Yes you can except in cases where the players 1st name is initials, Like AJ Pierzynski, AJ Burnett etc. BB ref drops the 2nd initial. But if you still use both it still imports them.

Do you want 100% accuracy and have everyone import correctly the first time or 95% and then wonder why that person didn't import??
It's ok if you know what your doing, but if your new to ootp, it's best to do it the right way to avoid problems IMHO.

The importer is an Open Office spreadsheet file. You would need to install Open Office in order to use it. If you're not that familiar with spreadsheets, or installing software, then you may not want to use this. The version of Open Office I use is here:
Download Apache OpenOffice from SourceForge.net
You only need to install the Calc portion. You don't need the rest of the stuff.
Latest version 4.1.1 is here:
https://www.openoffice.org/download/
It's free and all I use.

Hello BigRod,
Could you elaborate on the debut columns and use of ID's and such? I am trying to get some control over imports in Spritze's DB (or the OOTP one or others) that start around 1855. I would like to not have do each individually, so I am thinking of other alternatives to doing that.
Any information that you think may be pertinent would be appreciated.
Thank you.
JP

Dubut columns are the year that the actual player first appeared in the MLB. This would be the earliest yr. or if the player has multiple years, it can be any year your want in between those years.
Lahman IDs are what ootp uses to find the player(s) to import and it always uses the Lahman type id. In Spritze's db, he creates the lahman id if it's not already in ootp's master and you have to use his lahman ids.
If you're creating your own master, that lahman id can be anything as long as it's unique to that player.
Note: the ootp and lahman id column headers are reversed. So ootp ids are in the lahman column and lahman ids are in the ootp column. I've no clue why it's like that.
Team ids are used to assign a player to the correct team according to year.
As of ootp16, your can import a player directly to any team in your saved game. Be it fictional or real. Just add the team id found on the edit structure page or from the exported rosters.txt file to the end of your import. If the team is already in the db, ootp will auto find it and place the player on the correct team.
Not sure if any of this info is what your looking for or not so just ask if it isn't.
I'm wicked busy currently, so if I don't respond quickly..PM me and refer to your post..thanks.

Works the same as the other and instructions are in the column header's comments (Cells with comments will have a tiny red box in the upper right corner).
Spritze's db uses middle initials for some players, just as ootp does for some of them.
You need to use:
Frank E. Thomas for Frank Thomas of the White Sox.
There's a problem with the 2nd row's formulas...that's why Jack doesn't show anything: I've fixed that problem and edited the comment for the Enter Player Column to Warn about middle initials..just redownload it from the first post.
Thanks a ton for catching that...surprised no one else did.

7/13/15: Updated the importer for Spritze's DB. Row 2 had the formulas messed up. Also edited the comment for the "Enter Player's Name Column" to reflect the fact that some players need their middle initials.
Example: Frank Thomas of the White Sox needs to be Frank E Thomas to import him correctly.
Thanks to The Game for catching this.
Link in first post is auto updated..please redownload.
Thanks

Okay, I have Open Office now and have imported the Historical Importer for Spritze. Now how do I build the league I am trying to make (All HOF, ROY, Cy Young, Gold Glove, MVP, etc) into one league and have them start as rookies? Does It matter what year I start my league? Do I put them in a new database from HI3?

Did you ever figure this out?

Pardon the possibly dumb question, but having been away from OOTP for 10 years, can this mod help import league history? I am hitting a wall trying to find a way to import OOTP6 historical data into OOTP2007 as I try to convert a particular league all the way to OOTP16. From league history (champs, award winners, etc.) to individual histories, I was looking for a way to do it.
