Ken Rowe - Braves Spring Training Instructor

It's elsewhere been discussed that Topps seldom photographed spring training instructors. So I always find it extra cool when they do. Ken Rowe, who pitched for the Dodgers and Orioles in the early 60s and was later the O's pitching coach, was a spring instructor with the 1975 Atlanta Braves (he might have been in other years, as well, but I just happened to have the '75 spring roster handy). This image is among today's Vault releases.

Ellis Clary?

Does anyone have an image (color or B&W) of Ellis Clary, who joined the Toronto on-field coaching staff in 1989 when Cito Gaston took over as manager?

Even though he is not on Wikipedia's list of Blue Jays coaches, his various bios indicate that he was Toronto's infield coach in '89. My understanding is that he was in uniform during games.

Clary was a scout and "roving instructor." Although he may have been in uniform prior to games, from my research he was not on the Blue Jays' official MLB coaches roster. The attached image is the only Photo I have of Clary in any sort of Blue Jays garb.

The 1973-75 Brewers coach is James Robert "Jim" Walton, born in 1935. The 1969 Billings Mustangs outfielder is James Stanley "Stan" Walton, born in 1951. They are not the same person.

I only have small, B&W options for them. Ermer first, then Moore.

While there is certainly something better out there, this is all I have at the moment.

For Jim Walton, the Brewers' coach, see the following page in this thread:

For James S. Walton, see the minor league thread, where I posted a photo this evening.

Jim Lefebvre 1978

Per request. Time scratched this one up a bit but I did a little polishing. I took this image myself during the 1978 World Series when Lefebvre had his brief stint succeeding the late Jim Gilliam on the Dodger coaching staff.

Brad Kohler played ball at Pennsylvania's Easton High. After graduating in 1953, he attended an A's tryout camp and was signed as an outfielder. They farmed him out to Blackwell, OK (Class C). He sat on the bench for 10 days--never getting into a game--and was sent home. Military service followed. Upon his return, he had tryouts with the A's and Yankees. The Yankees seemed interested, but changed their minds.

Kohler became a scout for the White Sox, moved on to the Giants, and then scouted for the Pilots/Brewers. In 1974, he became one of the original scouts with the Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau. He was not a fan of ballplayers lifting weights, nor of coaches who oversold their players. He signed a number of future major leaguers, including Moose Haas, Kevin Kobel and Gary Lavelle. And he was the ONLY scout to file a report on 62nd round draft pick and future Hall of Famer Mike Piazza. His opinion was that Piazza had a long way to go to develop into a professional ballplayer, but would be worth drafting based on power alone. That report was filed two years before the Dodgers selected Piazza at the end of the '88 draft (allegedly as a favor to Tommy Lasorda).

Brad Kohler passed away in 2014 and this image accompanied his obituary.
