Montreal and New Jersey resume the best of 7 series at the Prudential Center in New Jersey. Montreal leads the series 2-0. Montreal gets RW Petr Klusacek back tonight, he will line up on the 4th line with Wei and Courcy. The goalies will be G Bill Wolfenbarger and Bob Cash again.


Montreal gets the opening goal for the 3rd straight game, LW Eric Brenner gets his 1st of the playoffs converting on a C Dean Casey pass. Montreal goes up 2-0 at 8:23 when C Patrick Atkins beats G Bob Cash for his 3rd of the playoffs. The period ends with the Habs up 2-0 and getting outshot by the Devils 12-11.


C Jeff Pilbeam deflects LW Eric Brenner's shot for his 1st of the playoffs on a 5 on 3 PP for Montreal at 0:57, it is now 3-0. The Devils get on the board at 8:34 when RW Lukas Kralik's deflection beats G Bill Wolfenbarger for his 1st of the playoffs. Montreal gets the 3 goal lead back as RW Joey Mariani's wrap around gives him his 2nd of the playoffs at 13:24. The period ends with the shots 24-18 for the Devils but the Canadiens up 4-1. The Devils will start the 3rd with a 38 second 5 on 3.


The Habs kill the 5 on 3 and then go on the PP themselves shortly after. It took just 3 seconds, but Montreal scores off the draw with a RD Steven Thornton blast from the point, his 1st of the playoffs off a cleanly won draw by C Jeff Pilbeam. Montreal is up 5-1 at 2:51. New Jersey makes it 5-2 at 12:37 when RW Billy Aschim's deflection for his 1st of the playoffs beats G Wolfenbarger. Montreal gets out shot 36-27 but win and go up 3-0 in the series.


Montreal 5 New Jersey 2 (Montreal leads series 3-0)


Montreal C Dean Casey had 3 assists and is the 1st star. The 21 year old had 14 goals and 54 points with 33 PIMs and a +33 rating in 72 games this year.


Calgary Flames RD Bryan Keagan had a goal and an assist in a 2-0 win over the Oilers. The 21 year old had 10 goals and 40 points with 14 PIMs and a +21 rating in 58 games with the Flames and Canucks. Keagan won a Memorial Cup in 2001 with the Saskatoon Blades. Calgary leads the series 2-1.


Dallas Stars C Jonathan Jonsson had a goal in a 2-1 win over the Predators. The 21 year old had 6 goals and 11 points with 4 PIMs and a -6 rating in 72 games this year. Nashville leads the series 2-1.


Washington Capitals LW Colby Webster had 1 goal and an assist in a 3-0 win over the Rangers. The 36 year old had 25 goals and 46 points with 96 PIMs and a -5 rating in 72 games this year. Washington leads the series 2-1.

The Canadiens will look for the sweep of the Devils at the Prudential Center in New Jersey. Montreal is going with the same line-up including goalie Bill Wolfenbarger who has allowed just 3 goals in 3 games and is sporting a .957 SV% so far. New Jersey will go with Bob Cash in net despite his .805 SV% in 3 games.


The Devils get their first lead of the series at 7:37 when C Todd Carlson gets his 1st of the playoffs. The first period ends with the Devils leading 1-0 and the shots favour the Devils 15-7.


It was a better period of hockey for Montreal in the second, outshooting the Devils 14-8 but they still trail 1-0 to the Devils.


Montreal ties the game 1-1 when C Dean Casey gets his 4th of the playoffs at 10:21. There is no more scoring in the third period and we will be headed to sudden death overtime. The shots after 3 periods is 33-25 for the Devils.


Montreal's LD Anthony Reynolds sends LW Eric Brenner in all alone on a breakaway and he beats G Bob Cash at 6:29 of sudden death overtime to give the Canadiens the win and a 4 game sweep of the Devils. It was Brenner's 2nd goal of the playoffs. The shots in overtime were 3-2 for Montreal.


Montreal 2 New Jersey 1 (O/T) (Montreal wins series 4-0)


Montreal LW Eric Brenner was named the 1st star with his goal and assist. The 21 year old had 7 goals and 10 points with 18 PIMs and a -3 rating in 33 games for Montreal. Brenner was a Memorial Cup winner with the Red Deer Rebels. That season he had 49 goals and 99 points in 54 CHL games, he was also awarded CHL Points Leader Award and CHL Goal Scoring Award as well as the CHL MVP Award.


Edmonton Oilers C Kale Bannock had a goal and an assist in a 4-3 overtime win over the Flames. The 31 year old had 20 goals and 60 points with 14 PIMs and a +16 rating for the Oilers in 72 games. His 60 points was a career high beating his 50 points in 68 games last year with Oilers. The series is tied 2-2.


Dallas Stars RD Liam Labelle had a goal in a 3-2 win over the Predators. The 27 year old had 7 goals and 38 points with 40 PIMs and a +11 rating in 56 games for the Stars. Labelle set a career high of 44 points in 72 games for the Stars in 2000-01. The series is tied 2-2.


New York Rangers LW Radek Cigler had a goal and an assist in a 3-2 overtime win over the Capitals. The 20 year old had 6 goals and 22 points with 35 PIMs and a -9 rating in 71 games with the Golden Knights and Rangers this year. The Montreal Canadiens have announced that LW Emile Boudreau is participating in full contact drills and is considered day to day. The Canadiens leading point getter had 31 goals and 59 points with 46 PIMs and a +36 rating in 70 games.

The Canadiens will host game 1 of the best of 7 series today at the Bell Center. Montreal and Edmonton only met once during the regular season with Montreal winning the game 1-0 in Edmonton. The Oilers have made the post-season for the third time in four years, only missing the playoffs in 2002-03.


The Oilers are led by C Kale Bannock. The 31 year old had 20 goals and 60 points during the regular season which was 2nd in goals and 1st in assists. He also had 25 PP points during the regular season. Bannock also has 11 career playoff goals and 23 points in 35 playoff games.


On defense, Oilers captain Loren McMullin has been a stalward. The 30 year old had 9 goals and 33 points with 14 PIMs and a +13 rating in 72 games this year. Like Bannock, McMullin has loads of playoff experience in 4 years. McMullin has 4 goals and 12 points in 35 playoff games.


In goal, the Oilers road 30 year old Jeremy Belanger most of the season. He had a 22-12-8 record in 43 games with a 1.90 GAA and a .923 SV%. So far in the playoffs he has a 1.81 GAA and a .935 SV% in the 7 games he has played this season.

The Canadiens and Oilers will meet in game one of the best of 7 Semi-Finals at the Bell Center in Montreal. The Canadiens are excited to see LW Emile Boudreau back in the line-up tonight. Boudreau will be re-united on the 1st line with C Dean Casey and RW Joey Mariani. G Bill Wolfenbarger will start in goal.


The first period was all Montreal but they could not solve G Jeremy Belanger. Montreal out shot the Oilers 15-2 in the period but the score is 0-0.


Montreal finally does get the 1st goal of the series, RD Steven Thornton gets his 2nd of the playoffs at 17:07 on assists from RW Zach Broderick and LD Dominick Heatherington. The second period ends with Montreal up 1-0 and out shooting the Oilers 22-10.


The Oilers tie it up at 1-1 when LW Andre-Philippe Lefrancois tips in his 1st past Wolfenbarger at 1:59 of the third period. That's all the scoring in the third in a period dominated by the Oilers. We are heading off to overtime with the Habs outshooting the Oilers 26-21.


Montreal get a very early PP in overtime and put this one away. C Jeff Pilbeam gets an assist for winning the draw and LW Emile Boudreau snaps home the winner at 1:26 of overtime with his 1st of the playoffs. LD Vincent Lavoie is also awarded an assist. The shots in overtime were 2-0 for Montreal.


Montreal 2 Edmonton 1 (O/T) Montreal leads series 1-0.


RW Zach Broderick was the 1st star with his assist. The 21 year old now has 1 goal and 3 points with 2 PIMs and a +4 rating in 5 playoff games. Broderick had 7 goals in his rookie season with Montreal this year in 42 games.


New York Rangers C Jack Eklund had 3 assists in a 3-1 win over the Predators. The 22 year old has 0 goals and 6 points with 11 PIMs and a +1 rating in 7 playoff games this year. Eklund had a career high with 8 goals last year in 71 games for the Rangers. The Rangers lead the series 1-0.

The Oilers and Canadiens meet for game 2 of the best of 7 series Semi-Final in Montreal. Montreal will not make any line-up changes from game one, G Bill Wolfenbarger will get the start.


Montreal gets on the board with another PP goal. C Jeff Pilbeam wins the draw, RW Dean Casey takes the shot and LW Emile Boudreau tips it in for his 2nd of the playoffs at 14:08. The period ends with the shots 10-2 for Montreal.


The Oilers make it 1-1 at 5:44 of the second period when RW Sam Wicks beats G Wolfenbarger with his 1st of the playoffs. Montreal gets a 2-1 lead at 16:57 when LW Emile Boudreau gets his 3rd of the playoffs assisted by C Randolph Lott and RW Zach Broderick. Montreal goes up 3-1 at 19:48 of the second when C James Courcy's heavy shot gives him 3 goals in the playoffs, assisted by LW Eric Brenner. The shots after two are 19-13 for Montreal.


Montreal extends the lead to 4-1 at 14:18 when C James Courcy gets his 2nd of the night, 4th of the playoffs assisted by RD Rinat Sadriyev. Montreal does not give the Oilers a lot of chances and out shot the Oilers 31-17 for the game and the win.


Montreal 4 Edmonton 1 Montreal leads the series 2-0.

The best of 7 series moves to Rogers Place in down-town Edmonton where the Habs will attempt to take a strangle hold on the series and go up 3-0. There are no changes to the Canadiens line-up with G Bill Wolfenbarger getting his 7th start of the playoffs. The Oilers made some subtle changes to the lines but kept their #1 unit in tact.


The Oilers waste no time getting the lead on the PP, RD Loren McMullin beats G Wolfenbarger with his 1st of the playoffs at 1:35. Montreal gets that back quickly at even strength when RD Rinat Sadriyev pounces on a rebound for his 1st of the playoffs at 3:14. LW Eric Brenner and RW Petr Klusacek will get assists. The first period ends in a 1-1 tie with the shots in favour of the Oilers 12-6.


Montreal grab a 2-1 lead at 3:06 of the second period when LD Anthony Reynolds deposits a rebound off a RW Joey Mariani shot. LW Emile Boudreau collects the second assist. Montreal continues to roll in the period, LW Randolph Lott redirects C Patrick Atkins shot at 4:58 for his 2nd of the playoffs. It was a dominant period by Montreal as they lead 3-1 and outshot the Oilers 15-4 and now lead 21-16 on the shot clock.


Montreal extend the lead to 4-1 at 2:39 when C Dean Casey's shot from a bad angle beats G Jeremy Belanger. RW Joey Mariani gets an assist on Casey's 5th goal of the playoffs. That's all the Canadiens would need as the take a 3-0 lead in the series out shooting the Oilers 34-22 tonight.


Montreal 4 Edmonton 1 Montreal leads series 3-0.


Montreal RW Joey Mariani was the 1st star with his 2 assists. The 21 year old has 2 goals and 6 points with 0 PIMs and a +9 rating in 7 playoff games this year. Mariani had 18 goals and 51 points during the 2002-03 season in 72 games for Montreal.

Montreal can sweep the Oilers tonight and go 8-0 in the playoffs with a win at Rogers Place in Edmonton. The Habs will go with basically the same line-up they have used throughout the first two rounds with G Bill Wolfenbarger making his 8th straight start. He has a .957 SV% in 7 playoff games this year. The Oilers shake up the 2nd line a little and are in desperate need of some offense.


The Oilers get themselves in some trouble with a 5 on 3 SH, but Montreal piles up the shots but can't break the ice. The Oilers get a PP of their own and capitalize as RW Jamie Aylett gets his 2nd of the playoffs at 16:35. The period ends 1-0 for the Oilers despite Montreal outshooting Edmonton 16-8.


Montreal tie it up 1-1 at 5:07 on the PP when LW Emile Boudreau tips C Jeff Pilbeam's shot for his 4th of the playoffs. RD Steven Thornton got the 2nd assist on the goal. Montreal goes up 2-1 at 6:18 when LW Randolph Lott gets his 3rd of the playoffs after deflecting C Patrick Atkins shot. RW Zach Broderick got an assist as well on the goal. Montreal extends the lead to 3-1 at 13:15 when LW David Wass gets his 2nd of the playoffs with assists to C Jeff Pilbeam and RW Robert Cull. Montreal has taken the heart out of the Oilers as just seconds later C Dean Casey scores his 6th of the playoffs with assists to LW Emile Boudreau and RW Joey Mariani at 13:22. The Oilers make a goalie change. Another dominant period by Montreal with the score 4-1 and the shots now 31-11.


Montreal shuts down the Oilers in the third with a bend don't break defense. The Oilers out shot Montreal 14-9 in the third but Montreal sweeps the Oilers in 4 straight games moving on to the Stanley Cup Finals. The finals shots were 40-25 for Montreal.


Montreal 4 Edmonton 1 Montreal wins series 4-0.


Montreal LW Emile Boudreau was the 1st star with a goal and an assist. The 21 year old now has 4 goals and 6 points with 2 PIMs and a +4 rating in 4 playoff games this year. For his NHL career, Boudreau has 63 goals and 169 points in 212 NHL games.

Montreal will start at home in the best of 7 Stanley Cup Finals against the New York Rangers. Montreal was 2-1-1 with the Rangers in the 4 games they played.


The Rangers 1st line will likely consist of LW Chris Wilgosh, C Guillaume Gauthier and RW Phillip Berger. The 20 year old Wilgosh had 20 goals and 35 points in 69 games for the Rangers. In his second year in the NHL he has 3 goals and 6 points in 13 playoff games this year. The 21 year old Gauthier had 18 goals and 47 points this year in 69 games. In 9 playoff games he has 3 goals and 5 points this season. Assistant captain RW Berger is also just 21 years old. He had 13 goals and 37 points in 72 games this season. The Canadiens will open up the NHL Stanley Cup Finals at home in the friendly confines of the Bell Center against the New York Rangers. The Canadiens beat the Rangers 3-2 and 3-0 during the regular while the Rangers won 4-3 with the last meeting ending in a 2-2 tie on February 15th, 2004. Montreal will start G Bill Wolfenbarger.


The first half of the 1st period was really tight, the shots were 3-1 for Montreal. The Habs do get the 1st goal of the Stanley Cup Final, C Dean Casey gets his 7th of the year after grabbing a rebound and beats the Ranger goalie at 13:12 of the 1st period. LD Richard Nytra and RW Joey Mariani got the assists. Montreal goes up 2-0 on a shot from LW Randolph Lott that Ranger goalie Daniel Larsen would like back. Lott gets his 4th of these playoffs at 16:30 assisted by C Patrick Atkins and LD Anthony Reynolds. The period ends with the Habs leading 2-0 and leading in shots 9-6.


The second period is with out any scoring. The shots were 10-6 for Montreal and a two period total of 19-12 for the Canadiens.


Montreal C Jeff Pilbeam deposits a rebound past the Rangers goalie for his 2nd of the playoffs on the PP. RD Steven Thornton and RW Zach Broderick had the assist in the 3-0 goal at 2:09. Montreal shuts down the Rangers the rest of the way to take a 1-0 lead in the series. The final shots were 31-24 for Montreal.

Montreal looks to go up 2-0 in the Stanley Cup Finals with a win at the Bell Center. The Canadiens will stay with their current line up including G Bill Wolfenbarger getting his 10th straight start in the playoffs. The Rangers will welcome back RW Lukas Kocian, he missed game one with a mild Abdominal strain. He had 28 goals and 61 points during the regular season.


The first period ends 0-0. Montreal out shot the Rangers 16-12 including 3 from LW Eric Brenner and 3 from C Jeff Pilbeam.


The score remains 0-0 after the second period. Montreal still leads the shot totals with a 22-19 lead.

The Rangers get one late at 19:42, LD Vincent Amyot beats G Wolfenbarger for his 1st of the playoffs and the Rangers have a 3-2 lead with just 18 seconds left in the game. The Rangers hang on to beat the Canadiens and give the Habs their first playoff loss this year. The final shots were 34-32 for the Rangers.

The series shifts to New York and Madison Square Gardens with the series tied 1-1. Montreal G Bill Wolfenbarger has a miniscule 1.09 GAA and .955 SV% in 10 games during the playoffs. Prior to giving up 3 to the Rangers, in the previous 9 playoff games he game up only 2 once and the rest were 1 or he also had 2 shutouts. Montreal made a small line change for tonight. LW David Wass moved up the 2nd line while LW Randolph Lott moved down to the 3rd line.


Well the move with LW David Wass may have paid off early as he tipped in RW Zach Broderick's shot in at 16:16 of the first period for a 1-0 lead. C Patrick Atkins also assisted on the goal. The first period ends with the score 1-0 Montreal but the shots are 16-6 for the Rangers.


It is rare, but RD Steven Thornton is sent in all alone on a breakaway on a feed by C Patrick Atkins while SH and he beats G Larsen with his 3rd of the playoffs at 11:16 and Montreal are up 2-0. The Rangers get within one at 13:13 when LD Jozef Lancaric gets his 1st of the playoffs and it is now 2-1 for Montreal. The Rangers tie it up shortly after, C Tyler Mackey gets his 3rd of the playoffs at 15:27 and the score is 2-2. The period ends with the score 2-2 and the shots are all New York, 22-8.


The Rangers get the 3-2 lead at 4:56 when RW Spencer Hembling gets his 3rd of the playoffs. The Rangers extend the lead to 4-2 at 9:27 as C Guillaume Gauthier beats G Wolfenbarger down low for his 4th of the playoffs and Montreal are in a bit of hole with just 10 minutes left and down 2 goals. Seconds later the Rangers respond again, RW Spencer Hembling gets his 4th of the playoffs, 2nd of the night at 9:52 and it is now 5-2 New York. The Habs send Wolfenbarger to the showers and G Martin King comes in to clean up the mess. Montreal gets it back to 5-3 as LW Joey Mariani is sent in all alone and uses a head fake to beat the Ranger goalie at 13:57. LW David Wass gets an assist. Montreal is going to make it interesting, RW Robert Cull deflects LW Randolph Lott's shot for his 2nd of the playoffs at 17:11 and it is now 5-4 for the Rangers. RD Rinat Sadriyev gets an assist. The Rangers hold on for a 5-4 win and take a 2-1 series lead.


New York 5 Montreal 4 The Rangers lead series 2-1.


Rangers RW Spencer Hembling had 2 goals and was the 1st star. The 22 year old now has 4 goals and 5 points with 12 PIMs and a -2 rating in 13 playoff games. Hembling had a career high with 23 points during the 2002-03 season in 68 games with the Rangers and Sabres.

Montreal will try to take the series back to Montreal tied as they face the Rangers in game four of the best of seven at Madison Square Gardens. G Bill Wolfenbarger will be back in for Montreal. Montreal needs to get back to the great defensive game they had going prior to game two of this series.


Montreal opens the scoring on the PP as RW Zach Broderick is sent in on a breakaway by C Patrick Atkins and uses a head fake to beat Rangers G Daniel Larsen at 0:23 of the first period. RD Steven Thornton also gets an assist on Broderick's 2nd goal of the playoffs. Montreal goes up 2-0 at 0:48 as C James Courcy grabs a rebound to beat the Ranger goalie. Its Courcy's 5th of the playoffs assisted by LD Anthony Reynolds and LW Davis Wass. The Habs have come to play tonight. Montreal goes up 3-0 as LD Dominick Heatherington springs C Patrick Atkins in on a breakaway and he beats G Daniel Larsen for his 5th of the playoffs at 3:59. RD Rinat Sadriyev gets the other assist as Rangers G Daniel Larsen is pulled. The Rangers make it 3-1 at 5:37 while 4 on 4 as RW Lukas Kocian beats G Wolfenbarger with his 4th of the playoffs. So far the teams have combined for 4 goals in just over 5 minutes on just 6 shots. The period ends with Montreal up 3-1 and out shooting the Rangers 12-9. Rangers back up Michal Cadilek stopped all 8 shots he has faced.


The Rangers make it 3-2 and get within one as LW Chris Wilgosh gets his 6th of the playoffs at 18:32 of the second period. The second period ends with Montreal leading 3-2 and out shooting the Rangers 22-17.


The third period Montreal did a good job of minimizing any chances outshooting the Rangers 10-2. Montreal holds on for the win and sends the series back to the Bell Center tied 2-2. The final shots were 32-19 for Montreal.

The Canadiens are home to the Rangers for game 5 of the best of 7 Stanley Cup Final with the series tied 2-2. Montreal will start G Bill Wolfenbarger again, he has started all 12 Habs playoff games. The Rangers made no line-up changes as well.


The period ends with the score 0-0. Montreal out shot the Rangers 11-8. The Rangers had the only PP chance and had 3 shots.


Mid way through the 2nd period, LW Randolph Lott went to the locker room with an undisclosed injury. Montreal gets the games first goal at 13:24 when RW Zach Broderick gets his 3rd of the playoffs from the right face off dot and a 1-0 Habs lead. C Patrick Atkins gets the assist. The second period ends with the score 1-0 for Montreal and the shots are now 23-15 for Montreal.


The Rangers get the 1-1 goal at 18:00 of the third period, a PP goal. LW Chris Wilgosh gets his 7th of the playoffs. Regulation ends with the score tied 1-1. Montreal will have a short 44 second PP to start the O/T. The shots are 32-30 for Montreal.


The first O/T period settles nothing. The shots are now 40-39 for Montreal but we are still tied 1-1.


Early in the second O/T the Rangers go on the PP and make the Canadiens pay. C Guillaume Gauthier scores his 5th of the playoffs at 4:14 and the Rangers are one win away from a Stanley Cup. The final shots were 46-41 for the Rangers.

The Canadiens travel to New York to face the Rangers at Madison Square Gardens. The Habs are looking to spoil the party in New York and force a game 7 back in Montreal down 3-2 in the series. Montreal will have LW David Wass move onto the 2nd line to replace the injured LW Randolph Lott.


Montreal open up the scoring early as RD Rinat Sadriyev gets his 2nd of the playoffs on a snap shot from just out side the right face off circle at 1:22 for a 1-0 lead. RW Robert Cull and LW Eric Brenner get assists. The Rangers tie it up 1-1 as LW Francois Roy beats G Bill Wolfenbarger from a sharp angle for his 6th of the playoffs at 16:32. The first period ends with a 1-1 score and the Rangers leading the shots at 7-6.


Montreal is getting out played badly in the second period but it is Montreal that makes it 2-1 at 18:28 of the period. LW Joey Mariani's snap shot beats the Ranger goalie with an assist to C Dean Casey for his 5th of the playoffs. The Rangers get that one back before the period ends, RW Lukas Kocian's shot from the slot at 19:27 makes it 2-2. It was Kocian's 5th of the playoffs. The second period ends in a 2-2 tie and the shots heavily in favour of the Rangers, 19-9.


The Rangers grab and early lead in the third, LW Francois Roy gets his 2nd of the night and 7th of the playoffs from a sharp angle at 3:37 and its 3-2 Rangers. The Rangers go up 4-2 at 11:38 when RW Spencer Hembling knocks in a rebound for his 5th of the playoffs. The Rangers appear to put the final nail in the Canadiens coffin, at 19:36 RW Lukas Kocian puts one in the empty Habs cage for his 6th of the playoffs. The game is over, the New York Rangers out shoot the Habs 33-15 and win the Stanley Cup.


New York 5 Montreal 2 The Rangers win the series 4-2.


New York RW Lukas Kocian scores twice and adds a helper and is selected the 1st star. The 20 year old has 6 goals and 13 points with 14 PIMs and a +11 rating in 17 playoff games. In his second NHL season, Kocian had a career high 28 goals in 72 games for the Rangers this year.

The Edmonton Oilers and RW Jamie Aylett have communicated that talks on a contract extension have stalled and that he will be free to check the league for offers on July 1st. The 34 year old had 19 goals and 54 points with 23 PIMs and a +15 rating in 72 games this year for the Oilers. For 2002-03 Aylett had 17 goals and 41 points in 73 games with the Oilers and Predators.


New Jersey Devils RD Eric Moser has signed a 2 year, $12.1 M contract extension. The 34 year old had 10 goals and 45 points with 32 PIMs and a +7 rating in 72 games last year. Moser had 12 goals and 58 points in 72 games for the Devils in 2002-03.


Detroit Red Wings LW Chad Deraspe has announced that he has declined the Red Wings lastest offer and will be a RFA on July 1st. July 2004- Free Agency and Off-Season


Detroit Red Wings LW Chad Deraspe signed a 2 year $14.9 M extension today with the Red Wings. The 21 year old had 30 goals and 67 points with 82 PIMs and a +15 rating in 72 games for Detroit last year. Last year Deraspe had a career high in points exceeding the 60 he had in 2002-03 season with Detroit.


Washington Capitals have signed G Josh Willett to a 2 year, $11.8 M deal today. The 22 year old had 22 wins with a 2.25 GAA and a .915 save % in 47 games for the Capitals last season. He had a career high with 33 wins during the 2002-03 season with Washington.


The New York Rangers have traded LW Steven McVinish and LD Vincent Amyot to the St Louis Blues in exchange for C Gavril Karlin and RW Russ Franks. The 35 year old Karlin has 16 goals and 33 points with 42 PIMs and a -8 rating in 72 games with the Blues. Karlin is the current All-Time NHL scoring leader and holds the record for most goals in a season at 43.


The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed RW Jamie Aylett to 2 year, $9.3M deal. The 34 year old had 19 goals and 54 points with 23 PIMs and a +15 rating in 72 games with the Oilers last year. Last year was a career high for points for Aylett surpassing the 53 he had in the 2001-02 season with the Red Wings and Blues in 69 games.


Former Montreal Canadiens LW David Wass signed a 1 year, $4.3 M deal with the Edmonton Oilers. The 35 year old had 10 goals and 31 points with 12 PIMs and a +11 rating in 72 games last season with the Canadiens. Wass had a career high of 49 points with Montreal during the 2001-02 season.


The Montreal Canadiens have signed free agent C Dave McAleer to a 3 year, $4.2 M deal. The 21 year old had 15 goals and 50 points with 65 PIMS and a +12 rating in 54 AHL games with the Red Wings last season. He also suited for 8 NHL games with Detroit. Basically a depth signing.


The Montreal Canadiens made another depth signing in RW Bryan Clark to a 3 year, $1.7 M deal. The 22 year old had 19 goals and 29 points with 36 PIMs and a -9 rating in 48 AHL games with the Jets AHL franchise in San Antonio. Clark has played in 31 career NHL games and has 6 goals and 14 points with 6 PIMs and a +6 rating.


The New York Rangers have traded RW Phillipp Berger and C Gavril Karlin to the Nashville Predators in exchange for C Ben Williamson and a 5th round pick. The 35 year Karlin was acquired by the Rangers a few weeks ago in a trade with the Blues, Karlin is the NHL's All-time leading goal scorer. The 33 year old Williamson had 32 goals and 56 points with 16 PIMs and a +23 rating in 72 games with the Predators last year. For Williamson, he spent 4 years with the Predators prior to todays trade.


35 year old C Gavril Karlin is on the move again, this time the Nashville Predators have sent him to the Washington Capitals along with 22 year old Travis McRae in exchange for RD Dustin Millan and RD Kyle Withington. McRae was the Canadiens 34th overall pick in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft and was traded to the Predators for current Habs defenseman Dominic Heatherington.

NHL Off-Season Continues- August 2004- September 2004.


The Toronto Maple Leafs have extended G Ali Garib to a 2 year, $5.3 M deal. The 21 year old had 20 wins with a 2.16 GAA and a .921 Sv % with 8 SO's in 38 games last year for the Leafs. The 20 wins was a career high exceeding the 11 wins that Garib had in the 2002-03 season in 19 games for the Leafs.

Montreal LW Eric Brenner had 2 goals and RW Petr Klusacek had a goal as well while G Bill Wolfenbarger stopped 22 of 24 shots in the win. Newly acquired C Dave McAleer and RW Robert Cull both got into fights during the game.


The New Jersey Devils have traded RD Kim Sandberg and RW Brandon Kolesar to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for LW Cade Powell and RW Matthew St-Jean. The 28 year old Powell currently is the All-time NHL leader in assists and holds the current assists in a season record with 66. Last year Powell was limited to just 47 games due to injury and had 7 goals with 27 points and 32 PIMs with a -13 rating.


The Detroit Red Wings have extended LW Paul Brown with a 1 year, $3.6 M deal. The 21 year old had 28 goals and 53 points with 41 PIMs and a +15 rating in 72 games last year. The 28 goals were a career high for Brown, exceeding the 19 he had in 2002-03 with Detroit.

The Canadiens get a goal from RW Robert Cull and an assist from RD Etienne Daneau in the win. Cull added a scrap to his scoresheet as well while G Martin King stopped 15 of 16 shots.

The Habs get a goal from RW Joey Mariani and an assist from LW Eric Brenner while G Bill Wolfenbarger stopped 17 of 18 shots.

LD Richard Nytra had the only goal for Montreal and G Martin King stopped 29 of 31 shots in the 1st exhibition game loss.

C James Courcy had a goal and RD Etienne Daneau added another while G Bill Wolfenbarger made 18 stops in the win.

C Patrick Atkins had 2 goals and an assist while LW Eric Brenner had a goal and an assist in the tie. G Martin King made 24 saves.


The Buffalo Sabres have traded veteran RD Felix-Andre Lavoie to the St Louis Blues in exchange for a 3rd round pick. Lavoie is the NHL's current record holder with a +55 rating during the 2000-01 season with the Golden Knights.

The NHL season is about to start and the early cup favorites appear to be the Detroit Red Wings led by RD Nelson Koller who had 2 goals and 29 points in 72 games for Detroit last year. The challengers will be the Buffalo Sabres and the Calgary Flames featuring LD Glenn Best who had 12 goals and 38 points in 72 games last year for the Flames.


The darkhorse would be the Nashville Predators with RW Phillip Berger who had 13 goals and 37 points in 72 games for the Rangers last year.


Challengers for the scoring race will be Sabres RW Craig Tollison who had 34 goals and 73 points in 72 games with the Sabres last year, Bruins C Ronald Sutton who had 27 goals and 62 points in 62 games with the Bruins and possibly Blackhawks LW Issac Tokarski who was limited to just 11 points in 28 games for the Hawks.


The NHL's top blue liners are Golden Knights RD Robert Petty who had 18 points in 43 games for Vegas last year, RD Nelson Koller of the Red Wings or Stars RD Liam Labelle who had 38 points in 56 games for the Stars in 2003-04.


Among goalies, Flames Dusty Howell stands out as the leagues best with his 27 wins, 1.85 GAA and .906 Sv% in 42 games, Sabres Tony Lair who had 21 wins with a 2.72 GAA and .914 Sv% in 50 games for the Sabres or Senators netminder Candrakrti Ackerl who had 10 wins with a 2.61 GAA and a .905 Sv% in 31 games.

Lets meet the 2004-05 Montreal Canadiens.


G Martin King, the 25 year old had 15 wins, 7 SO's a 1.37 GAA and a .927 Sv% in 22 games for Montreal last year. King has been with Montreal since 2000, in 96 career NHL games he has 31 wins a 2.73 GAA with 10 SO's and a .900 Sv%. King is signed until the end of 2007. His 15 wins last year was a career high. King will be the backup again this year.


G Bill Wolfenbarger, the 38 year old had 29 wins with 8 SO's, a 1.80 GAA and a .921 Sv% in 51 games last year. Wolfenbarger has now been with the Habs 4 seasons and has 204 career NHL games. Over his career he has 89 wins with 21 SO's, a 2.32 GAA and a .918 Sv%. Last years 29 wins was a career high. Wolfenbarger was the 2003-04 NHL Goalie of the Year. He will the Habs starter this season. Wolfenbarger is in his last year of his contract.


LD Dominick Heatherington, the 21 year old 5 goals and 21 points with 28 PIMs and a +27 rating in 72 games for Montreal last year. Heatherington came to the Habs via a trade with the Predators on January 25th, 2003. In 146 NHL games, he has 13 goals and 49 points with 44 PIMs and a +28 rating. Heatherington is signed until 2007. Heatherington had a career high of 28 points during the 2002-03 season in 61 games with the Habs and Predators. Heatherington will be the Habs first pairing LD.


LD Vincent Lavoie, the 21 year old had 5 goals and 18 points with 22 PIMs and a +11 rating last year in 72 games with Montreal. Lavoie was Montreal's 122nd overall pick in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. In 186 NHL games, Lavoie has 13 goals and 46 points with 66 PIMs and a -7 rating. Lavoie is signed until 2007. RD Etienne Daneau, the 29 year old had 1 goal and 6 points with 17 PIMs and a +0 rating in 25 games last season with Montreal. Daneau has been with Montreal since 2000. In 125 career NHL games, he has 4 goals and 23 points with 41 PIMs and a -32 rating. Daneau is a UFA at the end of this season. He had a career high of 12 points in 55 games for Montreal in 2001-02. Daneau is projected to be the Habs RD on the 3rd pairing.


RD RInat Sadriyev, the 29 year old had 2 goals and 17 points with 16 PIMs and a +17 rating in 50 games for Montreal last year. Sadriyev has been with Montreal since 2000. In 189 career NHL games, he has 11 goals and 53 points with 65 PIMs and a -13 rating. Sadriyev is a UFA at the end of the season. In his 4th season with Montreal, he has 269 career NHL games, 39 goals 139 points with 173 PIMs and a +48 rating. Thornton is signed until 2007. He had a career high of 38 points during the 2000-01 season in 61 games with Montreal. Thornton was nominated for the 2004 NHL Defenseman of the Year award. He will be on the first pairing on RD.


LW Emile Boudreau, the 22 year old had 31 goals and 59 points with 46 PIMs and a +36 rating last year in 70 games for Montreal. Originally Boudreau was the Senators 3rd overall pick in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, but was traded to Montreal on January 25th, 2003. In 212 career NHL games, he has 63 goals, 169 points with 106 PIMs and a +66 rating. Boudreau is signed until 2007. Last years 59 points was a career high for Boudreau. In 2001, Boudreau won the CHL Best Defensive Forward award and was nominated for the CHL MVP award as well that season. Boudreau will be the Habs 1st line LW.


LW Eric Brenner, the 21 year old had 7 goals and 10 points with 18 PIMs and a -3 rating in 33 games for Montreal last year. Brenner was signed by Montreal on July 5th, 2003 as an undrafted Free agent. Last year was Brenners first season in the NHL. Brenner is signed until 2006. Brenner won a Memorial Cup in 2003, was the CHL's top Scorer in 2003 for both points and goals and won the CHL's MVP award. Brenner is expected to be Montreal's 2nd line LW.


LW Randolph Lott, the 32 year old had 7 goals and 25 points with 38 PIMs and a +17 rating in 72 games for Montreal. Lott was signed as a Free agent by Montreal on July 10th, 2003. In 144 career NHL games, he has 22 goals and 73 points with 98 PIMs and a +36 rating. Lott is a UFA at the end of the season. In his only other NHL season, Lott has a career high of 48 points in the 2000-01 season with the Leafs in 72 games. Lott is expected to be Montreal's 3rd line LW.


C Patrick Atkins, the 20 year old had 23 goals and 50 points with 22 PIMs and a +13 rating in 70 games for Montreal. Atkins was the Canadiens 2nd overall pick in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. Last year was Atkins rookie season in the NHL. Atkins is signed until 2006 and will become a RFA. Atkins won a Memorial Cup in 2003 and was the NHL's 2004 Rookie of the Year. Atkins will C the Canadien's 2nd line.


C Dean Casey, the 22 year old had 14 goals and 54 points with 33 PIMs and a +34 rating in 72 games for Montreal last year. Casey was the Hab's 12th overall pick in the 2001 NHL Draft. In 121 career NHL games, Casey has 23 goals and 77 points with 57 PIMs and a +26 rating. Casey is signed until 2007. Last years 54 points was a career high for Casey. Casey is projected as the Canadien's 1st line C.


C James Courcy, the 21 year old had 4 goals and 7 points with 34 PIMs and a +3 rating in 48 games for Montreal last season. Courcy was Montreal's 56th overall pick in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. In 150 NHL games, he has 12 goals and 34 points with 107 PIMs and a -33 rating. Courcy is signed until 2007. Courcy had a career high of 16 points during the 2001-02 season, in 47 games for Montreal. Courcy is expected to be the 4th line C.


C Dave McAleer, the 21 year old had 0 goals and 0 points with 2 PIMs and a +2 rating in 8 games for the Detroit Red Wings last year. McAleer was originally signed as an undrafted Free agent by Detroit on July 17th, 2001 and was signed as a UFA by Montreal on July 7th, 2004. In 14 NHL games, McAleer has not recorded a point, has 2 PIMs and a -1 rating. McAleer is signed until 2007. McAleer did have 53 points with the Red Wings AHL affiliate in 2002-03. In 2002, he won the AHL Best Defensive Forward award and he was nominated for the same award in 2003. McAleer is expected to be Montreal's 4th line LW.


C Jeff Pilbeam, the 32 year old wears a "A" on his uniform and had 16 goals and 37 points with 37 PIMs and a +9 rating in 63 games last year for Montreal. Pilbeam has been with Montreal since 2000. In 279 career games, he has 89 goals and 199 points with 172 PIMs and a +16 rating. He is signed until 2006. Pilbeam had a career high of 56 points in the 2000-01 season in 72 games for Montreal. Pilbeam will be Montreal's 3rd line C.


C Phil Wheeler, the 32 year old had 4 goals and 8 points with 12 PIMs and a -1 rating in 47 games for Montreal last year. Wheeler was acquired via a trade with the Maple Leafs on January 26th, 2001. In 264 NHL games, he has 33 goals and 84 points with 126 PIMs and a -4 rating. Wheeler is signed until 2006. Wheeler had a career high 31 points during the 2000-01 season with Montreal and Toronto. Broderick won a Memorial Cup in 2001 and 2003, he also won the CHL's Plus-Minus award in 2003. Broderick is expected to be Montreal's 2nd line RW.


RW Robert Cull, the 22 year old had 11 goals and 28 points with 105 PIMs and a +10 rating in 67 games for Montreal last year. Cull was Montreal's 100th overall pick in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. In 139 career NHL games, he has 21 goals and 47 points with 198 PIMs and a -4 rating. Cull will be a RFA at the end of this season. Cull did have 58 points with the Saskatoon Blades during the 2000-01 season in the CHL. Cull won a Memorial Cup in 2001. Cull is expected to be Montreal's 4th line RW.


RW Petr Klusacek, the 22 year old had 9 goals and 19 points with 36 PIMs and a +12 rating in 70 games for Montreal last year. Klusacek was Montreal's 126th overall pick in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. In 117 NHL games, he has 14 goals and 39 points with 59 PIMs and a -4 rating. Klusacek is a RFA at the end of this season. Klusacek had a career high 20 points in the 2002-03 season with Montreal. He is expected to be Montreal's 3rd line RW this year.


RW Joey Mariani, the 22 year old had 21 goals and 57 points with 34 PIMs and a +32 rating in 72 games last year. Mariani was acquired in a trade with the Canucks on January 25th, 2002. In 213 career NHL games, he has 47 goals and 142 points with 72 PIMs and a +48 rating. Mariani is signed until 2007. His 57 points last year bests his previous high of 51 in the 2002-03 season with Montreal. Mariani won the 2001 CHL Plus-Minus award. He will be Montreal's 1st line RW.


RW Li Wei, the 22 year old had 2 goals and 4 points with 4 PIMs and a -1 rating in 32 games last year. Wei was signed as an undrafted Free agent by Montreal on July 10th, 2002. In 104 NHL games, he has 8 goals and 29 points with 22 PIMs and a -14 rating. Wei is an RFA at the end of this season. Wei had 25 points in 72 games for Montreal during the 2002-03 season to set a career high. Wei is expected to play a platoon role on the 4th line this season.
