Preview of series with Cubs/Estrada injury update
Coming off a 2-4 road trip to New York and Miami, the Cardinals return to Busch Stadium for a four-game series with the Cubs. Like the Cardinals, Chicago has been a huge disappointment and sits in last place in the NL Central. Also, the Cardinals have learned reliever Marco Estrada has been lost for the season with a ruptured tendon in his finger.
While his numbers are not impressive, Estrada has logged some solid innings for a bullpen that has really been a big reason for this team's struggles. I will have to evaluate how I want to replace his spot in the pen. Last edited by rink23; 02-21-2018 at 03:32 AM. |

June 24: Cardinals 16, Cubs 15
Game 73: 35-38, 4th, 10.5 GB Pittsburgh
W: King 2-1, 2.08. L: Wilson 2-4, 10.26. HR: Szczur 10, Soler 18, Russell 11, Bryant 19, Edmonds 17. Player of the game: The Cubs' Anthony Rizzo was 3 for 5 with a double, two runs scored and five RBIs. The Cardinals' John Mabry was 2 for 5 with a double, three runs scored and four RBIs. Observation: One craziest, stupidest games, I have ever been involved with. The Cardinals trailed 14-5 after 7.5 innings. A Jim Edmonds pinch-hit homer as part of the bottom of the eighth help make it 14-8, before the Cubs added another run. St. Louis then scored eight in the bottom of the ninth, four of the runs were walked in. The entire Cubs bullpen was tired, but they still left Brian Wilson in even though he could not find the plate. Don't you think Aroldis Chapman could not have been used for one better to end it. Note: Matt Morris was horrible in his start, allowing four runs on three hits in just 1.1 innings. He also walked four. With a record of 3-5 and an ERA of 6.18, Dan Haren may get his number called next time it is Morris' turn to start. |

Cardinals ready to host Rangers
Coming off a four-game split at home, the Cardinals remain at home for a three-game series against the 2011 Texas Rangers. Some of the 2004 Cardinals were still around when St. Louis beat Texas in a thrilling seven-game World Series.
