I think these OOTP updates have been corrupting my saves

I've already lost three saves to updates not being able to "read" (as I'll call it) the files.

Here's an example from a challenge game

How can it be from a prior OOTP version if it is a Challenge game? I had the same problem last year with updates corrupting my saves.

is it only the challenge mode ones? that has online interaction, so maybe something changed that's not retroactive, but nothing to do with the meat and potatoes of ootp..

Nope, so far I've lost this Challenge mode save, a regular 2017 save, and an imported OOTP 16 save. So I've lost one of all three. The thing is, only the Imported save was corrupted, neither of the regular ones were, they just pop up the message shown above.

Don't update unless something else is making your game crash.

It's a forced steam update, I don't really have a choice.

I would post this in the bug forum and upload one of your saves for them to look at to see what the issue could be.

I don't know about that advice. I don't use steam, but I'd always advise to update game (PC) whenever one is offered because sooner or later you will experience the problem/Bug.

Dozens of people on the beta team are Steam-updating with every patch or build and opening their saved games, and no one has reported any problems. So I'd echo WIUPIKE's advice above - if you're having an issue, it must be something unique to your setup.

See, I don't know about that, because it's not a corruption problem. If It was, I would say "Yea, my rig may be causing conflicts that is corrupting the world.dat files or something." But, its the game that can't read the files, or whatever a parallel to that is.

I will still post a bug to the bug forum, I just wanted to see if anyone has been having this where the game cannot read the files after the latest update.
