new players
Hi,
How do I find a list of players that made their professional baseball debut in 1997? I am assuming that they may have made their 1997 OOTP debut even if they were in the minors all year. Please, advise. Thanks, in advance!!! |

For their major league debut you can Google MLB debut 1997.
For their minor league debut, no idea. |

If you want a list of MLB debuts, you can get that pretty easily at retrosheet.org. Here's an example: https://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/1988/YC_1988.htm
For minor league debuts, in the past Spritze could've provided that. Unfortunately he is no longer with us, but I wouldn't be surprised if you could find a thread where he provided it to someone (although I doubt he provided every year). I don't know if there is now someone on the board who maintains the minor league database to the degree that they could provide that info. Baseball-reference.com makes it possible to download data into a csv file, and from there it would be possible - depending upon one's Excel, Access, or other skills - to get this info. However, I don't know how many downloads & merges it might take (probably lots!) to get a list of even one season's worth of debuts. |

if you look at the minor league .csv file in stats folder - if you filter that for debut year, you'll get what each year players began their minor league careers. you can do the same for the major league .csv files. not at my game computer, so can't look up exactly what they are called. hopefully this makes sense.
