I don't know what (if any) effect this might have, but I noticed that some of the teams "real" city is wrong on the team setup screens. One of them was Tucson and the other was something in Tennesse or something like that.

I only discovered this because I edited one of the teams to be the Tigers and I just happened to pick one that was incorrect. It's strange how the game catches this at times but other times it doesn't.

attendence and ticket prices

In The Baseball Encyclopedia the total 1871 attendence was 266,500 for the NA with 127 games played. That averages to ~2100 a game. It doesn't give full details on other seasons, but interpreting what is written 1872 237,000 with 183 games, 1873 200,000 and 199 games. All it says for 1874 is that the NA broke the attendence record 1871 in 232 games. No total attendence for 1875 but, St. Louis set a rececord with 78,000. Franchise fee was $10.

When the NL started in 1876 there were no games scheduled on Sunday and only Chicago had a ticket price of $0.50 double the old rate. The AA allowed games on Sunday and ticket price of $0.25 and NL didn't adopt Sunday games until 1892 season and ticket prices were still $0.25. It is also mentioned that when the AA folded player salaries dropped.

NL attendence past 1,000,000 in 1883, 390 games, 1895 and 1896 2,900,000 and 799, 792 games respectively. After that there is no more mention of attendence numbers or ticket prices.

In 1911 the Philadelphia(AL) infield earned a total of $100,000. 1914 The Baltimore(FL) sold Babe Ruth to Boston(AL) for $25,000 after Philadelphia(AL) said they couldn't afford him. 1915 Walter Johnson signed a 5 year $80,000 contract, Joe Tinker 3 year $58,500.

The AA drew 10,000,000 in its 10 year existence.

The problem i still have is that i havent found where to delet all Free agents at once or where to put the 1871 rookie player dat file so the in the future when i create a fictional league with historical players it would start with 1871 rookies intead of fictional like we were able to do in 6.5.I dont want any leftover history in the record books.

So the best solution for me at this time was to create a 1871 league in ootp 6.5. Making sure i draft in 6.5 or it wont import the players. I then convert to 2006 and make sure i have hold draft checked. I then am able to draft the players. If i dont pick hold draft i will have players already on the teams but they will not have their history like when they were drafted.

I know the ratings may be different but as long as it just effects these players. But if the change in ratings were to effect players too much, i dont know if it would make much sense to even being able to convert a league from 6.5 to 2006

I used a small number of teams and a March 01 draft date. Set the player creator to .01 and released all of them prior to the draft. That seems to work in 1871 just fine.

Baseball Man: I still haven't found a mass delete option to rival the mass mass release button. If it is there, someone may still trip over it sooner or later.

Great info Bogieman - thanks.

Hold the presses. RMY is correct - still can't get 1871 players in 1871 without the workarounds.

That said though, we are about 100 steps beyond where we were a few days ago.

Thanks jnshmoo, forgot those on this QS. I'm going to do another after I've had chance to play with the patch and experiment a little with the pitcher stuff I mentioned in another thread, so I'll do the cities correctly for that QS (and will get hosted at All Sim baseball).

The game should load with a draft ready to go on 1st March. The day after that, you need to reschedule the draft. 31st December 1871 is my suggestion, as I've tested it and it works.

On ticket prices:

As somebody just pointed out, the NL required its teams to charge a minimum of 50 cents a ticket. This was done in a deliberate effort to keep poorer fans out of the stadiums. The American Association, a rival major league that lasted from 1882 until 1891 (when it merged into the NL) charged 25 cents per ticket. In fact, the ticket price issue was one of the two big issues that caused the founders of the AA to launch their revolt against the National League. (The other was the NL's refusal to allow teams to sell beer at the ballpark).

An injuries file (and Excel tool to generate injuries files) available here. Works very nicely with historical sims, generating a nice variety of niggling and DTD injuries over the course of careers. I may incorporate into a new 1871 Quickstart.

Dont know if anyone has tried this but i think this would work.
Basically change the 1871 historical league into a 1903 historical league
and then copy the players and teams
to a 1871 fictional league

Take all the players that debuted in 1871 and all their batting, pitching etc
and make a new database of just those players. Be sure to copy all the 1871 teams but delete one team so teams will be even when you import. Just put the players from the deleted team onto another team. Change the debut years to 1903. Make sure to adjust the years of a player's career stats from 1903. Import the league as 1903 historical league using ratings based on rest of career. Be sure to selct hold draft
Make a copy of the player.dat, team.dat and park.dat if you want the 1903 parks. Then create a fictional league that starts in 1871. Be sure to select hold draft.
Then replace the player, team, park files with the files from the 1903 historical league. You may have to change b-days before creating the historical league or after creating the fictional league.

Hi im sorry, im new to this historical simulation.....when it comes to importating the rookies from 1871 to 1901, is there any thing you have to change with the league to make it work ie.....the league structure, the team names, adding teams stuff like that? cause im reading all these posts about how you start in 1871 with the draft, then you simulate to the end of the year to Dec 31st to import the 1872 rookies....then what? do you turn off the draft and the use the arod database for the rookies? cause ive read that if you don't change the team names or add the right teams, it wont let you sim on......sorry if this has been explained before but i want to be sure on how to do it before i start one of my own

To get rookies on the right teams automatically from 1871 would require a lot of work, yes. The basic thing is the team Lahman ID needs changing - there are a lot of players who will attempt to import to teams which only existed for1, 2, 3 years... I don't know about other people, but I generally don't attempt to get the exact history from 1871-1900, so I let rookies be drafted. It's much easier from 1901, as there are just 2 team ID changes needed (a few more nicknames) in 1902 and 1903, all the way through to the 50s.

Plus im not sure if you can have an odd number of teams in a league
which would mean you would have to assign the players on one team to the rest of the teams in the database for those years.

After a couple of weeks of fits and starts I agree with you RMY. I do try to make sure certain players (Al Spalding, Cap Anson, John Clarkson, etc.) end up with their "historical" team. But, overall your quickstart allows us to do agreat deal easily if not "exact". Thanks for all your work, really enjoying it.

Odd. IIRC, 112 players made their debut in 1871.

After the 1871 draft,in your setup, there are a total of 366 players in the league. My question is, is there a way to transfer that player pool, into a custom,16 team league with 162 game schedule, with modern day settings,as i want to get everything on a even ,modern day status from 1871-2005 . is this posible?
