Issue with Rolen17 Roster

I am commish of an online league using Rolen's roster set. We changed the aging/development modifiers to 1.000 as a result of a this post.

www.gsl.allsimbaseball3.com

On the second sim (which progressed from 3 Jan to 9 Jan) I noticed some significant changes in player OVR and POT ratings.

For example:
Miguel Cabrera FLO 80/80 to 76/76
Jason Wood FLO 63/63 to 45/45
Nomar Garciaparra LAD 68/72 to 61/64
Hanley Ramirez BOS 68/76 to 57/66
Josh Bard BOS 64/64 to 42/42

Similar changes have been noted by others for other teams.

Obviously, January is the offseason and such dramatic changes across the board are somewhat unexpected. Does anyone know what is going on?

Are you using "scouts on" in this?

Half of the ratings are fairly typical (Cabrera, Garciaparra) and some are shocking (Bard, Wood). The time of year was by design, player if I recall correctly, will go up and down during off season.

Bard is so bad I am tempted to say that he was inaccurately high rated initially, suffered a drop, and that he's been inaccurately rated low on the second pass. Very weird.

the problem we're having is that all players have regressed in some degree. some not so noticeable, but you can tell they have by just looking at their overall and potential ratings.

thats to say nobody has improved.

personally as an owner im concerned for two reasons: 1) i was expecting for major ratings changes to happen in spring training and i expected gradual ratings changes to occur during the regular season, mostly reflective of their on-field results.

and 2) some of these guys with huge contracts have also regressed and id hate to think of having a guy on my team like jarrod washburn for instance who can at best be an average starter (#3 starter in my rotation) owed 9+ million per year, and then have him regress so radically and owe a below avg pitcher 36 million dollars.

perhaps 9 million wasnt so bad for an avg pitcher. so long as he gave you avg pitcher results...

i dont think the actual ratings were a concern. nobody seemed to have a problem with josh bard being initially rated so highly. its just him and everyone else's ratings dropping so fast together.

prospects should take over this league in 3 years time or less at this rate.

Crud on a stick.

Can you provide a guesstimate on the #'s of players that are 20% impacted? I'll try to sim this set on Sat to do a comparison. I can't use my own Rolen17, as I am already in the 2020's in it.

The dramatic changes have only been noticed in the one sim. Minor changes otherwise. The only change I know of at that time was that I filled all GM positions with human GMs prior to the sim - otherwise all settings were the same.

I know I had about 10 guys with blue POT numbers and after the sim had 2.

If you contact me on AIM (BranchRickeyXXXX) or my co-commish (VGCoachB), we can give you the backup file for the league immediately prior to the sim in question.

Raidergoo - So you've been using Rolen17's roster and your in the 2020's? Are prospects dominating or do you find your modifiers working over such a long period of time? What are you modifiers?
