The Blue Jays beat the Tigers 6-3 behind home runs by Pedro Soto and Rickey Henderson, but that isn’t the real story. The Postseason is coming and all of a sudden the Jays have some real injury concerns. As we await word on Spike Owen, Paul Molitor slid over to SS from 3rd and Mike Pagliarulo played 3B. Molitor made three errors and Pagliarulo made one, after making two yesterday. Now David Wells, closer, left the game holding his elbow after getting the first two batters out in the 9th. How serious are these two injuries? We wait, holding our collective breath. WP - Robinson Lopez (14-7) LP - Bob Hook (3-10) Record - 79-65

We still haven't received word about Spike Owen, but the news was very bad about David Wells. He has a bone spur in his elbow and is done for the season. He will miss the next two months.
He is placed on the 60-day DL and David West is called up from AAA. Rick Honeycutt is taking over as Closer, a role he has never taken on before in his 11 years of major league service.

Spike Owen has a fractured thumb which will shelve him for five weeks - enough to miss the postseason.
The Jays are going to have to make due with Paul Molitor at SS and Mike Pagliarulo at 3B.

Gale had a six year major league career with the Cubs and Yankees, and made the All-Star team in 1982. He was trying to make a comeback with the Blue Jays after not appearing in the majors since 1985, but he could not rise above A-ball in three years with the organization.
