MY LIFE IN 1950
Huge story in the pages of the New Orleans Times-Picayune newspaper... a few days ago Communist China invaded South Korea, an ally of the United States, prompting our government to start preparations to defend South Korea. Here a quick glimpse of the very beginning of the Korean War from The Times-Picayune... it's the Sunday, July 2nd edition... boy, I wish I had access to The North Island View... would be nice to see how they see the world of 1950. Monday, July 3, 1950 JACKS STILL UP ON COYOTES BY A GAME The top two clubs in the North Island Recreational League Second Division were victorious this past weekend... first place Jackson went on a hitting spree and stomped West Chester 16-6... second place Dutton has to go extra innings to subdue the basement-dwelling Theodore Bobcats 4-3... and Joliet just barely got by Kinston 3-2. MY LIFE IN 1950
July 3, 1950 Greetings, Guys and Gals... let's do a quick check of the music world in 1950... "The Third Man Theme" by Anton Karas is still the top pop tune in the whole wide USA... Hank Williams still has the number one country song with "Why Don't You Love Me (Like You Used to Do... so I can't update them yet with the new number ones. So you know what I'm gonna do... EC is gonna expand your musical experience and give you a taste of jazz. I never was a fan of jazz... never did like they way they would play around with the melody... jazz musicians love to improvise and get fancy with the melody... that's when they would lose yours truly. Louis Armstrong, "Old Satchmo", was a musical great, famed for creating jazz... improvisation was created by him, I think. Here's one of the few jazz songs I have in my 7100-song library... it's a catchy little ditty called "C'est si bon"... I think that's French for "it's so good"... and it is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1D4sEZzWKo Last edited by Eugene Church; 05-31-2019 at 10:12 PM. |

TOP TWO TEAMS TANGLE IN NIRL 2ND DIVISION
There's a real treat on the North Island Recreational League Second Division slate this Sunday... number one Jackson is at home hosting number two Dutton at Jackson Park... the Jackalopes (13-5) have a scant one-game margin over the Coyotes (12-6)… the two teams have played three times so far this season... Dutton was victorious twice, 6-1 and 5-3, behind Aaron Buchanan and Jackson gained a split with a 2-0 victory behind Jalen McCoy... but the Coyotes will be missing one of their key players, ace pitcher Aaron Buchanan. McCoy (11-3/2.36) will take the hill this Sunday afternoon, while Buchanan will have to take a long rest... he will be out for a year with an arm injury... Dutton will send new roster addition, Nick Walters (0-0/3.00), to the mound.. it will be his second start this season... last weekend Walters worked nine innings in a 4-3 extra-inning win over Theodore... he did not get the decision. YANKS, HACKERS CLASH IN NIRL 1ST DIVISION There is also a good one in the North Island Recreational League First Division... first place New Yerby (11-6) is at home at New Yerby High School Stadium, going up against third place Union Heights (10-8)… the Yanks are streaking along with wins in their last six games... John Metz (8-4/2.21) will draw the assignment for the Yankees, while Morgan Powell (8-4/2.12) will start for the Hackers... Union Heights has prevailed twice this season... winning 3-2 and 6-2... and falling 9-3. Last edited by Eugene Church; 06-01-2019 at 01:41 PM. |

Monday, July 9, 1950 YANKS STILL ON TOP, WIN 6TH STRAIGHT The New Yerby Yankees are doing it the right way to stay on top of the North Island First Divsion... just win all of your games and nobody can catch you... good philosophy if you can pull it off... lately, the Yanks have live up to that with six straight wins... in NIRL action yesterday, their lastest victim was third place Union Heights, who were trounced 13-4... runner-up Kofa had a tough time with sixth place Avalon, but they rallied in 10 innings for a 6-2 triumph... and fifth place Stockdale put a stop to its six-game skid by defeating the fourth place Wafford Eagles 5-3.
