Geopolitical Changes

I did a search, but I might have missed if this was covered. It might be beyond the scope of the game, but if I create the Soviet League in 1972 and play for 20 seasons, what happens in 1992? Is the game going to list them as 'Russia' the whole time? What happens when Czechoslovakia separates? Germany reunites?

The events at the end of the 1980th beginning of the 1990th had an effect on the hockey world. OOTP is great for historical simulation of baseball and has taught me a lot, but geopolitical changes really don't need to be addressed in that sport.

I know it has been said that national teams, Olympics etc. won't be much if a feature at all in the first version, but I think if this is added in future versions this really should be addressed.

It would be a shame for the 1976 Olympic medals to be awarded like this:

Gold - Russian Federation
Silver - Czech Republic
Bronze - Slovak Republic (def Latvia 4-2 in Bronze Medal game)

We will try to incorparate an historical NHL mode, but we haven't decided yet the way of doing it. However, in the near future we will not incorparate an worldwide or european historical mode, since it would be very time-consuming, if you do it in a proper way.

First off, seeing as this is my first post on the hockey forum, thank you so much for working on this game. I look forward to buying it.

Will the European leagues and the NHL interact with each other to the extent that players from Europe can sign in the NHL and vice versa? I ask because, if you're playing in a historical NHL league, but Europe, etc doesn't have that feature, will that matter from a gameplay perspective (ie- will it alter your ability to interact with other leagues/will it lead to you being able to interact with a league that wasn't formed yet)?

At the moment I cannot give you an answer, because we haven't decided yet in what way we will incorporate the historical NHL mode. Right now, we have to concentrate on other areas of the game.

I know I am just one simple person from Russia, but my feeling is if you make a great hockey manager sim like OOTP, I wouldn't miss any historical mode if it was not present, especially in first versions.

I would

Only an NHL historical mode where the players go to the team that drafted them will be fine with me (even better if we can create the minor league affiliate for our team). I want to play again with the Nordiques

As the NHL informations are easy to find to create a database I think it's realist to imagine this mode will be here for the first release.

I'm really hoping you can find the time to allow a custom start date along with customizable goals per game as i feel it's quite important....at least for me I say leave historical rosters to the modders for the first version...i think it would take months to do something like that, even with multiple people.

Fortunately, we have both months and multiple people.

To be fair (although I'll admit that I'm not a programmer so I might be off), I think it's probably more complicated then you're making it sound. I think finding statistical information on past seasons is the easy part, but there's also the different rules, league structure, playing styles/tactics etc.

Each era is different so it would probably take a considerable amount of effort to reflect that. A superstar from the 1980s might not produce the same numbers as an identical superstar in 2012. For that matter, a superstar in 2007-08 won't put up the same numbers as an identical superstar in 2011-2012 (because, among other reasons, fewer penalties are called now compared to even just a few years ago).

So inputting accurate rosters from previous years might not be anything more than time consuming, but an authentic historical mode might be more challenging. So, as much as I do want one too, I can understand if it's not in version 1.

I ain't interested if there is no historical mode as I'm currently happy with NHL EHM 2007. No point, at least for me, in spending money for something that doesn't do more than what satisfied me 100% already.

Not that I won't understand, but I will wait for its inclusion to buy and support...

i'm just hoping we can edit future draft picks and edit current teams (e.g. phoenix - quebec, atlanta - winnipeg).

another option that would be great would to have the ability to add a new conference or a few more teams e.g. nfl has 32 teams) i would love to add two more teams or so many more and alter the conferences so they would work correctly.

This will probably not be a problem as the Nordiques will be back by next fall.

At least I hope so.

One possibility with regard to historical leagues outside the NHL is to support it but not include any in the vanilla game and leave it to modders.
