American states as nations

Several people are interested in leagues based in particular American states (in which all players are from that state) and it seems the method thats been advanced for doing this is to wipe out all the cities except those in that state. Obviously this means that that whole "world" is now limited to just that state. But what if I want to run several state leagues in the same world (perhaps with a higher-level interstate league that draws players from all of them)...wouldn't the approach here be to keep all cities, and redesignate each American state as a nation? Set each state league to 0% foreigners, and you have a Michigan league with only Michiganders, a West Virginia league with only West Virginians, etc.

Thoughts? Anybody trying anything along these lines?

Here is a brutally simple rough draft. USA deleted, and replaced by 50 states.

The adjective for state resident has not been edited, so no Texans or Alaskans yet.

the ethnic % of the US was cloned and used for each state.

Census data can be examined at:

http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/01000.html

See if this gets you started. You need to change the cities.txt file to the new nation ID, and get some flags, too.

I'm not sure on the logistics of this, but it can be done.

You would probably want each state and Canadian province (lets face it, there's a lot of folks wanting them too) in the nations file.

I don't know if you have to take out nations at their expense or not.

But you will almost certainly have to make sure that all the cities/towns for each state/province appear in their appropriate state/province. I think that can be done by the city file. Don't know, but I think it can.

Namesets -- I'm no geneologist, so I don't know how many unique ones you would want, but the game only has 39-40 (I think).

The best thing to do would be to wait for the customization manual, get a group of guys together, and put out a mod. I think it would be awesome if you could pull it off. I would definitely be interested in something like this.

Here is my 3rd Draft of US States converted into nations. I am not happy with the state of Hawaii at this time, so it is not finished.

I will see about doing a custom edit of cities.txt at some point, but not anytime soon. It's my anniversary.

What did Hawaii ever do to you? I think you ought to keep your personal feelings about a particular state out of it.

Heh.

More accurately, at this time, I cannot accurately model Hawaii to do its proud residents justice.

I modified my cities.txt file, with all the American cities corresponding to their respective states instead of America. (Based on Raidergoo's additions to nations.txt above) It wasn't very hard, just used find & replace. I'll upload it later on when I'm on the other computer.
