a 1905 context it might be more like 33%.

I started those threads no later than 2007... I'll have to keep that going.
