'Lefty' should be left-handed

Please add a snippet of code that checks throwing status before assigning the nickname 'Lefty'.

But the player in question could be a Democrat

I write left handed, but do pretty much everything else right handed. Could be a childhood nickname given by a dad that didn't want no left handed writing son.........I of course remember none of this, but according to my sister, it caused quite the family brawl But, I was never called Lefty, so I should just stop rambling.

I think having "lefty" as a nickname for left-handers only is a bit strange. With what, at least 5 players on an average roster being lefties, you'd think the mere fact of someone being a lefty does not warrant the "lefty" nickname.
I can also imagine how righties get a nickname like lefty ironically - let's say a RH reliever misses that the call to the bullpen was for a lefty, gets up and gets called lefty for that, or a RHB struggling against LHP for a random reason, some wisecrack calls him "lefty" and it sticks.

There is a guy in my bowling league we call Lefty. He only has one arm, his right

I don't care either way if this request is implemented. I do think though there are reasons a right hander could end up with the lefty nickname so having it causes me no problems at all.

I have no problem with a "lefty" righty. I like to think of funny backstories to nicknames anyways. If it doesn't fit in your view, remove his nickname. Ultimately, you're in control of your world

Ironic nicknames are almost as fun as descriptive ones

You can always remove it from the nick_names.txt file. Or use the player editor to remove it.

Alternatively, you can remove all RHB and RHP to make sure the nickname can only apply to lefties.

Or, you can do what I do these days which is to hide game-generated nicknames (Game Settings, Players & Facegen, unclick "Show player nicknames") and enter my own by editing the first name field. An example is shown below.

Too many irrelevant nicknames in OOTPB; too much repetition of nicknames after a while; and no way to really control or prevent them once they are turned on. I like this method better, which actually looks nice in various displays:

Phil Mickelson a right-hander became a left handed golfer simply because he imitated his father as a mirror image. I think he is called "lefty" on the PGA tour. I'm a little bit ambidextrous. Can hammer nails with either hand, write with either hand including backwards; switch hit in baseball and when I played American football punted left footed but kicked field goals right footed. In soccer I only made the team because I was willing to play the left side despite being right-footed.

Indeed. Among many other things. I know a guy who was ... rather large at school who got referred to as "Slim", for example.

The whole point of nicknames is that they have a backstory... some less obvious than others.

Yes, that is why I have taken matters into my own hands as described above. Some people may prefer random nicknames and that is fine. The game should also allow the option to clear them all out if necessary and to prevent them from coming back. Manually using the nickname slot is not truly optimal in that one must endure seeing all the non-sequitur nicknames in addition to those one creates. Hence what I do now.

My dad wrote left handed. He did just about everything left handed with the exception of throwing a baseball and hitting.
