Lou Pinella has read "The Book"

Pretty cool, he puts his LHP in LF and uses a RHP to get one batter.

Good question, when Marshall came back from LF LaRussa got the umps to rule that he had to pitch to the next batter. Does anyone know the exact rule? I would have thought that since he already pitched to a batter his coming back should not matter.

Situations like this are why people should be taught to switch pitch.

That was a lot of fun to watch. I do wish that there would have been a throw home from left though.

IIRC, he did the same thing with the Mariners back in the mid-90s. I want to say it was Randy Johnson, but seems a bit odd given that Johnson was tough for all batters to hit.

What does this sentence mean in the MLB story about Piniella's craftiness?

"The Cubs pitchers are required to shag flies in the outfield so they are prepared for anything. "

On this side of the pond, shag as a verb is a synonym for making love...

Shagging flies in the US is just fielding practice for fly balls. Not the same, I'm afraid. Though I imagine they are prepared for the other bit of shagging as well.
