with the way number one seeds are going down, I predict the national champion will be in the 10 to 20 rankings not the top 10 rankings

W/the exception of the Zags, I don't think there will be a top 4 seed w/less than 5 losses. I'm not sure there will be one less than 6. And good luck seeding the tourney in the 1st place. There are so many "bad losses" for top teams & "good wins" for lesser knowns I don't see how you could make sense of it. The committees recently have done such a good job lately thanks to metrics that there have been fewer upsets. Not sure about that in 2020.

I think smaller schools are figuring out how to deal with the one and done players to their advantage.

IMO, one and done is not the culprit. It's the easier transfer rules. Teams can't build continuity and chemistry. Players no longer have to stick with it if they are not getting playing time. So name programs no longer have the depth of talent advantage they used to have with players willing to drop to mid majors if they aren't getting the early success they thought.

In the old days blue chippers were more than willing to sit on the bench at John Wooden's UCLA or Dean Smith's Carolina and learn their trade behind the veterans. Then, when the upper classmen graduated/left the program, they would be developed and ready to play instead of being thrown to the wolves as freshmen. Nowadays they all want to play right away so they can leave after one year and go to the NBA where they think they'll be the next LeBron.

Yes, it was easier to get players to sit as freshmen when the rules prohibited freshmen from playing.

This Peach Bowl isn't LSU vs Oklahoma. It's Michelin vs squirrel.

They want to play, yes. But I wouldn't say they are all seeking to get into the NBA immediately, though they wouldn't object if it happened. They just want to play. They only have 4 years of eligibility at this level, and for 90% of them it will be the last opportunity they have to play organized high level basketball. Next step is a cubicle 9-5. So if they want to get something out of it while they can, god speed.

Ghod these games take forever. This LSU - Oklahoma game, which has never been in doubt, has been going three and a half hours and they've barely started the 4th quarter.

Both semifinal games clocked in at about four hours. Tell me again how MLB games are too long...

Commercials, TV timeouts, and all the team timeouts in college basketball have made the games almost unbearable. MLB is just plain boring anymore for a number of reasons including batters going deep into the pitch count, pitching changes, no offense except home runs, reviews taking forever, etc., etc., etc..
I see MLB attendance went down by another million this year.

It may be Herbstreit has a crush on Clemson, despite his deep Buckeye roots.

He has twins who are preferred freshman walk-ons for the Tigers.
Although, I think both are considered wide receivers at this time.

Maybe he sees their future as defensive backs and wants to get on Venables good side.

He mentioned Venables' name more than any player on the field. As if he was Venables PR firm.

I once called it the Hal Mumme Syndrome. Now I call it the Mike Leach Syndrome. Keep throwing on every play even if you're down by 40. Never admit you're beaten even if you have to stretch the game to over 5 hours. Never mind that your defense is worn out and your offense just wants to go home. Never mind that the stadium is empty except for the band and the cheerleaders. The game lasts 60 minutes dammit. Play the next play.

Down 49-17 late in the 3rd and came back to win, so is worth doing

Ironically, the come back was against Leach

Leach Syndrome will occasionally have itself a success but more often a 40-17 loss becomes a 64-24 loss.

They need to start the bowl games earlier. I tried to watch the Sugar Bowl, but it was still halftime at 11:00. Not everyone can stay up to the wee hours on a weeknight.
