More on Bordley - interesting stuff -

[from Wikipedia]
In 1988, he joined the United States Secret Service. He spent 5½ years on former President Bill Clinton's detail.Mr. Bordley was compelled to testify through the Office of Independent Counsel headed by Ken Starr in the matter concerning the President and White House intern Monica Lewinsky. He served as the Resident Attaché Agent in charge for the Secret Service in Russia. Shortly after the World Series in 2011, Major League Baseball named Bordley its chief of security, officially Vice President of Security and Facility Management.

You got it right. From the LA Times, October 9, 1988, "Bill Bordley's Secret Life" Bill Bordley's Secret Life - latimes.

"In '83 I went to spring training with Atlanta. Mike Marshall and Greg Brock (of the Dodgers) hit homers off me. That was my sayonara."

Thanks Merkle!!

Prentice (Pidge) Browne 1962

Surprise first baseman on the opening day roster of the 1962 Houston Colt 45s, after twelve years in the farm systems of the Cardinals, Cubs, and Pirates. Mets actually held a day for him at the Polo Grounds, featuring dignitaries from his hometown of Peekskill, NY, which actually still had a minor league team when he broke in, in 1949!

riday's Topps uploads: 501-502 Mike Brecht (SF system); 503-504 Harry Brecheen; 505-506 Jim Breazeale; 507-508 Ted Brazell (Tigers system); 509-510 Jim Braxton (Cleveland system); 511-512 Darrell Brandon; 513-514 Ron Brand; 515-516 Roy Branch; 517-520 Tom Bradley; 521-522 Scott Breeden (Reds system); 523-524 Hal Breeden; 525-526 Pidge Browne; 527-530 Gates Brown; 531-532 Tom D. Brown (1978); 533-534 Steve Brown; 535-536 Oscar Brown; 537-538 Ollie Brown; 539-540 Danny Breeden.

Hopefully the rest of this run will end up with a Pete Broberg with the Cubs, and a Tom Bruno with the Cards.....

Hi,

The "Steve Brown" that's listed as an Angels player...I was curious, I have a Steve Brown listed in my 1983 Angels roster as a right handed starting pitcher. Is this one yet another Steve Brown with the Angels?

Thanks,

BRobby05

It's the same guy. Two pictures of him appeared in the JC folder also, check the face (JC 596, 507). Yes, I know that in one of these latest shots he is throwing like a lefty, but if you look closely you can also tell that he is also wearing a jersey which belongs to another player. He's clowning for the camera. Despite being photographed a bunch of times he did not make a Topps card.

Steve Brown

He is neither "clowning" for the camera nor wearing another player's uniform. These are intriguing but unnecessarily complicated answers when the easy one is usually correct: the negative has been screened backwards.

The first letter on the name above his uniform is a reversed "N." This is an image of a player throwing righthanded that has simply been digitized in haste and not caught because the Angels' "A" logo is nearly symmetrical.

Hi,

The question is finally cleared up. I was about ready to question the jersey number, but I then stopped and took a look in my 1984 Baseball Dope Book and they had Steve Brown as being #36 not #38 as per Baseball Reference Dot Com. That's what threw me off. The fella on there doesn't make very many mistakes but here is one of the very few. I have to get ahold of him.

We need to be very thankful for having Merk on here to answer questions and direct...he's REALLY on the ball!!!

If you are talking about Folder KC, 513-514 are Astros catcher Ron Brand. 511-512 are Darrell "Bucky" Brandon with the Phillies.

My question to you is why were you unable to see that yourself?

Not sure what you are looking for, but Brandon's previous Vault appearances went like this:
Phillies: AZ 325-329, CC 998, EF 731-732, HE 456-459, 463; JC 557-558
Twins: CC 997
Red Sox: CC 999; DD 001-002; EF 733 (no logo); 734-736

The new stuff isn't in a zip file. It's here:

Index of /images/13076

WinZip is what I use for the zip files. Very affordable and I'm cheap.

Just a simple goof on my part, no problem. I keep forgetting that reverses can and do happen.
