Walkers news: Sept. 13 -- St. Louis 5, Springfield 4
Record: 57-32, 1st, 9 GA Kansas City
Down 4-1, St. Louis scored four times in the bottom of the seventh inning to steal a 5-4 win over Kansas City in the final game before the All-Star break at Busch Stadium (1997). With the victory, the River Walkers took the final two games of their series with the Prairie Fighters to split the four-game set. In the top of the seventh inning, Springfield's Andrew Noviello had led off with a single off St. Louis reliever Dan Jennings and scored on a Kyle Williams double to put his team up 4-1. But the Walkers rallied. Johan Camargo got it going with a one-out single off Fighters relief pitcher Brian Clark. A pinch-hit double from Christian Arroyo put runners at second and third, and chased Clark from the game in favor of Mark McConnell. A walk to Edmond Americaan loaded the bases for Carlos Vidal. Vidal's single scored a run and left the bases loaded. McConnell struck out Rhys Hoskins for the second out. Andrew Benintendi and Tanner Kohlhepp, however, both followed with singles plating two more runs and putting the Walkers in front 5-4. St. Louis came out of the game with a major concern as starting pitcher Argenis Batista, who came into the game 10-4, lasted just 1.2 innings before exiting with an undisclosed injury. Nick Lodolo finished the second inning and also took care of the third and fourth. He gave up a pair of runs. He was followed to the mound by Tim Hill (1.0 IP), Dan Jennings (2.0), Jake Brentz (1.0) and Edwin Diaz (1.0). Jennings (2-1) came out of it with the win. Diaz collected his 15th save. |

Walkers news: Batista to miss seven weeks with oblique strain
The St. Louis River Walkers received bad news on 24-year-old right-hander Argenis Batista who had to leave his last start after just 1.2 innings with an undisclosed injury.
It turned out Batista has an oblique strain and will miss at least seven weeks. Named to the All-Star team, although the injury prevented him from playing, Batista has gone 10-4 this season with a 2.45 ERA. As for now, rookie Hunter Barco is expected to take Batista's place in the Walkers rotation. |

Walkers news: Americaan to disabled list; Ernesto called up
The St. Louis River Walkers have placed outfielder Edmond Americaan on the 10-day disabled list after he suffered an injury while making a defensive play in a 3-1 win over Green Bay on July 17 at Busch Stadium.
The 28-year-old Americaan has had a solid season for the River Walkers, batting .285 with five homers and 22 RBIs in 76 games. Getting the callup from AAA Memphis is 24-year-old Larry Ernesto. Ernesto has batted .268 with eight homers and 42 RBIs this season in 66 games for the Redbirds. He spent a brief time with the Walkers earlier in the season, but struggled batting just .120 with a homer and an RBI in 12 games. |

Tied 1-1, St. Louis broke the game open with a six-run bottom of the third inning as the River Walkers rolled onto a 11-3 win over Green Bay at Busch Stadium (1997). Long Haulers starting pitcher Erikson Lanning helped dig his own grave to get the big outburst going for the River Walkers in the third. He hit lead-off batter Carlos Vidal and then walked Tanner Kohlhepp. After a strike out of Andrew Benintendi, Rhy Hoskins doubled to score the inning's first run. Then the bats really got rolling. Jean Carmona and Jared Thomas both drove in two runs with a double. After a pitching change from Lanning to Mike Goodkin, Larry Ernesto drove a 1-2 pitch 381 feet over the right-field fence to make it 7-1. Limiting Green Bay to two runs over the first five inings, Walkers starting pitcher Alex Faedo flexed his muscle with the bat by leading of the bottom of the sixth with a homer off Ryan Zeferjahn. A two-run homer from Andrew Benintendi off Zeferjahn in the same inning made it 10-2. Faedo (8-4) handled the first seven innings, allowing two runs on two hits. He struck out 11 and walked two. Both Haulers runs came on solo homers from Mike Trout. The final two innings belonged to Luis Palomo who despite allowing a home run to Anthony Rendon had no trouble closing out the win. |

Ozzie Albies hit a two-run homer off St. Louis starting pitcher Derek Gordon in the top of the first inning and Green Bay never trailed while posting a 5-3 win in the first game of a doubleheader at Busch Stadium (1997). Andrew Lee opened the game with a lead-off doublke and scored when Albies spanked a Gordon pitch 388 feet over the wall in right field for a 2-0 lead. It was Anthony Rendon who produced a long balk in the third off Gordon to make the Long Haulers advantage 3-0. After the River Walkers scored in the bottom of the third, Green Bay quickly got that run back in the top of the fourth. Aaron Judge reached on an error by shortstop Jean Carmona to open the stantz. A ground ball moved Judge to second, and Austin Hedges chased him home with a double. Green Bay got its lead back to three in the ninth. Chance Sisco doubled off Nick Lodolo and scored on an Andrew Lee single off Danny Grigg, as the Haulers lead grew to 5-3.
