Thanks and thanks again, Rocco, Chris, and Mark. These ratings are superb! Here is a welterweight that I started working on because he also fought for the EBU junior middleweight title. He was the European welterweight champ, though, and will be included in the WW pack.

Johann Orsolics
Viennese welterweight. Born 1947. Fought from 1965 to 1974. Record: 42-8-3 (28).
EBU junior welterweight champion, 1967-1968. Orsolics won the title from Conny Rudhoff in June 1967 and defended it successfully against Juan Albornoz before losing to Bruno Arcari via TKO in May 1968. EBU welterweight champion, 1969-1970. Orsolics knocked out Jean Josselin in fourth in September 1969 to win title; defended it successfully against Klaus Klein and Carmelo Bossi; lost it to Ralph Charles in November 1970, when Orsolics was knocked out in twelfth. Orsolics then took three shots at the EBU junior middleweight championship, losing each time. Juan Carlos Duran decisioned him in March 1973; Jacques Kechichian tko'd him in February 1974; nine months later, Jose Manuel Duran tko'd him again. Orsolics retired after the loss. Picture to follow.

Diallo, Ouedraogo and Nel
Quote:
Appreciate the kudos. From your list, I have already rated Souleymane Diallo for my Africa group, and will post him here in a few days, along with contemporary African trialhorse Dramane Ouedraogo, who also campaigned in Europe. Will also post heavyweight Anton Nel, whose picture Chris recently put up in another string. Will try to look through the list and see if there are others I have done in connection with other projects, or could do quickly. The Africa group is getting a little more involved than I thought ... LOL!

Thanks David and all for the contributions. I'll tell you though, as I look through these various fighters, rating even just the guys who fought for an EBU title is just touching the tip of the iceburg of european fighters who accumulated decent records through their careers and who'd be great to eventually add on to the game. Jose Luis Torcida
Light Welterweight Rating 4
Spain 1964-69 34 wins / 7 losses / 4 draws / 3 KO Rating by: Rocco Del Sesto From 1964 through all of 1968, Torcida fought his entire career in homeland Spain compiling a 34-5-4 record. His biggest opponents in that time, he had his trouble with. He lost fights to Jose Legra twice, Miguel Velasquez and fought a 10 round draw with Ernesto Miranda. He lost by 9th round TKO to Antonio Ortiz in November 1966 for the Spanish Light Welterweight Title. In March 1969 he traveled outside Spain for the first time, to take on Ken Buchanan in Solihull, England. He fought Buchanan (who was 30-0-0 at the time), to a full 10 scheduled rounds. Even though Buchanan came away with the decision, Torcida still managed to earn himself a shot at the European (EBU) Light Welterweight Title, in December 1969 against Bruno Arcari in Bologna, Italy. Torcida was no match for Arcari as Bruno KO'd Torcida in the 5th round. Only the 2nd time Torcida was stopped in a fight. In ended up being Torcida's final fight. |

European add-ons
Rocco,
My fighter packs include extra fighters in addition to the EBU and Commonwealth champions and contenders. I look for the champions' and contenders' opponents and try to add as many as I can who compiled 20+ victories. Even then, as you suggest, I am only removing a few pieces of gravel from a children's playground.

Billy Todd
Welterweight Rating 3
Australia 1954-59 27 wins / 6 losses / 0 draws / 14 KO Trainer: Ern McQuillan Rating by: Rocco Del Sesto Todd was 21-2-0 and had recorded 4 straight early round knockouts when he was KO'd in the 11th round by Billy Stanley in January 1958. Interesting in that about two months later the two of them squared off in another bout for the vacant Australian Welterweight Title. This time Todd was victor in a 15 round decision. These two fights with Stanley were the first of 9 consecutive fights that would go 11 plus rounds for Todd. In July 1958 Todd successfuly defended his title in a 15 round decision over Darby Brown. After that came victories over Willie Morton, Franco Rosini and Sandy Manuel that set up Todd's fight in August 1959 against George Barnes for the Commonwealth (British Empire) Welterweight Title along with defending his Australian Title. Barnes defeated Todd in a 15 round decision. After loosing to Mick Leahy by 11th round KO two months after his loss with Barnes, Todd fought Barnes in a rematch in December 1959 for the Commonwealth and Australian Welterweight Titles. This time Barnes stopped Todd in the 6th round. That turned out to be Todd's last career fight. |

JUAN ALBORNOZ WW (1959-1974) Overall rating = 7
Hometown - Santa Cruz, Tenerife, Spain 76(20)-9-3 Albornoz entered his first title fight (Spanish Lightweight) against the vastly more experienced Fred Galiana (113-16-12). The result was a ninth round KO to Galiana. Albornoz took the Spanish lightweight belt in July of 1961 from Jose-Maria Manrique and held it until Jose Cabrera stopped him in February of 1964. Albornoz reclaimed the belt with a decision over Cabrera one month later and defended two more times before moving up in weight and claiming the vacent EBU Jr. Welterweight belt with a 15 round decision over Andro Lopopolo. His stint as an EBU champion was brief, losing the belt in Berlin on his first defence to Wily Quatuor. In three other attempts at the EBU Jr. Welterweight title, Albornoz was stopped by Johann Orsolics and Bruno Arcari and drew with Orsolics. He also won the Spanish Welterweight title and reclaimed the Spanish Lightweight belt between EBU title tries. Some of his other notable bouts included wins over Bobby Ros (4) and Giordano Campari. A draw with Kid Tano and two losses to Valerio Nunez. Albornoz retired following his failed EBU title shot against Arcari in 1969 but came out of retirement in 1973 to score three easy victories before Perico Fernandez sent him into retirement for good with a sixth round TKO in 1974.

Disregard my previous post
David;
Since we've already duplicated efforts on Diallo, disregard my previous post about which fighters I would post later. Unless someone else is working on them, I'll try to do Antoinio Guinaldo, Des Morrison and Kid Marcel.

Thanks for all the effort David. I know it has been mentioned before by Rocco and others, but there are a huge batch of good European boxers that should be rated to enhance the game. In the few ratings that I have done, I ran across 6 to 10 fighters that I thought surely must have been rated by someone only to find that they were not in the database.
We will need to keep this thread alive for quite a while after you finish the EBU title project to make a dent. Australia, North and South America seem to have been beaten to death while Europe, Africa and the Far East are sorely lacking. Looking forward to seeing David's latest and Mark's next posting at Cornerwork. Christopher

Mark,
Folledo is already in the TBCB database. If you've accidentally deleted your ratings let me know and I can post his file. As for Diallo. Post your version too, I say. The two could be compared and revised into one Super Duper Accurate guy.
