Gilson Cravoa is by far the top FA this year - 27 years old with two MVP awards.

There aren't any big pitchers on the market - the one asking the most money is Reynaldo Rivera, 37 years old.

Team Finances

I like to keep the finances more balanced and noticed that it was starting to get out of hand. I've been keeping an eye on the market size and keeping that the same for all teams but the difference in fan interest and fan loyalty is starting to create some haves (Braves) and have nots (DBacks). This turns into a repeated cycle where the team is too bad to make money and too poor to get better. I readjusted the fan loyalty and interest values to see if that will even this out in a few years.

1927 Hall of Fame

Librado Dorado, LHP

Dorado was signed out of the Dominican Republic in 1908 and made his debut in 1913. He then was a steady MVP-caliber producer for 11 straight years, winning two Pitcher of the Year awards and going to 9 all-star games. From 1915 through 1920, he led the league in K/9 every year.

Career Stats: 2651 IP, 606 BB, 1487 K, 2.46 FIP, 77 FIP-, 65.9 WAR, 59.3 JAWS

Rick Vandervelde, RHP

Vandervelde goes into the HOF along with Dorado. He was drafted in the 14th round of 1904 out of high school and was settling in as a minor league reliever. However, in 1911, his value jumped up and he was immediately a top of the rotation starter in the major leagues. Every year but his last was spent with the Mariners, anchoring their rotation for a long time. He won one gold glove and went to two all-star games.

Career Stats: 3371 IP, 767 BB, 1682 K, 2.70 FIP, 85 FIP-, 68.5 WAR, 50.5 JAWS

Augustin Fernández, RHP

Fernandez was an international finding out of Venezuela in 1908 and had a good but compacted career. He won the Pitcher of the Year in 1922, went to 5 all-star games, and won the World Series with the Indians in 1918. He really hit his stride at the age of 24 and his career was over at the age of 35.

Career Stats: 2897.3 IP, 768 BB, 1102 K, 2.98 FIP, 91 FIP-, 50.7 WAR, 46.7 JAWS

Jody Hajek, 1B

The next two players are examples of the team not understanding how to use their team properly. Jody Hajek was the first player to 100 career home runs and retires with the most (134) in history. He finished his career with over 10,000 PA, went to an all-star game, won two silver sluggers, and was a World Series Championship. But he could not play defense to save his life - even at 1B. He averaged nearly -20 ZR at 1B every year for over a decade. This was a guy that needed to be a DH but never got put there. He was the 15th overall pick in 1906 out of high school.

Career Stats: 10930 PA, 2686 H, 134 HR, 163 SB, .333 wOBA, 110 wRC+, -292.3 ZR, -2.7 WAR, 6.4 JAWS

Lester Barlow, SS

Barlow was a long-time top prospect whose career never completely panned out. He was drafted 2nd overall out of the Oregon high school league and was the #3, #2, and #1 prospect in 1905, 1906, and 1907, respectively. The only time he put up positive value was in 1909 and 1910, where he was about average. The Cardinals continued to put him at SS, despite putting up over -20 ZR every single year. In his absolute worst fielding year (1914), he had 90 errors and a -46.4 ZR.

Career Stats: 10061 PA, 2385 H, 335 SB, .315 wOBA, 101 wRC+, -391.7 ZR, -2.8 WAR, 5.6 JAWS

1928 Hall of Fame

Nic Wiener, 2B

Wiener was drafted 1st overall in 1909 by the Cardinals and spent his entire career with them. He often had injury issues, completing only two full seasons over his career. However, he was still extremely valuable even when missing upwards of 50 games a season. He won the Rookie of the Year, 4 silver sluggers, and was voted to 8 all-star games. Of all players to play second base, he retires at the top - ahead of another former often injured Cardinal, Andrejs Silamikelis.

Career Stats: 8108 PA, 2186 H, 703 SB, .356 wOBA, 127 wRC+, 96.7 ZR, 66.1 WAR, 53.8 JAWS

Jonathan Quiroga, 2B

Quiroga spent the first half of his career playing 1B next to Wiener's 2B. He was drafted 16th overall in 1909 (not a bad draft for the Cardinals getting 2 HOF players) and won 4 gold gloves, went to 5 all-star games, and was a World Champ.

Career Stats: 9176 PA, 2407 H, .322 wOBA, 101 wRC+, 228.0 ZR, 53 WAR, 43.7 JAWS

Kendall Bradford, SS

Bradford was drafted 12th overall in 1910 out of high school and played 9 years for the Expos before moving to the Twins. He won the MVP in 1916, won 4 gold gloves, went to 4 all-star games, and was a silver slugger once. He also missed quite a lot of time with injuries in his career and in only 143 games put up the lone season of 10+ WAR in MLB history.

Career Stats: 5153 PA, 1292 H, .318 wOBA, 99 wRC+, 192 ZR, 44.3 WAR, 41.8 JAWS

J.R. Donahoe, RHP

For some odd reason, Donahoe's JAWS value is half that of his WAR. He did somehow have very little WPA even with great numbers put up for his career, which was spent entirely with the Rangers. He was mostly durable throughout his career until he turned 34 and tore the flexor tendon in his elbow. This didn't end his career but it effectively did as he only pitched 17 more games as a reliever after the injury. He was Pitcher of the Year in 1919, went to 4 all-star games, and was a World Series winner. He was drafted 2nd overall in 1914 out of Minnesota.

Career Stats: 3200 IP, 792 BB, 1147 K, 3.02 FIP, 89 FIP-, 60.4 WAR, 36.6 JAWS

Zechariah Kinsey, RHP

Despite only making one all-star team, Kinsey had quite a respectable career for the Red Sox, Royals, Twins, Blue Jays, and Reds. He was drafted in the 2nd round in 1910 out of Wichita State.

Career Stats: 3187.7 IP, 951 BB, 857 K, 3.24 FIP, 98 FIP-, 45.2 WAR, 44.9 JAWS

Joziro van der Walt went to the Blue Jays on a 7 year deal - I don't remember ever seeing a top free agent re-sign with their team once they hit the market.

It was indeed a Red Storm in the final 4 - Houston, Texas AM, Texas Tech, and St Johns all have red as their main color.
